That's the point of childish insults and mockery. They get results. He smiles again when she sets her utensils down -- nice, he's made her think of attacking.

And no, he can't be targeted as she wishes. "Elves and evil fays" cannot, not in his world and apparently not in hers. Their spirits are too strong to be so trapped. And it would certainly not be easy to remove Curufin's head, much less keep it for a trophy!

The temptation to keep pushing her is almost overwhelming, but he pauses to answer her question, for it is very pertinent to the situation.

"The sewing shop lady has a name -- she is not just demon fodder. She is Lady Margaery Tyrell, and she is dear to me and to my family. We regard her as we would a sister. Yes, she's resurrected, but why do you speak of death as a minor inconvenience? Did you find it so, yourself?"

Because he's fairly sure his brothers slew Caedra when they found her.

"It's not the first time in my life I've been killed, and it likely won't be the last. It's always just a minor inconvenience. Some risks are worth taking."

First time dying here maybe, but they found what she already knew - her cocky aggression stems at least in part from the knowledge that she cannot permanently be killed unless her killers make her meet her end in the Abyss. Here, her body was destroyed, and dissolved entirely only to reform soon after at Rage's temple. Therefore there is no danger in death. She had welcomed the experience, in fact, in the hope that possibly she would be sent back there, as would normally happen when killed in a material plane. Instead, she finds herself still here. Being locked in a prison with these mortal creatures brings her less joy than she had initially expected.

"If you often treat others as you did Margaery, then I'm certain that death is not a new experience for you. Ho hum, people hunting me down with torches and pitchforks, just another boring Friday night! Tell me, why was this particular risk worth taking? What made it worthwhile?" This isn't just a rhetorical question. He genuinely wants to know.

No such luck, people are not often sent home after experiencing death in Hadriel. And being locked in all together is a trial for most Hadrielites -- they are always confronted by experiences that do not bring them joy.

This idiot creature comes and insults her and then expects her to explain herself? What reason could he possibly think she has to just tell him - why give him any sort of understanding at all?

"There will be a day when it becomes very clear to you," she says unhelpfully. It's the one promise she feels certain she can keep though - the certainty of fate rests behind it. And fate isn't even something she believes in normally, because nobody's lives are chained in a way where those chains can't be broken somehow, but based on all she has seen, there is nothing in the multiverse that will stop the Abyss forever. Every one of her kind the gods and their servants kill or bind, every inch of ground they take, just delays their eventual end and draws out their agony.

This idiot demon kills his friend and then expects him not to ask questions? Nope, doesn't work that way.

"Oh, I am looking forward to that day. But on that day, perhaps you will find that your own fate is not what you expect it to be." He smiles pleasantly.

He actually can't tell whether she's speaking of a future personal confrontation with him and his family, or whether she's referring to a universal event. Curufin's people also predict a Last Battle and an end of the universe, when the Void will swallow up all that exists. But in their cosmology, the Void is not intrinsically evil, only the Beginning and the End of everything. And Curufin, having always had a considerable attraction to Chaos, would enter that battle with fury and enthusiasm -- a last chance to stomp his enemies.

"I don't expect anything for myself. My own future could change at any moment - that's not what matters," she says, narrowing her eyes, but keeping her voice calm and even. "Nothing that happens here matters either. People come back from death. You weren't even killed, to my knowledge, yet you're so eager for revenge. I understand that anger, don't get me wrong, but it won't serve you any purpose here."

Stubborn elf. She will bide her time, wait for some catastrophe to distract or injure him or his companions. She will wait for the gods' power to waver, and then she will flay them one by one and hang them from the spires that tower over the city. Wouldn't that make for a delightful scene?

"What does matter, then, if not your own fate?" he asks, also maintaining a calm face and voice. For despite his anger, he is always one who wants to know why things are the way they are, and he will put aside other ends momentarily or sometimes permanently, to follow that curiosity.

"I beg to differ with you, though. What happens here matters very much, even if people can come back from death. Most here are mortals, who experience their own dissolution as an incomparable horror. Coming back out of that oblivion is not much better; it is also a traumatic experience, except for the reunion with their loved ones. I do not want anyone I care for subjected to that. They do not have a large enough perspective to weather it well, even if you and I do. And it is true that your Vrocks did not succeed in killing me; instead, they themselves died. But I am not angry on my own account, rather on Margaery's. And on the account of anyone else you might choose to target in the future."

Oh yes, he's stubborn. They have that in common. But she may bide her time as she will, it will not avail her.

The creature talks too much for one she wants nothing to do with. In fact, her desire to kill him even evaporates - his ability to drive her up the wall reminds her of Charles, who, having died at her hands, now seems to insist on coming back to annoy her. She lets out a sigh and deliberately collects up her coffee cup, refills it, then stirs cream into it, taking her time without replying for a good few moments.

"I owe you nothing. I look forward to the day these false gods are destroyed. I will hang you by an ankle and gut you like a rabbit."

That announced, she turns to take her leave, hoping to find better company.

Curufin learned how to drive people up the wall by practicing on his brothers while he was growing up. They were a tough audience! He had to be persistent and dedicated.

While Caedra pours herself another cup of coffee, he lifts his glass and takes another gulp of the fiery whiskey. When she speaks, he grins.

"If that's your idea of a hot date, then maybe you'd better advertise online." And he lifts his glass in a derisive toast.

His laughter will follow her across the grass as she departs.
