( If only Rage was that basic when it comes to ideas. No, the event Kate's referring to - in far too casual a tone, suggesting that she know about it more from infamy than actual experience - was far less pleasant. )

Made all the meat human.

( And turned people into angry mythical monsters with that simple switch but that's far too unpleasant for the feast. So, with all the subtlety and tact of a sledgehammer, Kate changes the topic with a glance at Noctis' expression at that bite of food. )

... what's that?

[ Made all the meat human. Noctis glances surreptitiously over at the inviting pile of roast meats and bacon, unable to keep a disgusted look from flickering over his features. No, not the roast meats and bacon -- he kind of still wants to eat them. ]

How did you even find out they were human?

[ Did all these people here accidentally eat human meat? He's seen a lot of things, but this is definitely the line in the sand. He's glancing down at the pastry she's asking about, then has the grace to be mildly embarrassed. ]

It's just a pastry from way back. Didn't think I'd see it here again. Wanna try one?

( At least here she's reasonably sure Rage hasn't been poking at the meat, so for once, Kate is relaxed about what she shoves into her mouth. After months of bland, Hopeless food, it's hard to resist anything that looks appealing.

She shrugs at his question. It's been so long since Emily told her the story, but it still lingers in her mind. Possessions aren't hard to forget.
)

Think there were a monster what possessed anyone who'd ate it.

( But her eyes trail back to the pastry instead. So far, all she's ate has been savoury, mostly a whole load of oysters and cheese, so- )

Sure.

( Why not? )

[ Oooookay. That information is horrifying. Noctis can't even begin to wrap his mind around it -- that must have messed lots of people up, and gods know the far-reaching extent of that kind of damage. ]

Here.

... Thanks.

( There's a pause whenever Kate says thank you, as though she's reminding herself to say it instead of letting a favour hang unacknowledged. Years of thinking that the obvious doesn't need pointing out and that any information is too much information, is a sign of weakness, is hard to break.

Taking a bite and swallowing before she speaks, taking a moment to gauge the taste of it.
)

That... is sweet.

( It's not bad, despite the tone of voice. It's just... sweet. )

Couldn't eat a lot of them.
