Event Log: A Hope for the Future

Who: All characters participating in the event
What: The event log for the A Hope for the Future event
Where: All over the city!
When: April 15th-April 19th
Warnings: Stealth Rock

It's finally time to reap the rewards you've earned from all that hard work collecting and returning the Hope orbs! Be careful walking the streets during the small earthquakes, but feel free to admire the scenery as your beautiful city reassembles its way back into its former glory.

There are new houses where the destroyed buildings once were, and they're perfect for a single person or pair of lovebirds. In addition, you'll find that the electricity to these new houses, and all other homes and shops in the city is restored. The food is better, the monsters are gone- hey, this city might be livable again!

To cap it all off, we've got a feast waiting for you on the 19th! Come one, come all, and enjoy all of your favorite foods, drinks, and party games. It's been awhile since we've all gotten together to celebrate something good, so get your party on and toss all your troubles away!

► This log covers April 14th-April 19th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you get hit by levitating rubble or eat a food that wasn't meant for you, please let us know here.

[Jo's checking out the spread again. She isn't really paying attention to the people around her, but when Sonya speaks up she turns to the other woman.]

Yeah? The feasts here are usually okay.

So these are a regular event? Monthly? [She would feel a little better if that was the case. With how she was feeling a majority of the time in this place, she couldn't afford to jump suspicion at every strange occurrence.]

She motioned to the platter of enchiladas.]
Please, take some. Can't eat all of this myself.

No, not really. [Jo settles into a seat and checks out the offered food.]

There's one every few months.

[Deep down, she really had no idea how to feel about all of this. Perhaps this is no better then she deserves after the war; a combination of time on leave, but not a complete vacation.] So, best take advantage, then?

[She held out her hand.] Sonya Blade, US army special forces-or was back home.

Just don't make yourself sick.

[Jo gives Sonya a quick once over after that introduction, before shaking the offered hand.]

I'm Jo Harvelle. You were in the Army?

Technically, I still am. [She went back to her tea.] But given this isn't connected or part of the US army's reach, best I could do is be part of the guard here. [If she was going to be stuck here, she might as well help defend it.]

Less risk if you share some of it with me. Can't go wrong with home-made tex-mex.

[Jo laughs quietly, nodding before giving the options a closer look.]

What made you join the army? [It's a casual question as she scoops up one of the enchiladas.]

[She's in the process of eating another bite when the question's given: a casual question, but the answer was complicated.] Legacy? My dad was in the military-marines actually, but discussion suggested that I'd be better suited for the army.

[She recalled being told she was too smart for the marines, and it didn't matte so long as she was in the Armed Forces.] And, I was nineteen at the time, suppose there's that idealism of wishing to belong to something larger than yourself-for the greater good.

[She'd been in the military long enough to see the proverbial blind spots and black marks, but she also knew of Outworld and other realms-and she wouldn't change her position for anything.

[Following in her father's footsteps. That's something Jo can relate to.

Idealism too. Hell, that's what keeps Hunters going.]

So you always knew you'd do that?

Yeah. [Because it was all she had at the time. He'd been gone for so long, she wanted to hold onto something from him.] Granted, part of me figured I'd be a medic or even work in artillery-was the former at first before being selected to test for SF.

[She still remembered her uncle's reaction when he told her-when he recovered enough to speak.]

They don't let a lot of girls into special forces, do they? [She's pretty sure she's heard that much.]

At the time I volunteered, it was part of a wider experiment. Meant to be covert, but word got around anyway.[She'd set her food down, not full, but unable to continue.] Women could still join, but it's always 'under the table', and as part of gathering intelligence, nothing that actually requires combat duty.

[Not for the first time, she was grateful for getting the training she did, when she did. Between that and her luck were the only reasons she felt she survived in the first place-for all the good it did.]

Guys are always afraid we'll show 'em up. [Jo laughs, smiling broadly.]

Am I allowed to ask what kind of experiment?
