Beach Boys [open]
Who: Glacius (
glacius), Carlisle Longinmouth (
tongueamok), and you!
What: Two dudes just chilling in the fun and the sun, minus the sun. Chilling likely literal. Fun debatable. Also, one of them is a giant snake.
Where: All islands, coastal areas
When: May 27th - Early June
Warnings: PG-13ish, probably?

"I still don't believe this is a good idea!"
For anyone who knows Carlisle, seeing him talking to himself -- or yelling, rather -- is probably nothing new; however, for anyone who may stumble upon this scene who isn't familiar with the anxiety-riddled clergyman, he's had better first impressions. He wouldn't want to make one right now, anyway: he's alone on the rocky beach that once led to the caves, his arms crossed as he picks at his sleeve nervously; his hair is a mess, tousled by the winds. Absent are his usual vestments, forgone for the beachwear he picked up last time the city saw so much water, and though it seems he intends to get wet at some point by virtue of his wearing them at all, the way he's standing a good distance from where the tides actually reach says otherwise. His previous encounter with the ocean had been just an illusion, a tranquil sea created by the gods; the waters then had been purposefully calm, a sharp contrast to the uneven waves before him now. The depths of this ocean are terrifyingly real, and likely home to equally terrifying creatures.
In the distance rises a serpentine figure with glowing, green eyes and spines along its head; it slithers through the waves with relative ease. Despite how frightening the monsters of the depths must be, Carlisle doesn't budge as this one looks his way before diving once more. Perhaps he doesn't consider this to be one of them -- he rubs at his arms, his eyes still upon the spot it vanished as he raises his voice once more.
"There could be anything out there!" he insists, his nose wrinkling as a gust of coastal wind pushes against him. His entire form stiffens, his fingers curling in reply, digging into his arm. "Or we could drown! I could drown! It would pull you under, and I would drown, and you'd be lost to the depths, and then we'd both wish we'd just stayed home!"
He is definitely yelling more to himself than anyone else at this point, but the serpent turns back toward the shore regardless, heading straight for him. It doesn't attack, as one might expect, doesn't lash out at the lanky, isolated clergyman from the shoreline -- instead, it snakes its way onto the sand, coils through the rocks, and stops once it reaches him, butting its forehead against his. Carlisle brings his hand up and lets it rest along his partner's mandible as they exchange a few, hushed words.
This might still be a strange sight for anyone who doesn't know either of them; however, some may recognize the sea creature as not a creature at all, but as Glacius, his icy form temporarily adapted to brave the waters of this new world. Though Carlisle remains nervous and reluctant to join him, he has nothing to fear -- no matter what lies beyond the safety of the land, they will face it together. Besides that, Glacius won't let anything happen to his human partner. Carlisle may not be as hardy when it comes to such elements, but anything that should try to attack them from the waters below will find they've challenged the wrong alien.
Giving Carlisle one more nudge for reassurance, Glacius makes his way back into the water, hoping to coax his partner into joining him -- if they aren't stopped by someone who happens up the coast, that is.
[[It's a joint log, folks! Feel free to tag either Carlisle, Glacius, or both as they hang around the coasts of all islands!]]

Carlisle first, then Glacius can join later!
"Cisth, don't—" He resettles his arms into one another, grasping at the fabric of his sleeve once more as he looks her up and down, then returns his gaze to the ocean as though it would sneak up on him if he left himself unguarded. "Yes, we're friends. More than that. And he might not be scared, but there are times I wonder if he should be."
c:
Aha, she's got it.
"Like my partner. He's like twice my size and looks like he could kill you -- probably could, too -- but he's a big teddy bear who just wants to keep everyone safe."
It's been long enough now since she was home that she knlws she should miss Bill Harken, but it's hard when she can't actually remember him.
But hey, this isn't about her. It's about this tall dude and that more than friend of his out there.
"No way, you and a sea serpent?" Kat isn't sure if this is her first time hearing about interspecies relationships, but she does know one thing: "That's wild. He must be really nice to date a scaredy cat like you."
She's teasing. Memory problems or not, she is a champion at teasing tall people. Never mind everyone's taller than her tiny self, okay.

"H- he is no more a serpent than I am a cat," he remarks finally, attempting to find a topic that doesn't involve bears. "He is merely able to adjust his form. And I'm human. You cannot be so blind as to assume otherwise."
Apparently, the term 'scaredy cat' isn't one used in his world.
no subject
"It's just a saying." She laughs a little. "I'm Kat. Not a cat. I mean my name is Kat, k-a-t. And I'm already impressed by your uh, more than friend out there. I've never met anyone who can shapeshift like that."
The rest of the team has, but if they told Kat about it, she's long since forgotten it.

"If I could turn into something like that, I would. How else are we supposed to get from island to island here? Mopeds aren't made for submarine cruising.
Don't think you're getting away with not saying your name, though.
"So that's Glacius. I'm Kat. And you're...?"

"As for how others are supposed to travel from island to island," he continues, not missing a beat, "perhaps they should have thought about that before participating in the false gods' little survey. This isn't idea, but I will admit that it is vastly preferable to the jungle."
He says that last part with some venom; apparently, he is not a fan of jungles at all.

Kat...
"Not everyone voted for the islands, right? Sucks for everyone who voted for another place." She shrugs. "I didn't vote at all, and now I have to figure out how to travel."

Some people missed the sunlight, but Carlisle actually didn't mind what they had. No sporadic weather save for what was caused by the false gods themselves, no blistering heat or endless waters. Day in and day out, almost always the same. He liked that kind of reliability.

"Cave. That sounds pretty cool. There must've been a ton to explore." She probably would've liked it too. Except-- "I'd miss the sky, though. I'd be afraid of forgetting what it looks like."
For anyone else, that's an exaggeration, but for Kat, it's a real fear, rooted in the downside of what makes her so unpredictable in a fight, and in life in general.
no subject
Or maybe that's just him. Either way, the tone Carlisle takes when talking about it sounds as though he's holding a slight grudge against the sky for merely existing.

She pauses, looks out to where she last saw Glacius in the water, and shrugs, her smile fading. "I'd hate to forget it."
It'd been a constant back home, always there for her no matter how much time passed. She might not remember her own family, but she could always count on the sky being there.
"And I mean, I feel small all the time. Especially next to tall people." Lmao amirite, tall dude?
no subject
He glances down at her, chiding himself inwardly for his lack of empathy. "I suppose this conversation is not helping with that."
no subject
Okay he walked right into this, so: "Not really. How tall are you, anyway?"
Humor her, she'll get serious again in time. ...maybe.

Given who he is and what family he comes from, he has wished he were shorter more than once in his life; however, he knows good and well that if he were, he'd likely see that as another point against his place in the Longinmouth line. He has far too much against him in that regard as it is.
