Intro Log: DIY Survival

What: The intro log for July
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: July 10th-14th
Warnings: Who's that Pokémon?

You wake up on an alien planet. All around you are things that might be familiar- rocky ground, stone columns of a colosseum, overcast and dreary clouds above- but there's a lingering doubt in the back of your mind that you're not where you should be. Nearby, there are a dozen or so other people going through the same thing, so maybe you can stop and say hello... or, if you're more of an antisocial type, you might sneak away before anyone takes special notices of you.

Be careful of sneaking too far though, because you may run across an unfriendly Kabutops! From the Pokémon franchise, Kabutops is a prehistoric creature with scythes for hands that can cut through the water (and human flesh) like it's nothing. Its skin is rough and difficult to penetrate with basic weapons, and contrary to what anyone canon-savvy may expect, they are impossible to tame- so you might try to run while you can.

If you manage to escape from the pointy dinosaurs, you may find some hip new ways to accessorize! Strewn about the ground with the new arrivals are an assortment of bedazzlers in various states of functioning! They may only have two stars on Amazon, but Bedazzlers are a cultural landmark, easily used to bling up your lifestyle! Alongside the various equipment are, of course, various studs, gems, sequins, rhinestones, and anything else that you could possibly attach to some clothing or hand towels or curtains or underwear with a Bedazzler kit. Happy crafting!

If you've finished collecting all you need for your new home decoration, you can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

► This log covers July 10th-14th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

"Longer than a year?" Ugh. That deserves a long gulp, and she finishes off the rest of the cocktail, then slouches a little.

That little glimpse of home was weeks ago but it feels like yesterday. And yet it's all so far away that the pain is tangible. She will be driven mad by this city if she doesn't escape it soon.

"How long have you been running this, then?"
circumitus: (503): forewarning i'll probably have done those drugs with you (i wanna bring you to show and tell)

Rey takes only a second to do the mental math, add the days up, and she's got it.

"Sixteen months. Delight's bar got destroyed, and decided not to rebuild it. Just about dropped that shit on me."

Not that it sounds like she's complaining. This place has been the one thing helping her to retain her sanity, and she's not sure what else she would be doing without it. Helping the Guard all the time? No, she's happy to be keeping that at arm's length. Safer just to be on call.

"So a year and a half? Or just over," she says, nodding. The most common way a year is divided up, after all, is into ten months.

Her next question will have to wait, as she gets a sudden, odd rush of vertigo. The room just moved, she could swear it, though she didn't feel anything. It was purely visual. And it happened to coincide with a color change too, apparently - from hues of violet and turquoise to golds and ambers with a strand of blue floating through the middle of the room.

"Rey..." She blinks a little, shakes her head. Fuck the gods, once again, because her kind are all inherently and utterly immune to poisons - but she already knows they changed that months ago. "What did you put in this drink?"

"Just under," she corrects. Months must have different meanings to the other woman, though.

Seeing Caedra tripping out a little, all that goes out of Rey's concerns as she watches how the effects of the ingredient take hold. Did she use too much? (Or too little, as far as dealing with Caedra is concerned. No, putting herself on the bad side of a demon is an equally terrible idea.)

She just watches, not moving to help Caedra, who is more than capable of handling herself. "Nothing toxic. Well, not in tiny doses, and the fire's supposed to cleanse it out, anyway."
abyssalarcana: (even now you mark my steps)

[personal profile] abyssalarcana 2018-07-11 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Supposed to," she repeats. Yes, she can more than handle herself. As long as this doesn't get worse, it could almost be pleasant. She's been on far more intense trips before, after all. If it does somehow cause actual problems, well. Caedra still imagines Rey will be in for the worse time, ultimately.

"Make one for yourself. See how it goes," she suggests, as she grips the bar as if it will somehow help stabilize her vision.
circumitus: but we veto-ed that idea somewhere between "this is the stupidest thing we've ever done" and "let's order a pizza" (we were going to warn you...)

Oh, this is funny. Rey knows the effects the chemicals might have on humans, but she wasn't sure it would be potent enough for fucking demons. She actually laughs this time at the suggestion.

"Too bad it won't have any effect on me. Immune. Interesting that you're feeling it, though. What's it like?"

It's good. For science. At least it won't get much worse than the psyched out colors for Caedra, but Rey doesn't know yet.

A demon who, sadly, is not in possession of her full range of immunities. She watches Rey with deepening bitterness. Of course, the construct gets to remain whole. While Caedra - the thieving gods stole her, and now they steal parts of her too. And they will probably continue to do so until they think she has nothing with which to fight back. But they will learn. She will always fight them.

She closes her eyes, trying to decide whether it's even worth responding to Rey's question. "Just colors. Colors and motion. A minor annoyance, nothing more."
circumitus: nope. nopenopenope. nopenope. nope. (cookies need love like everything does)

If it's one good thing that she got from her father, it's the immortal cells that are quick to eliminate any toxins and infections. That includes getting sick, for the most part.

The shitty deal is that it often takes Rey three times the amount of alcohol if she's ever going to be getting drunk. She's still working on finding something strong enough.

"Really? Colors as in... the psychedelic sort, or 'shit that doesn't and should never exist' colors?" She will try to mask her amusement. God, why didn't she try this at home?
abyssalarcana: (terrible fire of old regret)

[personal profile] abyssalarcana 2018-07-11 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Psy-... what? They're just colors. Very vivid. Not real. They move, a little," she replies, as she opens her eyes again to see what's going on with them now. Thankfully, they're already beginning to fade. Either that or they're temporarily similar to reality and could spring back at any moment, but for once she's allowing herself a bit of optimism.

"Had I expected it, it could actually be nice. Lie down, look at the sky, watch the colors, you know? A pleasant waste of time."
circumitus: I CAN QUIT ANY FUCKING TIME I WANT. (i'm not drunk YOU'RE drunk)

[personal profile] circumitus 2018-07-11 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Pleasant, huh?"

At least it's not a traumatic experience. Rey might not care what it does for Caedra, but she'd rather not see people tripping balls all over her bar. So long as it doesn't make the demon violent, they're in business.

Rey flips the bottle of red-black liquid into her hand as she examines the contents. "Might need to adjust the measurements for next time. Didn't think samandrine would have a hallucinatory effect that bad, but it's a work in progress."

She's a rudimentary chemist at best.

"Never heard of it. The drink tastes good, though, certainly. Well done there."

Certainly nicer than plenty she's had here. It's a shame she can't get her favorites from home, but it isn't exactly a surprise. Most of those can't even be found easily in Arneth, as she recalls. Perhaps the City of Circles has a few bottles floating around but it's been several years since she visited so who is to say. Their glassmilk though is excellent, she remembers that much.

Caedra probably wouldn't have ever heard of samandrine. Far as Rey knows, there's nothing else in her own world to produce substance like it. She'd rather keep it that way, given what it does.

"Good to know." If there are any adverse effects, would Caedra even risk letting Rey know? Maybe not. "Are there many types of drinks they have in your world that we can't get here?"

She muses out loud. There are likely a lot, aren't there.

"Of course there are. Or if they could be obtained here, I don't know enough about how they're made to make suggestions, and there are far too many to name anyway."

Mostly, she suspects the ingredients are too far out of reach. There's no tega berries to make giftmouth here, for example, and dragons keep the secret of their firewine close to their hoards. The amaro she was gifted by Iria one year, infused with Ironhold's sutelu flowers - that's certainly not going to be replicated any time soon in Hadriel.

It's not at all a surprising answer, but these things always spark Rey's curiosity anyway. She's sure that it has something to do with a few of her previous selves, which leaned towards more than just gruntwork. Sheridan always wanted to know more about people, for instance.

"Just find it interesting how worlds can be so different but have similar things at the same time. Like things in my world that none other have, and vice versa. Some have managed to get things only native to their worlds to grow here as well."

Such as Carlisle's garden and Cecily's elfroot.

"It's normal enough. Some worlds have trade between them, so that helps things spread around. And of course every place has things unique to it."

That's what keeps the planes so interesting, after all. And this conversation is beginning to bore her, now that she's had her drink. She pushes her empty glass in Rey's direction and slides off the stool, still seeing colors swimming in her vision.

"All to be expected. Anyway, have fun getting your visitors high, it's a fun trick."
