INTRO LOG: FACE OFF

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for November. Don't get your face eaten!
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: November 10th-17th
Warnings: Monster-related violence, people lamps, general unpleasantness, mass confusion.

You wake up on the hard earth of the colosseum. By the state of things and the various aches and pains in your body, you've probably been passed out there for awhile. A few things should immediately become clear to you upon an initial assessment.

1. You're not alone
2. You're near other people who look to be in a similar state.
3. You're also near an assortment of human shaped lamps.
4. You're also near something that skitters off into the shadows of the colosseum.

Of all of these alarming things, the skittery object might be your largest concern. Be wary when turning corners or shutting out the lights: the Hunters work best when your vision is obscured, so their gelatinous form is even harder to spot. Their main goal will be to kill people of course, though they prefer to hide in corners and smaller rooms. Watch out when trying to work through the halls of the colosseum to find the outdoors- they're surprisingly quick, and they prefer to kill their prey by opening their face-flaps and wrapping their mouths around your head. Second largest concern? Maybe it's the people lamps. Maybe it's the actual people around you. Whatever it is, be sure to familiarize yourself with it quickly. The devil you know is better than the devil you don't, after all.

All done with the horrible monsters and awkward greetings? Try your hand at exploring the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies until your little heart is content. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[A sword? Seriously? Well, okay, yes Wanda could see how that would be useful with the Hunters that they'd come up against in the arena but really that is not the first thing that people look for, is it? Like, usually don't people want guns? Lots of guns? Grenades? Maybe knives? A sword seems...oddly specific. Then again, it doesn't require ammo, does it? Has reach?]

No, nothing in particular this time.

[She pauses, not off the sword thing.]

Do you know how to use a sword? [Not that she thinks that they're just going to be lying around here...]

[ he turns to her and gives her a very flat, very are you kidding me? sort of look. really, that could be answer enough on its own. ]

I'm a former knight of the Templar Order. I know how to use a sword.

[ does he know how to use a sword. honestly. she makes it sound like it's a terribly strange thing, to use one. ... then again. with this place, who knows. maybe it is? these differences are going to take some serious getting used to. ]

[He's offended. Fine. He can't blame her for asking because really, she comes from a country where the big stick everyone carries is an assault rifle. Bombs. Tanks. Swords? Not so much. All the same, Wanda doesn't look ruffled by his look, just draws herself up tall, lips thinning.]

Templars like the freemasons?

[Wasn't that order...defunct or something? And knights more of an honorary title rather than someone who actually, well, wielded a sword, riding around the countryside on a horse? Granted, he has the build, but she finds it odd all the same.]

I have not seen any swords, regardless. Would a large knife do or...perhaps a machete?

[ cullen has had just enough conversations with other people here that he realizes this must be a "we're from different places" kind of misunderstanding. as such, he's slightly less offended and also completely skipping over her first question. he's much more focused on the whole becoming armed thing than he is learning about other places at the moment. ]

That would depend on how large the knife is. And I am... not familiar with the term machete.

[ he's crossing his fingers that it's something vaguely sword-like. ]

[Wanda presses her lips together a moment, considering him and his question a moment before beginning to gesture with her hands.]

A machete blade meant to be wielded one handed. About this long, wider at the tip. Good for cutting through brush in the wild, or so the movies would have you believe. More commonplace than swords but would work well in battle, no doubt. Not the same reach, however.

[Half the length at best, she'd imagine. But infinitely more portable, to her way of thinking.]

I have not seen any weapons around, unfortunately, so the point may be moot.

[ cullen sighs and rubs at his right temple. of course she hasn't seen any around. that's just his luck. ]

If one could be found, yes, I believe I could make use of it. But if there aren't any... [ he's fucked.

but he's not going to say that. instead, he's going to focus on the one thing in her explanation that really stuck out to him because it was so unfamiliar. ]

If I may ask... what is a movie?

[That isn't a question that she expects, but then she hasn't met so many people from other worlds that she expects such things so quickly. It takes her a little more time to get to that point, and her eyes narrow with shrewd realization.]

Movie is short for moving picture. Typically a recorded play that you can watch over and over again. They can make them all over the world, you can see places that you may never visit yourself...

[An existence that Wanda had expected to have. Getting out of Sokovia could have been possible, perhaps, but she and Pietro would never have abandoned it to escape to places unknown.]

[smited]

[ he almost asks how one can record a play and then watch it again, but decides that he doesn't actually want to get in that deep to an explanation. instead, he simply nods. ]

I see.

[ he does not. at all. ]

[divulsion]

[She can tell he doesn't get it, and Wanda purses her lips together a moment, looking around the shop to no avail.]

If I come across one, I will show it to you. I cannot explain how it is saved, how it replays but I can show you an example perhaps.

[She's the last person to be explaining any sort of tech. Better he talk to Tony Stark, perhaps, if he were there. As far as she knows, however, he's not.]
