The morning of April 15th in Hadriel is cheerful, with artificial light streaming through your window. Your blankets are warm, jabberjays are shrieking, and you're probably going to experience a murder attempt today.
Maybe it'll be from a stranger, maybe it'll be from a friend, but the bottom line is that everybody is after somebody and nobody is safe (...okay, twelve people are safe, but that's beside the point). Time will only tell when you'll be overcome by that murderous rage and try to kill someone else. The best thing you can probably do at this point is stay calm, keep your head high, and try not to die for the next eight days.
Helpfully, Rage will have restocked her armory for the event, for those of you have yet to arm themselves. Additionally, for a limited time only, the armory will be stocked with bear traps, tripwire (in both 'general wire' and 'barbed wire' flavor), and voice recorders. Use all of them, use none of them, just get on out there and kill each other!
Oh, and one last thing...► This log covers April 15th-23rd.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► Did your assassin catch up to you? Please remember to hit up our death post!

So she leaps away from the explosion, screaming bloody murder. The blast is strong enough that it knocks her further away than she could've jumped by herself, and hot enough that she's probably sustained a few burns on her arm. She'll check later, though. For now, it's a little more important to fucking make it out of this alive.
Which is hard when she's on the ground and she hurts from the fall and te blast this asshole shot at her and this primal fear is pumping through her with every loud, thudding heartbeat.]
Stay away!!
[Oh god, she doesn't want to die like this.]

The alien takes on sure step forward, then another, until he is positioned between Emily and Dorian. At that point he extends one arm out to the side; the limb appears to liquefy strangely, shifting shape until it has re-solidified into a long and sharp blade. He doesn't level it at Dorian yet--he'd really rather resolve this peacefully if at all possible--but the threat is there if the man decides he wants to do this the hard way.]
Leave the girl alone. [The alien's voice is low but firm, as he levels a glare Dorian's way.] No one has to get hurt.

[It's strange, though, and it gives Dorian pause. He doesn't understand why he feels no ill will toward Glacius, despite the fact that he stands between Dorian and his target. The creature is odd, to be sure, like an ice elemental or a demon or something of the sort, but Dorian has no real desire to hurt him - what reason would there be?
But the girl. The girl, he needs to destroy, for the sake of all of them. And he doesn't understand why, and that bothers him, because Dorian is a scholar and a researcher and he wants the answer to things.]
She can't be left alive. She's a danger.
[He says the words like he's testing them out, like he's not sure, because he isn't anymore.]

... But Dorian's accusations do give him pause. He doesn't take his eyes off the scholar, not for one second, but he doesn't advance either. He doesn't know either of these individuals... and Emily may not look terribly dangerous, but he know that appearances are not everything. He cannot take sides when he has no bearing on either of these people's affairs.] How? Who does she endanger? If she is a threat, why does she not defend herself? All I see is you attempting to prey on the innocent.

She doesn't know what she's going to do, what she can bring to the table between an ice monster and a man who shoots fire, but she has to try.
That's her thing lately: she has to try.
In moments, she's by Emily's side, kneeling, fingers grasping onto the other girl's jacket. There are burns, Ashley can see them, and her stomach flips with fear and worry and panic. They have to get away. She loops an arm carefully under Emily's armpit, ready to carry her away if she has to. ]
Come on!
no subject
Please don't let him hurt me!
[It's high-pitched and desperate, and it's just out of her mouth when Ashley kneels beside her. Emily jumps a little at the unexpected sight, and if not for the fact that there is imminent fucking danger right in front of her, Emily would relax.]
Oh god--!
[She scrambles to her feet, clinging to Ashley, taking a few unsteady steps back as she keeps her eyes locked on the guy who attacked her out of fucking nowhere.]

But in the normal course of things, wouldn't he classify Emily that way, too? Then why does he feel so strongly that she is a threat? She's done nothing that he knows of, but Dorian is sure - absolutely certain - that she should be killed. For the good of them all, the good of the city itself.]
I would never prey on the innocent. Think what you will of me, but that is not the sort of man I am.
[Dorian sounds troubled now, and he doesn't move to attack. He wants to, he thinks it's necessary, but why?]
Do you not see the threat she poses?
[It's not a rhetorical question. If no one else can see it, the fault is with Dorian.]

[Glacius glowers for a moment more, but then his eyes drop to the blade he has shaped his limb into. He's not really giving Dorian a lot of incentive not to incite conflict, here... perhaps he should set an example. Heaving a sigh, the alien's art liquefies and then reverts to its natural form, and he looks to Dorian again.] If you would not prey on the innocent, then prove it. Show me that my perception of you is wrong.

Dorian is an intelligent man. He cannot control how he feels, but he can at least see that there is something off about it, something abnormal.
He rubs his temple with two fingers. It doesn't make any sense. None of it.]
Get her out of here, if you would, and I will leave as well. I cannot promise that I will be able to stop myself again. I don't understand what's caused this, but -
[He shakes his head, sudden, frustrated.]
I believe she is a threat, but I don't know why. The gods playing tricks again, perhaps.

Come on, Ash, let's go inside--
[The gods? Oh, of fucking course it's the gods. At the moment, Emily is too scared from this brush with death to be properly angry, so she just keeps backing up towards the house, her hold on Ashley tightening with every step. As soon as she feels brave enough, she'll dash into the house, dragging Ashley with her if she has to.]

I do not know what is going on, but... thank you for being reasonable.
[With that he's going to depart. If this really is the work of the gods, he doesn't want Dorian to be turned against him next. For now it seems best to give the man his space, too.]
