What: The event log for the A Hope for the Future event
Where: All over the city!
When: April 15th-April 19th
Warnings: Stealth Rock

It's finally time to reap the rewards you've earned from all that hard work collecting and returning the Hope orbs! Be careful walking the streets during the small earthquakes, but feel free to admire the scenery as your beautiful city reassembles its way back into its former glory.

There are new houses where the destroyed buildings once were, and they're perfect for a single person or pair of lovebirds. In addition, you'll find that the electricity to these new houses, and all other homes and shops in the city is restored. The food is better, the monsters are gone- hey, this city might be livable again!

To cap it all off, we've got a feast waiting for you on the 19th! Come one, come all, and enjoy all of your favorite foods, drinks, and party games. It's been awhile since we've all gotten together to celebrate something good, so get your party on and toss all your troubles away!

[yeah, she's wondering if she should try to get the recipe since they'd be a hit at the bakery]

Yeah, thanks. I mean it. [to Laura, they taste like the easy days of her tenth summer, secure in the love of her parents and the time spent with Jupiter, her cat] I don't think so, either. I'm Laura. Laura Palmer. What's your name?

Serah Farron. ( Warmth comes easily to her, too, especially when the city seems so relaxed and so much cleaner than she's ever seen it. ) How long have you been here?

Serah Farron. Pretty name. [yes, this is much nicer than the city usually is, though Laura has a soft spot for new arrivals' day at the Speakeasy] Me? Gee, it's hard to tell. Six months, I think? How 'bout you?

( She should probably go to the Speakeasy parties, meet some more people. But that's for another day. For now, Serah is quite happy to simply chat with people and eat some good food. ) Hmm...

( She hasn't kept track either. ) I guess it's been a few months now.

[she should. the parties are fun. of course, helping the parties be fun is now part of Laura's job now.

it's easy to lose track of time here] Lucky you, coming in right before the gods got their stuff together. I was here during the Null invasion.

( The invasion has been spoken about, the Null too. It's not the most pleasant thing to think about, but it's a necessary part of Hadriel's history. Part of her, the part that loves history and travels through time trying to correct the future, wants to ask more, but it's a party. And she's not the girl who travels through time. She's just another girl stuck in this strange city. )

Yeah. I guess I'm pretty lucky.

[it wasn't the most pleasant thing to experience, even holed up in Delight's temple. the aftermath when Hope was drained, food was scarce, and electricity and running water weren't working was pretty bad. and it seems that a lot of people leave their pasts behind in Hadriel]

Nothing wrong with that. I'd like to be lucky.

( The aftermath was all Serah experienced, and after moving to Pulse, that was all familiar territory. Less food, worse temperatures and no military to help them build the city anew, but it wasn't really all that different. )

Well, maybe you will be. Luck changes.

( She was lucky to come here in the aftermath, but that's a small stroke of luck compared to everything back home. A rare thing indeed. )

[and all Laura knows other than here is Twin Peaks. the illusion of perfection and of plenty, all hiding the darkest of secrets]

Me? Not likely. I think I was born under a bad star.

[if this place is lucky, she wouldn't want to see Serah's home world]

( Home is... complicated. And falling apart. And she can only hope that she can get back there soon. )

I think we make our own luck. Our own destinies, you know?

( She has to believe that, or she'd never make it through trying to correct the timeline. )

[that sounds unpleasant. at least Laura doesn't have to worry about Twin Peaks going to pieces without her (or so she thinks)]

I wish I could feel the same.

[and she does. if she made her own destiny, there never would have been a BOB in the first place. and she would't have died]

( By now, Serah's stopped eating. This conversation has taken a slightly philosophical turn, and the young woman glances at Laura, brows drawn in as though trying to figure out what to say. )

It's hard to change the way you think, isn't it?

( Serah believes in her own destiny, her own luck, but she also knows that there are thoughts of hers which she can't switch off, either. )

[Laura just takes it in stride. she knows she can sound mysterious (or morose) when it comes to herself, but she just doesn't feel comfortable enough sharing her past with others yet]

Extremely hard. I've been here over six months and I'm just now getting used to it.

[Laura also has thoughts she can't switch off. she wishes she could, though]

( Even Serah, as open as she can be, has things in her past that are just too hard to address. She won't push, especially not in this setting. )

I hope it gets better for you.

( The words might be cliche, but the sincerity that radiates off them is as warm as either of the city's suns. She genuinely does hope that Laura can shake off the thought of being born under a bad star. )
