Event Log: A Hope for the Future

What: The event log for the A Hope for the Future event
Where: All over the city!
When: April 15th-April 19th

It's finally time to reap the rewards you've earned from all that hard work collecting and returning the Hope orbs! Be careful walking the streets during the small earthquakes, but feel free to admire the scenery as your beautiful city reassembles its way back into its former glory.

There are new houses where the destroyed buildings once were, and they're perfect for a single person or pair of lovebirds. In addition, you'll find that the electricity to these new houses, and all other homes and shops in the city is restored. The food is better, the monsters are gone- hey, this city might be livable again!

To cap it all off, we've got a feast waiting for you on the 19th! Come one, come all, and enjoy all of your favorite foods, drinks, and party games. It's been awhile since we've all gotten together to celebrate something good, so get your party on and toss all your troubles away!

Okay, fine. Stick to your crazy straws.

[hardwearing]

I don't know why you're acting like straws are utensils today. But thanks for sharing what you got.

[evocation]

I just wanted to see if you could do it. You wanna see what else I got?

[hardwearing]

Yeah. You said there was a lot you missed from home.

[evocation]

Okay. Come on.

[And with that she abandons her beer altogether and loops her free arm through his to drag him off.]

Do you like spicy food?

[hardwearing]

[ ... for some reason that question imbues him with a vague sense of dread. ]

How spicy are we talking?

[evocation]

[She smiles, and it somehow just misses innocent.]

Not that bad. You can totally handle it.

[hardwearing]

[ Yup. He recognizes that expression, and it means he's in over his head. OH WELL. ]

Sure I can.

[ He's been in the military for twelve years, Kyna, that diet is astonishingly bland by design. They may both regret this endeavor. ]

[evocation]

[Oh yeah, they absolutely will. She finally stops at a table absolutely loaded with stuff, and instead of going for something relaxing like the brownies or tamales, she goes for a plate of noodles, instead.]

Try this first.

[hardwearing]

[ That's a lot of food, most of which he does recognize -- but not the red tinged noodles she selects. He's just macho enough to go through with this, and just comfortable enough with his likely wimpiness that he's gonna make sure he has enough to drink left in case it's miserable. ]

Okay...

[ Maybe he just psyched himself up enough, but it's not so bad? It tastes good and takes a few bites before the heat kicks in and he needs to reach for his beer, and ultimately leaves him sniffling a little but not uncomfortable. He's had worse, for sure. ]

What's this?

[evocation]

Drunken noodles. They're good, right?

[hardwearing]

Yeah, I like them. You're two for two so far.

[evocation]

[She beams at him, takes the noodles back, and swaps them out. This time she's offering him chicken curry. Easy!]

[hardwearing]

[ Well if that first bite of sushi and the noodles are representative of her spice preference, he's actually feeling pretty confident now.

So of course this is where things go terribly wrong.

Dish #3 is way too much for him, the burn starting while he's still chewing and rising sharply into his nose. Sucking in air just makes it worse, and he barely manages to swallow before he starts coughing. Which means he can't take a drink and this burn is intense enough he starts sweating from it, face flushed. Abort mission. ]

...too hot.......

[evocation]

[Oh no. Kyna can't help it—she bursts out laughing, even as she immediately takes the plate away and reaches for his beer.]

Oh God, I'm sorry.

[hardwearing]

[ Did she give him that on purpose?! Even as he grabs the glass and starts drinking his eyes are betrayed over the rim of it. Between sips he gets out: ]

Sadist.

[evocation]

[Now she's really laughing.]

Sorry. I thought you were into that.

[hardwearing]

[ Oh my god Kyna they're in public. How many shades of red can he turn and how many can he blame on the vindaloo? ]

Dumped.

[ Who here got ice cream, he's gonna go proposition them instead. ]

[evocation]

Bullshit. You love me.

[She says it as a joke, without thinking, and then it's her turn to blush. Kyna turns back to the table quickly, grabbing one of the brownies and shoving it at him.]

Eat this.

[So she can go drown herself in some soup or something.]

[hardwearing]

[ It sounds like she's just giving him a hard time, but then she's blushing too and he's out of beer and still intensely uncomfortable so even though he's never heard of brownies as a remedy for spicy things.... it's getting eaten. Which also means he doesn't have to respond right that second, a bonus.

Don't drown in soup, though, that sounds awful. ]

[evocation]

Uh... I think those are the same ones my brother makes. If that's like... possible.

[Avoidance! Avoidance is good.]

[hardwearing]

[ Whether they're his brownies or not, it actually is helping. And tastes pretty good once his mouth isn't on fire as much anymore. She is definitely being awkward now, though, and leaving Wash to salvage an uncomfortable situation is a bad choice. He'll try??? ]

Nico bakes?

[ His voice is a little rough from the coughing. ]

[evocation]

Kind of. Just the brownies. They're his thing.

[hardwearing]

...it's a normal brownie, right?

[ He doesn't taste anything funny but after that curry it's possible. ]

[evocation]

[That gets her to smile again and roll her eyes.]

Yes. Except for the grasshoppers.
