What: The event log for the A Hope for the Future event
Where: All over the city!
When: April 15th-April 19th

It's finally time to reap the rewards you've earned from all that hard work collecting and returning the Hope orbs! Be careful walking the streets during the small earthquakes, but feel free to admire the scenery as your beautiful city reassembles its way back into its former glory.

There are new houses where the destroyed buildings once were, and they're perfect for a single person or pair of lovebirds. In addition, you'll find that the electricity to these new houses, and all other homes and shops in the city is restored. The food is better, the monsters are gone- hey, this city might be livable again!

To cap it all off, we've got a feast waiting for you on the 19th! Come one, come all, and enjoy all of your favorite foods, drinks, and party games. It's been awhile since we've all gotten together to celebrate something good, so get your party on and toss all your troubles away!

► This log covers April 14th-April 19th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you get hit by levitating rubble or eat a food that wasn't meant for you, please let us know here.

I understand what you mean. [Glacius waves a hand, as though dismissing Michael's worries, but maybe also slighting the sentiment.] I think saying that we all have achieved "understanding" is a bit idealistic, though. There are things about your kind that I have yet to grasp... and many of you have reacted to me with fear or suspicion. Anger, fear, and conflict have mottled my interactions with your kind, and your interactions with each other. We have more work yet to do if we want to truly claim understanding and thus acceptance of each other... but moments like this are a step in the right direction.

[Oh, huh. Michael had mostly meant that they'd separately evolved to be conscious and capable of reason and stuff, but Glacius has a good point.]

Yeah, humans are like that sometimes. Sorry you've had to deal with it.

[Though he realizes he can't speak on behalf of all humans in all worlds, so this doesn't really make it better.]

At least most of the people here seem pretty cool? [At least he hopes nobody in Hadriel has been an asshole to Glacius. At least not because of the alien thing.]
glacius: (Gentle giant.)

As am I. [The blunt and honest truth, as Glacius is always inclined to give... but at least he does not seem terribly aggrieved right now. There's a lot about human nature that he finds confounding at best, and outright despicable at worst... but he has had a long life, and a lot of years therein to process what he went through, and the kindness that he's been shown by people here has helped him learn not to paint all humans with such broad strokes as the rest of his race might. That is what let him agrees with Michael's gentle hope.]

"Cool"... a word you humans have adapted to slang for agreeable or desirable. Yes, I have met a fair number of people who I would describe as such. I admit that I find your race to be one of the most predisposed towards conflict, be it external or internal, but seeing your helpfulness and consideration is at least heartening. I no longer have to wonder if I was misguided in my attempts to defend your race. [The alien pauses, then lets out a little rumbling sound that might be a chuckle.] Though many others might disagree. That is fine; I know my path.

Yeah, I can't exactly argue with that.

[Human history, not to mention his own personal history, is a pretty good indicator that they're not exactly a peaceful species.]

I'm, uh, glad you didn't give up on us, though. [And it's not even entirely because the idea of Glacius as an enemy is kind of scary.]

So then... your people don't have wars or anything? Or at least, I guess you must not have nearly as many as we do.
glacius: (Let me speak.)

I appreciate you saying that. [He does; he really, genuinely does. Not many people know of his involvement with humanity, and even less have actually expressed appreciation for it, even though they very much should. This is even more the case in his own world, where he was the only member of the multi-species conglomerate known as the Alliance of Worlds who was concerned for humanity to begin with.]

The latter. Our wars are incredibly infrequent and we try to avoid them whenever possible. Our culture in general thrives around conflict resolution and working for the betterment of the whole rather than the few. Beyond that, we simply despise violence and brutality; we are at our hearts a peaceful species. Our involvement in external affairs grew from a desire to see that same peace and order extended further into the galaxy.
