What: The event log for the A Hope for the Future event
Where: All over the city!
When: April 15th-April 19th
Warnings: Stealth Rock

It's finally time to reap the rewards you've earned from all that hard work collecting and returning the Hope orbs! Be careful walking the streets during the small earthquakes, but feel free to admire the scenery as your beautiful city reassembles its way back into its former glory.

There are new houses where the destroyed buildings once were, and they're perfect for a single person or pair of lovebirds. In addition, you'll find that the electricity to these new houses, and all other homes and shops in the city is restored. The food is better, the monsters are gone- hey, this city might be livable again!

To cap it all off, we've got a feast waiting for you on the 19th! Come one, come all, and enjoy all of your favorite foods, drinks, and party games. It's been awhile since we've all gotten together to celebrate something good, so get your party on and toss all your troubles away!

Don't call me 'honey'. [She purses her lips slightly, not quite drunk enough to brush off those kinds of nicknames. It's just as well, then, that he asks her actual name before she can give him a telling off about being so familiar with her.]

I'm Julie.

[She reaches over, hand held out to shake his.]

And I need a few more before it'll actually be drunk Jenga.

Got it. Promise. No honey. [ He may joke around a lot and flirt unabashedly and with little restraint at times, but he always strives for being respectful, too, when a boundary is set.

He shakes her hand, accompanying that with a smile and a friendly nod. ]

Yeah. Same here. You sticking with the same drink? I'll top us both off?

[Oh, well, that was easier than she expected. Her handshake is firm - just like her father taught her - and she grins at him now she knows she doesn't have to fight him for boundaries of respect.]

Uh, yeah, I'm just drinking-- shit, what is this.

[She started on beer, but she left that behind a while ago.]

Scotch, I think? I could try something else. What are you having?

[ He tries to be a decent guy, and he's fallen short plenty of times, but he tries at least. It's important to him not to be one of those smarmy assholes he can't stand. There's good-natured fun, and there's respecting a lady's boundaries. ]

I dig Scotch. Vodka, too, but...let's go with Scotch. Knock a few back, and you'll no doubt kick my ass at this game. Don't even know how to play so trying it out drunk's gonna be fun.

[ He's game, though, for sure. ]

You don't know how to play Jenga? Wow, talk about a lost childhood.

[As far as Julie's concerned, it's a staple. Like Scrabble or Trivial Pursuit. What kind of kid grows up not knowing how to play Jenga?]

But sure, let's line them up. Then I'll show you how to play.

Oh, yeah, tell me about it. Questioning my formative years now.

[ He's teasing a little, but also he never really got a chance to just goof around and play games much as a kid so there's plenty he could stand to learn.

He grabs the game, though, and dumps everything out of the box, starting to stack it all up. ]

So is there a strategy to this or it's just fucking random, you pull one out and hope for the best?

[She shoos his hands away, taking over the stacking and painstakingly making sure that every layer is in line with the one below it. The tip of her tongue pokes out from between her teeth while she does this, leaning in close to make sure she doesn't knock it over prematurely.]

You can't take one from the top, and you can only use one hand.

[ It's both hilarious and adorable to watch her stack everything up into tower formation. He's not sure he's going to think real hard about it for this first go around, just basically yank stuff and see what happens. ]

I think you're making up that one-handed part. [ It's just a tease, and he's smirking at her, but he leans in close, examining all angles for a few seconds before grabbing a block from the middle, pulling it out and setting it aside. ]

Thought I'd take the whole thing out on my first try but I didn't so hey, not bad, right?

I'm not! Honest, it's in the rules. [She tells him, grinning. It is in the rules, but no one really plays these kinds of games by the rules, do they?

Julie watches him, her hands held primly under her chin, and follows the movement of his hand.]

That was a rookie move, but sure. [Another grin.] You put that one on the top, now.

Sure, sure. [ He laughs softly, but he puts that block on top, like she said. ] You know, if we get really good at this, maybe we could go pro.

Hah, we could set up some tournaments. [She grins at him again, then turns her attention to the tower. With the tip of her middle finger, she carefully tests a couple of blocks until she finds one that she can ease out, drawing it free and placing it on top.]

Think people would go for it?

I mean, between your skills and my charm, I'm sure we'd draw a huge crowd. [ It's a shame he has such a low opinion of himself, really. ]

I bet we could. [She laces her fingers together under her chin while she watches his next move.]

We could set up rounds, have a competition final at the end. Bet people would do it. Everyone loves something like that.

Shit, yeah. We could use all the fun possible around here, right? [ So with his turn, he's careful as he reaches out, pulling a block a bit lower this time. The tower wavers, and he stops. ] Fuck.

[ Should he back out??? ] Ah, fuck it. [ Nah, he's going for it.

And it falls. Yeah. Just his second turn. ]

[Julie sees it coming, and shifts herself out of the way just enough that she doesn't get showered with falling jenga pieces. She laughs, putting her face into her hands and shaking her head.]

Oh, god, you're so bad at this. [She chuckles, lowering her hands.]

Wanna go again?

I do, but not yet. Gotta practice so I can kick your ass next time.

[ He laughs at himself, though, just amused that such a seemingly simple game got the better of him. ]
