Event Log: A Hope for the Future

Who: All characters participating in the event
What: The event log for the A Hope for the Future event
Where: All over the city!
When: April 15th-April 19th
Warnings: Stealth Rock

It's finally time to reap the rewards you've earned from all that hard work collecting and returning the Hope orbs! Be careful walking the streets during the small earthquakes, but feel free to admire the scenery as your beautiful city reassembles its way back into its former glory.

There are new houses where the destroyed buildings once were, and they're perfect for a single person or pair of lovebirds. In addition, you'll find that the electricity to these new houses, and all other homes and shops in the city is restored. The food is better, the monsters are gone- hey, this city might be livable again!

To cap it all off, we've got a feast waiting for you on the 19th! Come one, come all, and enjoy all of your favorite foods, drinks, and party games. It's been awhile since we've all gotten together to celebrate something good, so get your party on and toss all your troubles away!

Kelson wouldn't recognize a single food item that was on her plate, but his eyes never even made it over there. He took in the peakhole opening from her neck to her breasts with a small sigh of appreciation and then down her legs to the heels she wore. My that was a very, very short skirt. He felt a little scandalized for her, or would have if he had any blood left in his brain at all. He couldn't stop looking at her, feeling that delicious tightening in his groin, eyeing the sweet curve of her breasts to the rather nice lines of her calves.

Sorry Laura, you've rendered him rather incapable of speech at the moment. Come pick his jaw up off the floor.

[...huh. she's gotten this reaction before--gotten it more times than she lets herself think about most days--but she wasn't expecting it from him. oddly, that makes her feel kind of bad for provoking it and wishing she'd picked something a little longer. but she's weaponized her sexuality for so long, it never even occurred to her that it could have its drawbacks.

she gives him a friendly smile and plops down in the chair next to his. act normal, Laura, you can do this]

What's that you've got there? [she points to his plate. food is a nice, neutral subject, right?]

[Kelson swallowed and tried to refocus himself, taking a moment to center, going through the exercises as if he was going to do trance work and tried to gain some semblance of control over his body. And resisted the urge to adjust himself.]

It's peacock. Would you like to try some?

[Had that managed to come out okay? Had it managed to come out at all?]

[she can tell that he's trying to get a hold on himself. which is good. more than most men she's encountered could say. most men would be plotting ways to get into her panties by now. after all those years of settling, she's a little tired of "most men"]

[Kelson wasn't a saint. But after almost two failed marriages he was still whirling from, well, he'd convinced himself he needed love, even if he'd never really loved any of them in the first place. He didn't know what it was, but he tried. And Kelson was a little shy, not to mention scared witless of screwing up the succession with royal bastards because he couldn't keep his pants on.

He offered the plate to her, taking a couple slices and sliding them onto her plate.]

It's quite good.

[Having recovered enough to get blood to his brain, he looked at her plate]

And what's that?

[Because he didn't recognize a single thing.]

[everybody needs love. unfortunately, that doesn't mean that you're going to get it. Laura got something close with Bobby Briggs, but she messed that up the way she always does. every other man (and woman) just wanted to fuck the Homecoming Queen. she's tired of that. she doesn't need to be that Laura in this place. granted, she's still in the process of deciding what kind of Laura she wants to be]

I'll have to try it. I've never heard of eating peacocks before.

[she takes a couple of bites, chews, and swallows] That's really good! [she gives him a teasing smile] Food fit for a king.

[she eyes her own plate]

That? Oh, it's fried chicken, french fries, cole slaw, and an ear of corn. [she points to each of them as she names them. And they've got strawberry shortcake for dessert. One of the fake gods must really like me.

[No, Kelson always knew he would marry for state and not love, but it didn't make him not want it any less. Especially after having two unfortunate brides. His luck with women was pretty terrible. Kelson would understand where she was coming from, homecoming queen, king. Everyone wanted a piece of the action. It was often too bad that 'action' was a human being. He was so sick of it.]

Quite.

[He smiled humorously at her, and then blankly as she named the foods, not meaning a thing.] Well I'm glad you're enjoying them at least.

[she'd hate the idea of marrying for state. and hate the idea of it for him, too, even though she'd get that it was necessary. she'd just hope for his sake that love would eventually grow there. and in her time here, she's grown sick of the idea of her old life in Twin Peaks. it didn't make her happy, it didn't keep BOB away, it didn't save her life. it was just one mindless sexual encounter after another with drugs to take the pain away]

I am. Would you like to try some? Here. [she takes the fried chicken breast and cuts a slice of it off, offering it to him]

[He hoped too, that if he couldn't marry for love, he could at least marry for friendship, and hope that something would eventually form between them. Although he held out hope that the woman he did love would change mind and renounce her religious vows. He wished that Laura had the option of a better life at her home, that she wasn't plagued by others desires of what she was and what she might be, and saddened that those who should have been there to try and protect her weren't or that they had failed so miserably. Maybe here she would find some peace.]

[Kelson took a bite of a piece, savoring the taste. It was different than anything he'd tasted before.] Which one was that? Fried chicken?

[marrying for friendship would sound like a much better idea to her. after all, passion fades, but friendship is a lot more stable, at least in her experience. and with that, she'd viciously stamp down on her feelings for Donna because Donna deserved better. and here's been better. here, no one expected her to be the sexy siren she was in Twin Peaks. at first, it was confusing and even a little insulting that no one wanted to sleep with her, but now she finds that she doesn't mind so much]

No problem.

Yeah, that was friend chicken. Not bad, huh? Would you like to try the cole slaw next? It's cabbage, which you've probably had before, but it's got this dressing on it that's just terrific.

Cabbage you say?

[Kelson nodded, familiar with cabbage, although he was more used to having it during Lent or when he was visiting a monastery during a long trip. He had never quite seen it looking like that however.]

I am familiar with cabbage,yes.

Yup, cabbage. Two kinds, plus some carrots.

[this is Sarah Palmer's recipe, only brought out on special occasions. it's the good stuff]

Then, have some! [she offers her plate to him]

[Carrots and cabbage were more food items found in the lower classes or those sworn to the religious life, but not wishing to offend, he took some and tried it. Yup. It tasted like Lent.]

Very nice.

[then Lent where he comes from must be delicious. she's used to soggy fried fish for Lent, yuck]

Isn't it? It's weird how they got my mom's recipe right, but for once I'm not gonna question it.

[Kelson has had more than his share of fish, but, he was also trapped in an underground cavern for a month with nothing but fish. And he is a king, his food is usually delicious.]

It doesn't concern you that they're most likely able to read our minds?

[Laura shifts a little in her chair][like BOB] But there's not much I can do about it.

[And Kelson, but he wasn't going to offer that fact.]

That's a good attitude to have.

[He honestly wished more people in his kingdom had that attitude. But they were more likely to scream and become very nervous.]

[definitely for the best]

Well, I try. Some of the things I've been through. . . they put things into perspective.

[screaming and becoming nervous doesn't help anyone]

[Kelson offered his joint to her, thinking he better be on his best if Caedra did show up. And considering he wasn't sure how that would affect his Deryni abilities, caution was the best, right?]

Yes, they do don't they.

[he didn't pry. If she wanted to talk, she would.]

[she takes it without protest. and Caedra showing up. . . yuck]

Perfect 20/20 hindsight, that's me.

[someday, she'll feel comfortable enough to discuss BOB and her past with others. she feels closer than she has at any point in her life. but she's not quite ready yet]
