The withering branch had been left behind all alone
Who: Nagito Komaeda, Yusuke Kitagawa, Akira Kurusu
What: Komaeda turns 18 today and gets an unexpected surprise.
Where: Komaeda's house
When: 28th April
Warnings: Komaeda trashtalking himself although that is a given.
[Komaeda has turned eighteen today. If age counts in this world. If he goes back home, he will automatically revert to being either seventeen or…..whatever age he was when he got taken to Jabberwock Island, considering this whole memory issue.
Not that it matters either way. His birthday has not really mattered ever since his parents died and just passes by uneventfully like every other day. Besides, why should he or anyone care about the birthday of someone so boring and unimportant? It would be far more worth it to celebrate the birthday of someone much greater than him? Someone who has magical powers or a talent that is actually useful? One whose life is worth celebrating? Someone who deserved to have a wonderful banquet dedicated in their honour!
What would the point be in having all that for someone whose talent is merely luck? Heck, what would be the point in someone like him being acknowledged by one person to whom he actually mattered?
And mattering to someone is all Komaeda wants, really. One person would be enough for him. But that is selfish of him, right?
Trying not to think about this, he decides to most of the morning reading and go out later. So for about half an hour, he has been trying to distract himself with a mystery novel.
He has no idea that his day is going to turn out to be far from uneventful.]

pawn some off on someone elsecelebrate by enjoying a good meal.balancing the plate with one hand, he pulls away the covering to reveal the candle on top, and goes to light it. once it catches, there's a nod towards yusuke that he's free to announce their arrival with a knock on the door, if he's ready too. )

At Akira's signal, he knocks on the door. Hopefully Komaeda's around...]

And so he opens the door and initially he looks confused. There are so many pancakes. Wait....is that a candle on top?
Komaeda's mouth opens, completely stunned. He did end up telling Akira his birthday when he was asked but he never expected....
Unless he misinterpreted and the pancakes are actually for someone else who coincidentally has a birthday on the same day. Which, in Komaeda's point of view, is far more likely. Swallowing his disappointment, he smiles.]
Ah. Akira-kun. Yusuke-kun. It's a pleasure to see you both. I guess you guys called because you need a hand with something? I'm certainly available for the rest of the day and it would make me happy to be useful to you guys!

Ah... ( he turns to yusuke, looking as though they'd just heard some good news. ) Did you hear that, Yusuke? It seems Komaeda-kun has no plans for the rest of the day, so that means we can safely say— ( and he turns forward again, shoving the plate at the homeowner with a broad smile. )
Happ~y Birthday~!
