The crown is back, he got tired of carrying it around and besides, this was supposed to be a festive occasion. Everyone had to dress the part. Except no one else got the message and there Kelson was in his court attire. Giving a smiling nod to Ivar, that chair contraption was new, lucky him. He spied his plate, the food alone giving away their rank disparities. No matter. This was a feast where there was no heads of state and no commoners.

"Ivar, it looks like you've fared quite well," Kelson gestured at his new contraption, smiling and in good humor as he quite likes the viking a lot. There's something in the sarcastic, mocking humor that reminds him a bit of his foster brother. "It's a feast, I thought I should show the proper respect for the occasion. As for service, I don't fear service to honorable lords. Our captives honor has yet to be ascertained I would think, however. " He wasn't entirely sure if this food was a thank you or a bribe.

"Tell me, do your kings and others of noble houses not serve others growing up?"

"Who should a king serve but his gods, huh?" Ivar shrugs. To him it seems simple: ideas like stately obligation enter far less into the whole mess. "Jarls might serve some king. But they might not." Viking society tends to be a touch... disorganized. Commonly their nobles were simply free men who clawed their way to the top through cunning or sheer strength, with gold won in terrible raids far more often than gold passed down from fathers to sons, who might be violently unseated at any time same as they'd done to the jarl or king before them. As Ivar's father had done twice, conveniently. As had been done to his mother when his father was gone. As he would do to his mother's murderer, gleefully, and soon.

But Kelson, he thinks, rules by more... Christian means. Call it a hunch.

"So what will you do if they do make you serve? These dishonorable captors." The way he speaks the last word sounds just as amused as the way he'd spoken the words your majesty earlier. Like he's entertained by Kelson's stubborn refusal to acknowledge any gods but his own still, even after a month here in their bizarre, otherworldly realm. "Rebel?"

"Where I'm from, we all serve our elders, at least growing up. That's how we learn who we are meant to be, and certain skills. I have a young king staying with me until he reaches his majority. In my court, he serves as page, or when he gets a little older, squire to my uncle, as well as to me. He may be a king, but he still needs to learn, and serving as a page or a squire is one of honor, even for a king. As for his god or mine, that is in each of our hands."

Kelson does tend to rule by more christian means. That being said, that young king is currently also a hostage in his court to prevent against attacks, and to keep that young king from accidentally falling off his horse and dying like his brother did. He may be a christian, but he isn't stupid.

"I intend to have a talk with them." It was always best to talk first. Especially when the other player held all the pieces.

Ivar laughs, delighted by the idea of little Christian kings-in-the-making scrambling after some warrior like servants and calling it an honor. No, that's certainly not how they do things where he is from. He can't imagine any of his brothers sweating through an honest day's work in their lives, aside from Bjorn, who grew up on a farm before their father had seized any power. And Bjorn only barely counts as a brother anyway. "We do not do anything like that. Apprenticeships are not wasted on any who aren't going to use the skill later." Coming from such a resource-poor place, Vikings tend towards artless practicality often. Including in their style of rule.

In any case, he can almost appreciate the kind of pointless optimism that comes with Kelson's stubborn diplomacy here. Almost.

"Oh, well," he tips his stein of mead jauntily in the king's direction before bringing it to his mouth. "I hope you will let me know how that goes." He doesn't sound terribly confident in Kelson's chances of talking down any god, even such silly ones as these here.

Kelson took a bit of his peacock, he was going to miss this when it was gone. At the very least there should be deer in this world. Alas, these beings that captured them seemed to have a very limited sense of what was acceptable food wise. Probably considering they didn't eat the way humans did. Or Deryni.

"Oh I would say that the education pages and squires get is quite useful, no matter their status. But perhaps that is where our kingdoms differ. Tell me about yours?" Kelson smiles, knowing that Ivar is finding humor in Gwynedd's customs but, well, it wasn't that hurtful and there was so little to laugh at here. Best save being offended for something that really mattered.

"Of course, I will let you know. Honestly, I'm still deciding between Hope and Fear."

"Just Hope or Fear? Why those two?" He has heard that they were the first, Hope and Fear, the only two that hadn't needed to be revived or summoned, but not much more than that. It was so difficult to find people here who knew the stories of these gods, which seemed crazy to Ivar: how could one be expected to worship gods that they knew nothing about?

Not that he had any plans to start doing so, truly, or with any fervor. They were not his gods, though he does not scoff at them now like he had when he first came.

In either case, he'd have chosen Rage if he was going to try and cut a deal with any of them. But perhaps that speaks more to his own personal issues than anything else. (It does.) "And what do you want to know, huh? You will need to be more specific." But he doesn't sound necessarily opposed to talking Kelson's ear off about his future kingdom...

"I've heard they're the leaders. Or are in charge of aspects that affect our day to day life. Hope supplies the food. And I've heard rumors Fear supplies the monsters. And may know about the portal we came through. As far as I know, the others don't give back to us in the same way that Hope and Fear do."

Kelson gave Ivar a smile. "Besides, it helps to go straight to the top when you want answers." He was a king, he was used to it. He didn't want to get stuck trying to gather information from Tranquility, who may or may not know anything. It would come as a surprise to Kelson to find that Ivar favored Rage. Just went to show how little he really knew him.

" I do have questions about the Portal, which makes sense to talk to Fear. However, if he really is in charge and knows how to manipulate it, going directly to him may give away our hand. If I wanted to know more about the architecture of this city, Hope may be the right being to go to, I'm unsure. But..."

Kelson smiled at his friend, thinking about what he wanted Ivar to tell him about his home. "What makes your home special Ivar? What sets it apart from the other places in your world? And what is your place in it?"
