Welcome to your first day in Hadriel! Enjoy your surroundings, meet your fellow travelers, and be sure to start exploring so you can collect as much loot as possible!
On the ground around you may notice bang snaps, scattered haphazardly. Try not to step on any of them, or you might burn your feet! Feel free to gather them up and use these baby fireworks however you see fit; there are dozens strewn about on the ground. Popping them will emit clouds of smoke of various colors, and... well, not much else.
Is there anything else lurking around? Glad you asked! If you look around, you may find a few innocent-looking treasure chests. Which you know, normally means free loot- except, in Hadriel, nothing is quite the way it's advertised of course and the chests are actually dangerous mimics. Mimics- often disguised as treasure chests- are monsters with surprisingly quick movements and gaping maws filled with teeth. They exist to try and fool an unlucky traveler into thinking they've gotten something good... only to lunge at them in their moment of triumph and prove that life is actually terrible and nothing comes for free.

[ he honestly considers her question as a possibility. Jack has just recently been revived due to still-unknown reasons to him, and last thing he recalls is getting his head pretty dang screwed up. stopping in his tracks, his fingers run over his face, running over the distinctive metal pieces that protrude from his skin. a breath of relief leaves him when he seems scratch-and-injury-free. like always. ]
Phew. Had me worried there! You always ask people if they have head injuries right after meeting them? Rude.

I found this really cool thing that's practically begging to be opened up by somebody, but ain't having too much luck myself. Maybe you can lend a hand―?
[ that frown turns upside down real quick. he does his best attempt at charming her with fluttering eyelashes and even leaning in closer to her. not creepily, mind you. never. ]

The chest, a trap? Like, booby trapped? [ Jack somehow resists the urge to giggle like a schoolkid at the added emphasis. he had his concerns, but he honestly didn't know! ] Uh, no. I didn't know that. Scout's honor. See, that's why I thought you would be able to help me out! You probably just saved my life, sweetheart.
[ his tone sounds genuine, which may or may not be even more concerning to her depending on how she feels about him. ]
... but how sure are we that every single chest is trapped. Just, uh, just wondering.

I've seen things like that rigged to blow people to kingdom come. Never actually attacked. Like, personally attacked a guy or gal, I mean. Ya... ya sure about that being a thing that happened, kiddo?
