INTRO LOG: FACE OFF

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for November. Don't get your face eaten!
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: November 10th-17th
Warnings: Monster-related violence, people lamps, general unpleasantness, mass confusion.

You wake up on the hard earth of the colosseum. By the state of things and the various aches and pains in your body, you've probably been passed out there for awhile. A few things should immediately become clear to you upon an initial assessment.
1. You're not alone
2. You're near other people who look to be in a similar state.
3. You're also near an assortment of human shaped lamps.
4. You're also near something that skitters off into the shadows of the colosseum.
Of all of these alarming things, the skittery object might be your largest concern. Be wary when turning corners or shutting out the lights: the Hunters work best when your vision is obscured, so their gelatinous form is even harder to spot. Their main goal will be to kill people of course, though they prefer to hide in corners and smaller rooms. Watch out when trying to work through the halls of the colosseum to find the outdoors- they're surprisingly quick, and they prefer to kill their prey by opening their face-flaps and wrapping their mouths around your head. Fun!

More information on Hunters can be found here!

Second largest concern? Maybe it's the people lamps. Maybe it's the actual people around you. Whatever it is, be sure to familiarize yourself with it quickly. The devil you know is better than the devil you don't, after all.

All done with the horrible monsters and awkward greetings? Try your hand at exploring the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies until your little heart is content. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

► This log covers November 10th-17th.
► Feel free to make your own logs, as well!
► All characters now arrive with phones that have network communication.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

"It's--" Z twisted her lips. Explaining her ability had never been her strong suit. "I'll show you."

Her eyes flashed yellow, and an identical copy appeared beside her, solid and realistic, and able to move independently of the original.

"My parents were exposed to radiation, and I guess it all stayed put until I came into the picture." Z shrugged, and without so much as a glance at her replica, it disappeared, like a digital image flickering out of view. "I'm not too sure on the science behind it, but I know I've been able to do this for most of my life. I can make a few at a time, but the fewer there are, the easier it is for me to work with them. Anyway, I want to try and see if I can make one on the other side of the barrier. It's worth a shot, right?"

That was fascinating, and it took Kerrigan a moment to place the memory it evoked. Anger and frustration, the hot, volcanic atmosphere of Char. Tassadar, who hadn't been there at all when she'd gone to kill him.

"I knew a Protoss- another aliens species- He did the same thing, or something very similar," Kerrigan said. Reaching out with her mind to feel if she could tell them apart.

"Do you see what it sees? Remember what it learns?" That was the important part here, and already Kerrigan was forming strategies and planning how best to make use of this woman and her surprising talent.

Protoss. Another species Z hadn't heard of. There was so much out there!

"Yeah. I used to use them when I was running away from-- people who wanted to hurt me and my friend." Z omitted the part about her thievery, not out if shame, but because it didn't seem like the sort if thing to mention to someone she didn't really know yet. Especially when that person ruled an entire nation, or a people, or any organized government. "I would send a few off in different directions to confuse people. I ran through different parts of town, and then I pulled the plug when my friend and I were safe." That had been fun, and something of a challenge. A game, almost. And it all felt like a world away from now. Literally.

If that was an uncommon ability, Z was lucky to be a police officer, and not a lab rat. She wasn't sure she bought the story about radiation, but the ability and its uses made sense to her. Kerrigan glanced towards the nearest edge of the cavern they were in, calculating.

"Give me time to scout the perimeter of the cavern. Try to gather some supplies for yourself. Food, weapons, whatever you need. I can track your replicas telepathically in their attempt to find the barrier. If it doesn't impede movement, and only telepathy, we'll be able to tell as soon as they cross it."

Luckily, SPD didn't operate that way. Z hadn't even thought about it, except in passing, on the streets, where some whispered that maybe disappearances were linked to secret experiments. It had seemed like too much of a conspiracy theory to Z to really entertain, though. There were more important things to think about at the time, just like there were now.

"I can see why you're your people's leader." Z smiled, nodding. "I don't know exactly how far they can go, but one or two at a time should be able to cover enough ground to start with. If I can get them to appear outside. I'm pretty sure we can reach the barrier without them." Though it might bf best to have a replica walk into it first, just to see if it would hurt or not. Knowing her luck, it probably would.

"Did you wake up with one of these?" Kerrigan asks, lifting the phone that she found beside her when she arrived. She was a bit leery of carrying around the strange technology, but for now she would tolerate it.

"I'll try to find something to make a map." Something material that could be held up and shown to people, instead of her memories and mental map that was slowly taking shape.

Z patted her hacket pockets until she found the one with the phone, then pulled out the phone and nodded. It's a lot like the ones she was used to seeing at home, which was a plus in this strange world.

"Good plan." That'd keep them from retracing their steps, if nothing else. She looked around at the... city, she guessed. All those buildings, and those spires in the distance, all seemed abandoned. "There might be stuff in all these empty buildings."

Kerrigan nodded. "My thoughts as well, though I have less need for supplies than a human would. Are you able to defend yourself right now? There are some unusual creatures here, and they're hostile." If she couldn't, Kerrigan wasn't going to allow someone with such a valuable ability to die.

True, she was law enforcement, but that was no guarantee she could operate without her gear.

Biological differences like that had made Z and Jack's old "job" easier. Or rather, it had taken some of the stress out of it, given they didn't have to steal as much as they would have otherwise. "I'll be okay for a day or two if I can't find anything before dark, and I can fight just fine. Just-- as long as this place doesn't have monsters roaming the streets at night." So far it seemed like there wasn't anything but other lost people coming out of the coliseum.
