"I don't eat whatever those are."

Well, she's pretty sure, anyway.

And you know what? Seeing your killer try wasabi for the first time is really satisfying.

"It's an acquired taste." Undead or alive, that's still true. "Do I want to know what those wormy things are, or am I better off sticking with 'slugs'?"

"Mm, hold on." She pinches the bridge of her nose, eyes watering a little, but recovers finally with a sigh of relief, pleased to have discovered yet another food that fights back.

"They're soul larvae. When a mortal dies, their soul gets turned into one of these if they didn't serve one of the gods in life. These ones are dead though, unfortunately, they're better alive. But they're delicious! Really, I'll trade, those dumplings look tasty," she says with a broad smile. "I can't imagine you're really on a diet anyway, your crazy rage frenzy thing must burn a lot of energy."

Wink. She isn't fully sure what that transformation was, of course, but it was very, very interesting.

The snack that fights back: wasabi dip.

That... sounds fake. But then again, so did zombies until Rita saw one for the first time. Maybe people do have souls. Except her dad. He's an asshole.

With her back against a metaphorical wall here regarding her zombiedom, Rita almost panics (a true rarity) and says the first thing that comes to mind when Caedra insists on trading food. Then she mentions the Romero rage, and Rita finds an out.

"No, sorry." She doesn't sound sorry, and she doesn't look it as she dips another dumpling in wasabi. "These are specially made to keep me ready to rage out at any time. I guess you could call it my survival instinct, enhanced."

That said, she pops the dumpling in her mouth and makes a show of savoring it. Sweet, sweet brains. Thanks, Hope.

There are a lot of emotions barely touching that woman's face, that's for certain, but it seems to resolve quickly. Well, everyone has their secrets after all. Caedra isn't quite sure how much she believes the explanation to be the full one, but - it's enticing, if true, and she eyes the dumplings with renewed interest. Raw physical strength, something that Rita absolutely displayed in spades during their earlier encounter, is exciting.

"Well! Then I can see why you want them to yourself. I've seen warriors experience intense rampages like that plenty of times, you know. Charging forward, tearing limb from limb, it must be such a rush for you."

She says it like she thirsts for it - and she does. The blood and violence she imagines in the moment strikes that deepest of chords within her. If she hadn't been shown that taste of what the gods could do to her, this whole feast would have been a charred heap of bodies and gore, she's quite certain. She can picture it well.

Maybe she's just part of some secret order of modern-day berserkers, okay. She's not, but she could be.

"Oh, it is." Let's be real, she definitely dreams of killing her dad the way he left her to die. It's not what Rita wants most -- that would be luxury and pleasure -- but it's up there. "I feel invincible."

The fear only kicks in after the fact.

"I'm glad I got to see it," Caedra replies, then laughs. "Even if was directed at me! You're so strong. How many have you killed?"

She can't resist asking the question. Honestly, where she's from, it's a very normal conversation starter, though you can never expect anyone to answer honestly. Still, it makes for some entertaining stories sometimes.

Rita shrugs. "Depends on who you ask." Is she guilty for what that one teenager did when she offered him thousands for that flash drive? Is their blood on her hands? What about everyone her father had killed while she was his assistant? What about everyone who died in the Max Rager rageouts? At the Lake Washington massacre? At the Super Max launch party?

Her conscience is clear, but Liv and friends might ascribe all those death to her anyway.

"I have to say I'm impressed you took me down at all."

She wasn't lucid for their fight, so she doesn't recall the details. Zombies aren't exactly hard to kill if you know how to do it, so the fact that Caedra managed it says that the tiny woman with the sword is not someone to be messed with.
abyssalarcana: (I saw there a great abyss)

[personal profile] abyssalarcana 2018-04-21 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm asking you," she says. "You put up a good fight. I've been trained by the best and I've had lots of time to practice my skills, but I could definitely tell you're able to hold your own in a fair match. So, how many? No need to be modest."

Caedra wouldn't consider their encounter a fair fight. Rita is strong, but without spellcasting it's just too hard to evenly match Caedra's abilities. Still, Rita does probably have endurance going for her since the casting is pretty draining and she can only do so much of it.

Not that it matters too much either way, but sizing people up and evaluating their strengths and weaknesses is just good practice. You never now who will turn on you next.

If an untrained zombie in her first rageout could withstand a little scuffle with a seasoned fighter like Caedra, then training is something Rita may need to invest time in. Could come in handy if she gets back home. Kill her dad, come out of it alive and ready to inherit. Not a bad deal.

As for her kill count? She considers that for a second.

"One." The Romero that killed Dr. Lockett and made Rita what she is. She'd killed it as a human, with only a stiletto for a weapon. Pretty badass, in retrospect. "I'm very picky." Not untrue. "I was going for my second when I woke up here."

Rude. Killing Vaughn would've been deeply satisfying.

"I'll get the guy if I ever go back home."
abyssalarcana: (even now you mark my steps)

[personal profile] abyssalarcana 2018-04-24 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"Only one?" That's a surprise, and a little disappointing. She frowns. "You're not one of those who always tries to knock people out instead, are you? 'Let the law handle the punishment' or whatever it is they say," she continues, wrinkling her nose. People like that tend either to be cowards, afraid to do their own work, afraid to live up to the consequences of picking a fight; or they tend to think themselves too high and lofty, as if they're some chosen arbiters of justice.

And actually the ones who are chosen arbiters of justice bother her the most.

"Well, I hope you get him."

The element of surprise is a good one to have, to be fair.

"I try to make people do what I want through other means." Secrets, lies, and threats, mostly. "I like tp use my energy wisely. And, really? The law? You can't trust the law to do what has to be done."

If she only did what's legal, she'd never have any fun. And anyway, her dad's the real culprit, and she's rich because of that.

"Oh, I will. I always get what I want." She doesn't need the vote of confidence, but knowing the woman who killed her is rooting for her is kind of nice, weirdly enough.

[personal profile] abyssalarcana 2018-04-26 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Aha, tactics she is familiar with even if she doesn't typically employ them herself. And not too much of a surprise coming from someone presumably mortal, even if she's one with augmented combat abilities. She still has to watch out for her own head, after all.

"Whatever gets the job done, right? It just seems like a shame to let that power of yours go unused. But - I suppose your second kill won't see it coming." Ah, and that confidence. She appreciates that in people, even if instinct also makes her want to crush it utterly, to show these creatures how worthless they ultimately are.

[personal profile] unheeled 2018-04-30 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Rita shrugs. No need for more details than that on rageoits or zombie virus in general. She does have one thing she feels a burning need to say.

"I want him to see it coming. I want him to know he's going to die horribly, just like he deserves."

Revenge is kind of a family trait, just like the casual way she says that.
abyssalarcana: (black beads do glitter)

[personal profile] abyssalarcana 2018-04-30 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sounds like a vendetta. What did he do?"

See, the thought hadn't necessarily occurred to Caedra that this is a personal sort of murder. Hers so rarely are - or when they are personal, they're the immediate reaction to some flippant insult from a creature that doesn't know its place. But now she leans in a little, curious. What has the berzerker so riled up that she wants someone dead, but waited to kill him so that his death would be so perfect?

[personal profile] unheeled 2018-04-30 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Look, not everyone can be a short stabby magic lady with all-black eyes, okay. Some people are young and not very well versed in murder.

"He left me to die. Smiled at me as he let the door close on me." It's a memory that still makes her angry, and probably will until she gets back at him. "I don't take betrayal lightly."

He taught her that, is what makes it so ironic.

"You can't run a business well if you just forgive that kind of behavior.
abyssalarcana: (so he can boil the disobedient)

[personal profile] abyssalarcana 2018-05-01 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"No - especially not that harsh a betrayal!" Though it seems she survived it, one way or another. Or perhaps she's like Charles and came here after death. Talk about a miserable afterlife.

"And what sort of business do you run?"

[personal profile] unheeled 2018-05-04 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh there's so much more to her dad's betrayal, but that's going to be left for another day.

Just like the answer to Caedra's question.

"What, and completely exhaust every topic for polite conversation so soon?" Rita shakes her head. "I'm gonna get a drink, maybe mingle a little. I'm sure we'll meet up again."

Hopefully without anymore murder.

An excuse if ever Caedra has heard one - who only has a handful of topics they can talk about? Not her, certainly, who has been told sometimes that she is too 'full of words', as Amamot had teased.

But Caedra shrugs. "Go on, then," she says. "You'll just owe me a story."
