What: The event log for the A Hope for the Future event
Where: All over the city!
When: April 15th-April 19th

It's finally time to reap the rewards you've earned from all that hard work collecting and returning the Hope orbs! Be careful walking the streets during the small earthquakes, but feel free to admire the scenery as your beautiful city reassembles its way back into its former glory.

There are new houses where the destroyed buildings once were, and they're perfect for a single person or pair of lovebirds. In addition, you'll find that the electricity to these new houses, and all other homes and shops in the city is restored. The food is better, the monsters are gone- hey, this city might be livable again!

To cap it all off, we've got a feast waiting for you on the 19th! Come one, come all, and enjoy all of your favorite foods, drinks, and party games. It's been awhile since we've all gotten together to celebrate something good, so get your party on and toss all your troubles away!

Oh Alphys. Rey is almost concerned at first when the lizard woman starts crying, only to realize that they aren't tears of sadness. Honestly, this is somehow cute.

"Maybe something can be arranged with one of the gods. It'd be nice to see more of those empty restaurants functional." She takes her glass of bourbon and washes down the bao just stuffed her face with, glancing to Alphys. "You know, you're fucking cute."

The alcohol she's been drinking might have gotten to her. Just a little bit.

You know, she was doing a good job of not choking like Rey was concerned about before she said those words, but after? Now it's an unfairly balanced game. Alphys is mid-horking down all that food when she starts sputtering, a blush rising to her face in an instant. She grabs for a glass of water, slugging it down as she tries to swallow and breathe at the same time. Eventually, she finishes downing it, slamming the glass down and keeping herself propped up against the table by her hands, face now just engulfed in red.

"W-What???" Is she being punked. She's being punked, right. And yet, here she is looking at Rey wide eyed, looking increasingly more like a balloon about to pop than a person or Monster right now.

At first Rey wonders if Alphys was eating too fast. Should she do something? Heimlich maneuver? Rey starts to get up, until the lizard chugs a whole glass of water and speaks. Okay, so she's not choking to death.

But then...

"What?" Rey blinks.

Alphys just stares at her after that comment, like she has no idea how to go from here. She was joking, right? These are jokes. Hahaha. Why would-- she shouldn't ask--

"You think I'm cute???" That was probably louder than intended.

Did she say something wrong? Rey finds herself bewildered by Alphys now.

"Um. Yes?" She scratches the side of her head, hair ruffling. Damn, she needs another cut. "Is that a problem? I mean, ah. Sorry if it is. Didn't want to make it weird or anything."

Too late for that now, huh? Thanks, Reybama.

Nah Rey, it's no problem, Alphys is just gonna blush herself to death. It's fine. She opens and closes her mouth a few times, trying to think of words and coming out with nothing.

"Y... You... cute... me??? Me." She leans on the table, like she's just been struck with an earth-shattering realization. "Me... a-actually cute?? This isn't a joke or something?"

Alphys would probably look hopeful for that answer, if she didn't look so encompassed in red that she might pass out.

Don't die, Alphys! It's bad enough that she's bewildered as it is. Whatever sort of reaction she was expecting -- a simple thank you, that's nice, maybe -- this was not it. And it's worrying.

"No, it's... not. A joke. It's not a joke," Rey says slowly. "Hey, are you okay?"

Is she going to have to call a doctor over for some reason?

Because that would be awkward.

She has probably made this way more of a reaction than it really Needed to be, but she's Alphys, so. Any declarations of any kind of romantic intent must be done massive and with a lot of screaming. She ducks her face into her hands again, trying to recover from this.

"It's fine! I'm fine. I just, I don't-- p-people don't say that sort of thing to me, uhm, at all! And you're really, uh, really pretty... so..." She'll just climb under the table now? It's fine? This is fine.

While Rey wasn't consciously complimenting Alphys with romantic intent, it does hit her why Alphys is responding so dramatically. But when she speaks again, Rey just smiles. This isn't like with Bianca, where everything always felt hollow; that the things she told Rey were things she told to anyone she liked. And she proved through her actions that Rey was no more special to her than anyone else. At the time, that's what she believed she deserved, but she knows people who would definitely beg to differ.

"Ah. Thanks." Rey tries to maintain her own composure at the returned compliment. Focus on the task at hand! And also take Alphys by the shoulder so she doesn't actually try to crawl away. "I'm not just saying it to mess with you. You've been a great friend, so... thanks, again. Really."

Trying not to make this awkward only to potentially make it even more awkward. Well done, Rey.

Everything is romantic intent to Alphys when it can be misconstrued and give her heart palpitations. Rey smiles and Alphys is certain her SOUL is going to rocket out of her body and she's just going to explode. It's fine. This is fine.

"Well... I... t-this..." Is she going to collapse, oh gosh, hold it together. Alphys shakes her head just a bit to stop from outright falling over. "I'm glad. That I could be a good friend to you, uhm, though everything. You're wonderful."

Well, now Alphys is just flattering. Rey smiles faintly.

"You are a good friend," she confirms. "I've been lucky to have you around. The whole city is, actually."

She knows Alphys has lost a lot, too. It makes Rey all the more grateful that she's had some friends stick around.

Hey, is it flattering if she believes it? She feels the same, though-- there's a lot of people who have gone. At least Rey is still here.

"Well, I-I-I don't know about the whole city, but uhm, I've tried to help people. I hope some of that has uhm, stuck, and... yeah." She smiles at Rey, face still red. "So it, uh... let's k-keep helping people!"

Even though Rey tries not to think about all the things she has lost over the past couple of years, it would be a lie to say that she doesn't think about it. She does, which is the problem.

Right now, that's not what matters. Bad feelings can fuck off, man.

"Keep helping..." She pauses, before giving a thumbs up. "Hey, sounds like a solid enough plan if I ever heard one.

"But for now, feel free to help yourself to any dim sum. I'm going to try and pack as much shit to take home as I can."

She smiles, slightly wobbly but still feeling warm. She has good friends, good food, a good place here. Maybe right now that's the best thing to focus on.

Alphys nods, clenching her fist suddenly in a fit of decision. "Yeah! K-Keep it coming, Hope!! We're gonna eat so much and then eat leftovers for weeks!"

And all of that, well, that's just great.
