Event Log: A Hope for the Future

What: The event log for the A Hope for the Future event
Where: All over the city!
When: April 15th-April 19th
Warnings: Stealth Rock

It's finally time to reap the rewards you've earned from all that hard work collecting and returning the Hope orbs! Be careful walking the streets during the small earthquakes, but feel free to admire the scenery as your beautiful city reassembles its way back into its former glory.

There are new houses where the destroyed buildings once were, and they're perfect for a single person or pair of lovebirds. In addition, you'll find that the electricity to these new houses, and all other homes and shops in the city is restored. The food is better, the monsters are gone- hey, this city might be livable again!

To cap it all off, we've got a feast waiting for you on the 19th! Come one, come all, and enjoy all of your favorite foods, drinks, and party games. It's been awhile since we've all gotten together to celebrate something good, so get your party on and toss all your troubles away!

Is that his name? I have not spoken to him, I fear. I only know there is at least one person here.

[Ignis nods.]

Whistler. We've spoken on a few occasions. [Over what, he doesn't elaborate.]

But he does appear to be someone who prefers to keep to himself.

[bythewaves]

Ah. [ Maglor nods ]

I had wondered if Matt was the only one - I thought I heard that there were others... but I don't pay much attention to the network. I suppose I should.

[claritatis]

Perhaps you should.

[Perhaps then he'd have a greater mind as to whose lives he might be affected when he launches himself into revenge missions.]

I believe we have an unresolved dispute to discuss.

[bythewaves]

[ he cocks his head at Ignis, eyes inhuman ]

Do we?

[claritatis]

[Perhaps it's a good thing that he would have to get up far earlier to be able to intimidate Ignis. The young man lets out a soft, patient sigh.]

You said yourself that you weren't one to be counted wise, but don't insult me by feigning ignorance.

[bythewaves]

[ His eyes settle, but the fell light in them is only shrouded, a fire that is banked but ever present - this, he doesn't hide from Ignis ]

I do not. I thought you wished not to speak of it, Ignis. Margaery sleeps well, now, and she will not be caught any longer. It is cowed, and the rulers here have leashed it. As a lord, Ignis, I could do no less than this, although I do not expect you to understand.

[ This is what I am ]

[claritatis]

If the gods here set limits on the demon's power, then your actions against it were unnecessary.

[Ignis' voice is level and quiet, not judging, but not holding any warmth of approval.]

But you're wrong. There is one single person in my life for whom I would see entire worlds burn, and should your actions have put him in any danger, you would have personally experienced just how keenly I understand.

[bythewaves]

It was. One of my own asked me for it's life, Ignis. To refuse Margaery would be a betrayal of her. And we did not know it's abilities had been curbed. They have never done so before, after all - it caught It by surprise as well, for it was foolish enough to attack us when it saw us, my brother and I.

[ Maglor shakes his head ]

If you know, then you understand. But Ignis, I once stood aside and watched the one I love tormented by the Enemy for thirty years, because he told me to take care of our people, in his place. My duty to mine must come before even my most dear - as that was his wish also.

[claritatis]

[Ignis gives a short, tense sigh, lips pressed together.]

Talking to you is like speaking to a concrete wall. [He tells the elf, though there's no particular menace in the words. Not being able to say that he would not have done the same thing should Noctis have been hurt makes it impossible for him to continue telling Maglor that he shouldn't have done it.]

At least, should you plan to do something like that again, could you not announce it on the network for all to see?

[Including your target?]

A little thought towards subtlety would no go amiss, to save you looking like a savage.

[bythewaves]

Tell me, my friend, would you stop if I asked you the same?

[ Maglor says quietly, and shakes his head ]

You would have me attack them without fair warning? Is that not far more savage? We always send a message first.

[claritatis]

You wouldn't have the opportunity. [Comes the blunt reply, his eyes flinty.]

But there are better ways to send a message to someone you intend to attack than announcing it to all and sundry. Unless you also wanted to provoke the reactions of others beforehand, and I would like to think you above such games.

[bythewaves]

You are a fine one to speak of talking to a brick wall, Ignis!

I may be dispossed but as long as there are those who follow me, I have a duty to them. And our House has always sent a message first. It would be wrong not to.

[claritatis]

Am I? I'm quite convinced that you're not listening to a word I'm saying.

[He doesn't raise his voice, but keeps his tone cool. Years of dealing with diplomats have given him fine skills in that regard.]

If you're only going to hear what you wish to, I shan't waste any more of my time on this.

[bythewaves]

Nor are you I. [ Maglor points out dryly ]

My obligations have always been to more than myself, Ignis. I have two of my liege-lords here, and I have those under my care. That you do not like the way we do things does not mean I am about to change them for you or any other. Especially not when I have both permission and orders! So we have done, so we will do.

[claritatis]

You claim that your obligations are to more than yourself but I have heard nothing but a self-driven desire for revenge. Make excuses as you will, frame it as vengeance well-earned as indeed it was, but you thought nothing of potentially placing everyone here in danger to sate your need for retribution.

[There's a sharp challenge in his eyes, chin tilted slightly upwards.]

You are only fortunate that those I care for came to no harm because of you. I don't fault your actions, do not misunderstand. I fault your lack of foresight and due consideration for the people you could have caused to come to harm because of them. Were you happy for the weight of that to be on your conscience? Did you think of it, over the given consent of your lords to shed more blood than was already spilled? A simple yes or no will suffice.

[bythewaves]

If you do you are not listening to me any more than you say I listen to you. I am obligated to Margaery, Ignis. I do not expect you to understand, and I seek no one's approval nor permission save the only two here who have any right to gainsay me.

I did no more than I have always done in the defence of those under my care, and much less, in many ways. If the song bends towards tragedy, then it bends, and those sins are on my hands. But I will not break my own duty for anything less than my king's word.

[claritatis]

Did you think of it, or did you not care to? Yes, or no.

[He can do this all day.]

I don't need your reasons. What's done is done. I need to know if you spared a single thought for those you could have harmed.

[bythewaves]

[ He sighs in frustration - Ignis is still not listening ]

Of course I considered it. It's what I'm trained to do Ignis. It's what being a prince and lord means. I just consider it below the needs of those immediately beholden to me.

[claritatis]

[Oh, he's listening. He needed to hear it said plainly, not dressed up in pretty words and convoluted explanations bound up in 'duty'. That he understands the elf's position has already been made quite clear by him. What one feels they should do can often be tangled so closely with what duty demands that they feel one and the same.

At least now, he's quite aware of where he stands. He huffs out a soft breath through his nose.]

You are a frustrating elf, Maglor.
