Who: Cecily Trevelyan, Daenerys Targaryen, and YOU What: Two former leaders settle in to their new(ish) home within Hadriel Where: Various When: 7/1 Warnings: n/a
[ Being a member of the Guard - surprise! - requires some guarding. The Inquisitor has long since accepted that life must involve some level of responsibility, though, and is therefore perched atop "her" island's tower with her bow slung across her back. Pup hasn't joined her for this venture, as he's not a skilled climber, though the dog can be seen at the base of the tower, padding around and sniffing, bounding over to investigate anyone who approaches.
Visitors might catch her climbing up to, or down from, the watchtower, or else they might encounter the mabari keeping his own watch at the bottom. Those who are guard members themselves could certainly also be on duty, or other citizens of Hadriel could easily climb up to join Cecily as she keeps watch for... whatever it is that they guard from. Demon residents, Null invasions, and the like, she supposes...
Occasionally, she'll see how far out into the water she can shoot an arrow. Sploosh! ]
outside the colosseum
[ Another kind of guarding, later on, though non mandated by the actual Guard. Cecily is wandering around the outside of the colosseum, not fighting any monsters, but searching. She pops in and out of the tunnels, comes out alone, and seems determined about something.
At first glance, it seems like a bit of a hunt, but it isn't clear what she might be hunting for. Pup is at her side, and he sniffs around here and there, but he isn't exactly leading her on a chase after a particular scent, either.
See what she's up to, if you're feeling curious. ]
hope's temple
[ Just outside of Hope's temple sits the Inquisitor, as the day draws to a close. She seems worn out (at least, when no one's looking), bent over her knees and sighing every so often. Whether she's been in the temple or has just camped out on the steps the whole time is certain, but she certainly spends a decent amount of time out in front.
If Hope can hear her thoughts, then he'll hear a lot of renewed wishing for the chance to see her friends and loved ones again, though none of it is spoken aloud. Cecily isn't a big fan of Hope - or any of the gods - but can't seem to help herself tonight, folding her hands, shutting her eyesa, and - well, hoping. ]
[Laura catches Cecily before she ascends the ladder. she'd wanted to ask this at home to avoid an audience, but beggars apparently can't be choosers.
she has a low-quality bow slung over her shoulder and a quiver of arrows on her back. it looks ridiculous with Laura's usual daytime wear of a sweater set, a wool, plaid skirt, and pennyloafers]
Hey. Been meaning to ask you something. You're good with that. [she nods at Cecily's bow] Really good with that. I want you to teach me how.
How to use a bow? [ She seems happy at the prospect, smile only growing when her gaze lands on Laura's own weapon. ] Absolutely. I would suggest a day and time, but if you're already equipped, then why not now?
[ She also isn't willing to shirk her Guard duties, though. The Inquisitor looks up to the tower and then back down, jerking her head toward the ladder. ]
[she nods] Yeah. I know a little, but not enough. Not enough to be able to protect myself or other people. [she grins back, also excited. she's ready to become something she thought she never would be. a protector of others] Now sounds great to me.
[As far as he's concerned, Taako's pretty damn proud of himself. Sure it's been like, a few months or something, but he rarely does anything out of the goodness of his heart so everyone can probably recognize this is a feat that it got done at all. He and Lup are sauntering up after tracking her just a bit, Taako cupping his hands around his mouth once he's reached the base to yell.]
Hey! Cec! Stop working, we're gonna blow your fucking mind!
[This may have started out all Taako's project, but Lup's way too invested now to not be involved in the hand off. She trails along at her twin's side, grinning when they catch sight of the woman.]
This is the most excited I've seen him in ages. Practically dragged me along just to get to you faster.
[ At the yelling, Cecily pokes her head out over the railing, brows raised in both amusement and curiosity. ]
"Blow my fucking mind?" Well, now I have to come down. [ And so she does, descending until she's standing in front of the twins, after which she brushes herself off and glances from Lup to Taako expectantly. ]
[Taako does, in fact, look like he's buzzing in excitement and barely trying to hold it back. He's rocking on his heels as she comes down, and seems to be holding something behind his back.]
Okay, so, remember a coupla months ago where you asked me for a little save for your uh, death hand, and I said I could handle it basically permanently no problem and you were like, yeah sure, I doubt it? Well!
[He brings his hands around to the front, and inside them is a bracelet. It's mostly understated, but there's a series of inscriptions surrounding it in looping Elvish, along with a number of runes carved into the metal.]
Do tell. [ Oh. Oh. Cecily doesn't like to dare to hope in the face of inevitable deaths by embedded artifacts, but... Taako seems confident, and that's certainly encouraging. He isn't the type to lie to you for your health, she thinks. So, when the bracelet makes an appearance, her brows raise even higher as her eyes stayed glued on the thing. ]
You... think this could really work? [ She asks quietly, because she still can't fully bring herself to believe it. The Inquisitor swallows, extending the affected hand for him, even as the anchor pulses and crackles. ] It's been getting worse again, but if this can settle it...
[ Daenerys may be nearly unrecognizable to many, dressed in something like her old Dothraki garb, crouched down by the home she shares with John, Margaery, and Sansa, her hair pinned up to the back of her head. Most of it remains there, secured above her neck, but a few silver curls fall loose.
The young queen is tending to a little garden there, or trying to. Her brows crease as she studies the tiny buds, adjusting the soil around them, glancing up at the sun, and watering them from a cup she's brought from outside. It isn't immediately clear what she's trying to grow, since the greenery is only barely visible, but she certainly seems determined. ]
the water
[ Later in the day, Dany sits near the water, dipping her toes in, enjoying the break from the work she'd done earlier. Now, her hair tumbles, loose, and she wears a simple and lightweight dress. It isn't anything you would swim in, and since she never learned how, there's no intention there.
The heat of the sun doesn't seem to bother her, despite her fair skin. Dany sighs into the air, leaning forward to submerge her hand, moving it back and forth beneath the surface. It's incredible relaxing, being here, though the site of the open water makes her long for the critical mission she'd left behind, and the three behemoths that guarded it as they flew overhead... ]
the shops
[ The shops are almost always picked clean, but there's often one or two strange things to be found, buried among other bits of junk. Since it's all novel to Dany, she's curious enough about what she might find to poke through the abandoned buildings, wondering in silence about the potential use of some of them.
She comes across something odd, perhaps one of the items left in the colosseum from the last batch of arrivals. Humming thoughtfully, Dany picks it up and examines it, opens and closes it, then stares at it for a bit longer in consideration. There's no harm in just taking it, so she puts the umbrella under her arm to bring it up, resolving to ask her housemates about its purpose later. It seems enough like a shield from the sun, though she could easily be wrong, as she often is about things native to Hadriel... ]
[it's true, Daenerys' clothing does merit an eyebrow raise but what really has Margaery's attention is the little garden Daenerys is tending to. this is new? at least it's never caught Margaery's notice before. and it's a little peculiar to see the future Queen on her knees in the dirt, tending to plants.
though, she supposes, it's about as odd as a Queen sewing garments for a community]
Basil. [ Dany wipes her forehead, smiling thinly at Margaery. ] I was given them some time ago when I tended another's garden in exchange for good grown there.
[ She isn't a gardener, but... it passes the time. ]
I've grown restless here. [ She goes on to explain, jaw tightening. ] I'm not used to so much... leisure.
That's an herb, isn't it? [she smiles warmly] That seems like a fair exchange.
[and Margaery has her Sewing Shop to keep her busy and her mind occupied]
That's easy to do. [Margaery gives her a sympathetic look] No, you prefer to be doing things, but there's precious little to do around here. Unless you feel like drinking your day away at the Speakeasy. [and the note of disdain in her voice makes it clear what she thinks of that option]
I've no desire for that. Really, I would rather do more than just... [ She gestures to the little garden and sighs. ] ... But, as you said, our options are limited. I can only hope that something more engrossing presents itself in time.
[she sighs] Unfortunately, people here have little taste for what you excel at, which is leading people. It's going to serve us ill when the Null return, but they'd rather the fight degenerate into a free for all instead of unite behind anyone.
[The water had become a source of comfort for her as she adjusted to this world and attempted to make sense of everything she had been told. It had become habit to walk along the water's edge during the day, if only to collect her thoughts and calm whatever lingering anxieties had collected from the night before.
Quite often, she found others there as well. She hadn't seen Daenerys since the strange events before, but here she was, enjoying the warmth of the day and dipping her feet into the cool water.
Jeyne approached her hesitantly, a small smile on her face.]
[ When Jeyne approaches, Dany nods her head in acknowledgment, offering a small smile. ]
Do you know how to swim? [ She glances back out at the water, surveying it as it stretches far out to the horizon. ] Lady Sansa has been asking after lessons, and I wonder if I ought to do the same.
Oh yes. My father said I could swim before I could walk.
[It was a happier subject and one she was glad to discuss. There were bitter memories associated with the Crag now, but the ocean had always meant a great deal to her. Having it nearby day after day, it was where she sought solace and strength. Coming here and living beside the shore again and been the only thing to make all of this bearable.]
I could teach you both, if you like? The Crag was right along the shore, so we learned from an early age how to swim and sail.
Did he? [ She chuckles, charmed by the concept. Dany can't imagine being taught to swim even if her family had lived, though she does wonder if any of the other, recent Targaryens were able. ] Well, if you can spare the time, I would at least like to keep from drowning.
[ Good enough, isn't it? There's another small scoff as she turns her gaze back to the open water, considering. ]
Have you sailed in this world, yet? I have heard there are boats.
The island wasn't where her tower was, but even if she wasn't on patrol, she still kept up on hunting-or fishing in this case. Catching fish and searching for anything to catch was better if she tried different locations, just to see which brought in the better catch.
Dressed in a tank top and trousers (the legs rolled up to her knees), Sonya had a homemade, woven net with her as she slowly searched around for a good spot, when she spots Daenarys. Though not sure if she could call the woman a friend, she had invited her over to dinner a few times through her connection to Margery, so atleast she considered them on good terms.
"Good morning." Or, afternoon? She's lost track of the time, though it does feel a bit later in the day than the morning. Either way, the young queen turns to smile politely at Sonya, straightening up as the other woman approaches.
"I didn't realize that you were on this island. Unless you've just traveled here?"
Swam, perhaps. Others are more accomplished than she is at that, after all. Dany looks the other over, then appraises the net.
"Fishing, I assume?" she asks, with a bit more of a smile.
Strictly speaking, Sonya figured it was getting later in the morning. "Traveled," Early in the morning, the waves weren't so strong that boating between islands was easier. "And yes. The islands aren't great for hunting on land, but the fishing's decent."
And she certainly trusted her own catch better than anything in the shops.
As she spoke, she kept an eye on Daenerys, while most of her attention was on the water as her footing. "How've you been?"
"Is there much to hunt here? I haven't seen a single thing on land."
Or air, now that she thinks of it. Just the fish, really, darting occasionally past her toes. They're tiny things, though, and not enough to feed the population.
"Well enough." Nearly mad with boredom. "And what about you?"
