Event Log: A Hope for the Future

What: The event log for the A Hope for the Future event
Where: All over the city!
When: April 15th-April 19th
Warnings: Stealth Rock

It's finally time to reap the rewards you've earned from all that hard work collecting and returning the Hope orbs! Be careful walking the streets during the small earthquakes, but feel free to admire the scenery as your beautiful city reassembles its way back into its former glory.

There are new houses where the destroyed buildings once were, and they're perfect for a single person or pair of lovebirds. In addition, you'll find that the electricity to these new houses, and all other homes and shops in the city is restored. The food is better, the monsters are gone- hey, this city might be livable again!

To cap it all off, we've got a feast waiting for you on the 19th! Come one, come all, and enjoy all of your favorite foods, drinks, and party games. It's been awhile since we've all gotten together to celebrate something good, so get your party on and toss all your troubles away!

How poor Nelyo must have despaired of all of us! Although Moryo's script was exquisitely fine.

Yes, our poor elder brother was tasked with teaching us our letters. [ Laugh ] What an awful job!

And that's true, Moryo was actually good at writing. He wrote with such a beautiful hand! When we were all sitting at the same table with all that clutter of pens and pencils and ink bottles and scrolls of parchment, I used to sidle up to him and look over his arm and try to copy his style.

I think we are all very grateful he had endless patience for annoying younger brothers!

[ Maglor smiles at the memory ]

He always had a good hand. It served him well for his embroidery work, too. But we all had our own talents! I remain surprised how terrible your writing was, though.

We are grateful. In fact, I think were were grateful even then.

[ Happy memories! ]

I remember his embroidery. The first time I saw him working on it, I was just a little Elfling. . . and he wasn't all that much bigger, but he was working away at a little flag that was a prototype of a banner he wanted to make. I hung on his shoulder and blinked in astonishment at how beautiful the colors were, and how skillfully stitched were the figures of stars and flowers. I couldn't pronounce my "r's" yet. [ Chuckle.] "MOWO! WHAT YOU DOING???" I asked.

How annoyed he was at our noise - he mustn't have been pleased at your interruption!

He was frequently annoyed, and he wasn't shy about letting us know just how annoyed he was. [ Grin. ] If I had a jewel for every time he called me "brat," I'd be richer than all the kings of Numenor!

I am fairly sure 'brat' was Caranthir's word for 'I love you'.

I'm fairly sure of that, too.

[ Maglor snorts, amused ]

I think our brother did that long before.

Indeed, he was most accomplished in synonyms. [ Snicker. ] Dear Moryo.

MOWO! [ Imitating his preschooler self again. ]

Ai! No need to revert to that childish babble. You speak perfectly well now.

[ Curufin ducks but not quite fast enough! ]

Of course I do. Oh, but it was so amusing at the time, when I was first working out how to pronounce the Elvish language. Even I thought it was funny!

I didn't have any trouble calling you Kano, but I loved to say your mother-name. [ Giggle ] Remember how I used to tug on your sleeve and importune you for music? -- "PWAY YOU HAWP, MACA-WAU-WÉ!" [ Saying his dear brother's name in three distinct syllables, with his mouth quirking childishly, giving it everything he's got, as he did back in those days. Toddlers work so hard to learn to speak! ]

[ this time Maglor slugs him (gently!) in the arm with laugh ]

Ai! Enough already! I don't need to be reminded.

[ he pretends to shudder ]

Ouch! [ Curufin clowns a little, rocking as though Maglor has hit him much harder than in fact he has, pretending to lose his balance and fall over. Then he nudges his brother's shoulder teasingly and affectionately. ]

My early experiments with Quenya consonants weren't music to your ears? [ Big grin]

No wonder Moryo calls you brat. [ Maglor says fondly ]

It was more a marvel as to how many ways you could mangle it!

I try to earn the title. [ Snerk. ]

Hey, it's a complex skill! -- mangling the language. I will have you to know I made masterful study of that. I could have written a thesis on it.

[bythewaves]

You'll be the only one who reads it! [ Maglor threatens fondly ]

Oh alas, my lonely thesis will be confined forever to the shelves of some dusty bookcase in a corner of a dark house. The Halls of Mandos, only for books. [ Snicker snicker ] For unfortunate books that swore an Oath of allegiance to the God of Babble.

You mean grandfather's gargantuan library? [ Maglor says dryly ]

I don't know if people even know what's in there, any more. Some of those manuscripts are from our very earliest days of writing.

Exactly! It was a home for unfortunate books. [ And now he is really laughing, remembering scouring the shelves for old treatises on forging and the history of metalwork. ]

I saw some of those old manuscripts! From back when they were just inventing the art of making parchment, and the runes were not yet developed to the degree that they were in Atar's time -- before he invented the Elven-script. . .

Say, do you think he maybe invented the script letters so he wouldn't have to crane his neck and wreck his eyes reading that awful old rectilinear style?

I am fairly certain atar did it simply because he could. But it would not surprise me, if that were indeed the case - and you knew his mind far better than I!
