The morning of April 15th in Hadriel is cheerful, with artificial light streaming through your window. Your blankets are warm, jabberjays are shrieking, and you're probably going to experience a murder attempt today.
Maybe it'll be from a stranger, maybe it'll be from a friend, but the bottom line is that everybody is after somebody and nobody is safe (...okay, twelve people are safe, but that's beside the point). Time will only tell when you'll be overcome by that murderous rage and try to kill someone else. The best thing you can probably do at this point is stay calm, keep your head high, and try not to die for the next eight days.
Helpfully, Rage will have restocked her armory for the event, for those of you have yet to arm themselves. Additionally, for a limited time only, the armory will be stocked with bear traps, tripwire (in both 'general wire' and 'barbed wire' flavor), and voice recorders. Use all of them, use none of them, just get on out there and kill each other!
Oh, and one last thing...► This log covers April 15th-23rd.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► Did your assassin catch up to you? Please remember to hit up our death post!

You're just defending him because he's a nerd.
[Except Rhys is so much fucking nerdier, and it's infuriating.]
no subject
[Just putting that out there. Also he's decided as much as this all makes him super uneasy he's probably fine to step into the kitchen; he doesn't head for the cabinets right away though, more curious about all the stuff Emily has collected on the table.]
So um... I'm guessing there's a reason behind all this. Like specifically.
[Rather than just trying to be scary in general.]
no subject
At his question, she looks at her makeup, the surgical mask lying by it, the mirror she was looking into before he came in.]
I'm going all out, obviously. Why half-ass this?
[Looking up at him again, she shrugs.]
You know the legend, right? The slit-mouthed woman?
no subject
Uh... Vaguely.
[It sounds familiar, and he feels like he's probably read about it on one of his late-night wikipedia binges or excursions onto /x/ and /nosleep, but he doesn't remember any details.]
no subject
[Said as she goes back to doing her makeup.]
For a while there were actual reported cases and sightings. Scary shit.
no subject
[It's half a response and half muttered to himself, putting the tea kettle on the freaky alien stove.]
But... Em, come on, you know this is some sort of god-related shit. There's no reason to terrorize Rhys, let alone like, actually hurt him.
[He's not betting much on his ability to convince Emily to give up on her plan, but he does have to try. As her friend, and as Rhys' too.
Speaking of Rhys, he should probably give him a heads-up.]
no subject
His face makes me angry.
[As if that's a perfectly good reason, right?]
no subject
[Maybe if it's clear to Emily how ridiculous it sounds, she'll decide not to do it? Doubtful, but still.]
Are you really gonna like... Give the gods what they want just because someone's face makes you mad?
no subject
[That's a trick question, because she would. She's done it a lot, actually, always because she's getting something out of it too. That's why Rage's little trick works so well, because there's built-in satisfaction. Really, Emily should be mad at Rage for fucking with her, but it's too well-designed a plan.
And Emily can't shake that impulse. She's at least got to kick Rhys in the balls.]
no subject
[The answer he wants to give is yes, considering that's the whole point about the gods influencing her, not to mention more minor things. But she's also Emily, and responding with that answer wouldn't be the smartest idea even when she wasn't dressed up like an avenging ghost from an urban legend and planning on killing someone.]
I'm just saying that like... I think you'd end up regretting it. A lot.
no subject
[See: the prank. See also: being a massive bitch to Matt. See also: things she's not going to bring up.]
I at least want to kick his ass. [That could be enough! It... it totally could be.]
no subject
[Then that's at least better than nothing. Sorry Rhys.]
no subject
Still, murder is kind of extreme. It's just--]
I'll try. Don't know if I'll be able to, though. [She shrugs, filling in a little of the outline on her right cheek.] I'm kind of hoping he'll try and outrun me when he sees me like this.
[Because she is going to chase him. Hard. Wrath may be her favorite deadly sin. Possibly. Pride is a strong contender.]
no subject
[She'd resisted the wendigo instincts; surely she could keep her temper under control, even if it's influenced by Rage. He watches her apply the makeup for a moment--it'd be cool if it weren't so unnerving--and then turns back to the stove to check on the kettle. He's left the top off it so he can see if it boils rather than relying on the whistle, not in the mood to be startled by high pitched noises.
The water looks done so he pulls it off the burner, then glances back at Emily.]
You'll probably get that wish. I know I'd run if I saw you coming at me in that whole getup.
[If he didn't know her, anyway. Maybe even if he did.]
Though I'd probably like, trip over my feet after two steps, so it might not be super satisfying.
[And honestly Rhys might do the same thing, though he hopes not.]
no subject
Even in the moments of clarity that come now and then, usually when someone tries to reason with her, it's nigh impossible to shake.]
I can't believe this is when you choose to believe in me. Not, like, when I went to get help after you thought the psycho killed Josh.
[It's a weird fucking life where they can just ... refer to shit like that. Where the hell did they go wrong.]
He better not trip.
[And that's all she'll say to that, because the rest is implied. She just knows she'll pounce on him if he does, and that's... as angry as even the thought of him makes her, she really doesn't want to outright kill him.]
no subject
[As flatly sarcastic as it is there isn't any bite behind it; it's just the proper bantering response. Like Emily he distantly realizes just how strange it is that this is something they would have to talk about, let alone so casually, but... That's just how their lives are now.
He doesn't actually even remember the details of the conversation; it's one of those things that happened that night that he only knows the gist of, that he and Ashley had decided to go back to the Lodge after Sam and Emily and Matt had gone to the fire tower. It probably shouldn't be much of a surprise, since he'd been so in shock in the time, but missing pieces does make it difficult to discuss them.
Not that the rest of the conversation is much better.]
Hopefully you won't even run into him at all. If he's smart he'll be like, hiding inside.
[Hopefully Rhys is smart enough to do that this week.]
no subject
You hurt my feelings, Chris. That's not something you just forget.
[For all that she spent most of that night scared almost out of her wits, Emily remembers all of it. She has a mind for details, and a memory to kill for come finals season. In this case, though, she hates it. Beth's clouded-over eyes still haunt her dreams, as does the sharp sting of the wendigo's teeth as they tore into her flesh, and the thudding of her heartbeat as she curled into a ball in the basement and peeaked out from the shadows at the barrel of the gun Mike pointed right at her.
She wants to forget, but she'll never be able to. So yeah, something small like Chris telling her all she wanted was to save herself is an easy memory to have, one that stings a little, but no more than anything from her life before the prank.]
"If he's smart." [She scoffs.] Nice one.
no subject
[He's still playing along with the joking, though he realizes a little late that maybe he should be? She doesn't seem to be super serious, but he's definitely running the risk of being cavalier about something that actually did hurt her feelings.
Chris sighs at her last comment, really hoping that this whole event is going to be over soon. Maybe it'll end before she even finds Rhys, and that'll spare everyone a lot of trouble.]
Hey, he was smart enough to stay inside for a lot of the other events, so...
no subject
Nope, not going there. She focuses on her make-up for a moment and lets the subject drop. There's more pertinent shit to be talking about.]
I want to hope he'll stay inside, but... I wanna kick his ass, too. Fuck this.
no subject
I know. It'll pass eventually though, just like everything else has.
[It better, anyway. And he just keeps waiting to see someone and instantly want to kill them, or have someone attack him for no reason, but it hasn't happened yet and maybe he'll get lucky and the whole thing will end before it does.]
no subject
Hey, nerdbrain. Question: do you think I'm pretty?
[Maybe joking around will take the edge off this murderous rage.]
no subject
I think you look terrifying. Would that get me stabbed, or what?
no subject
If I were really Kuchisake Onna, you'd be so fucked right now.
[Brutal, bloody murder, pretty much.]
no subject
If you were the real... Ghost lady whose name I would mangle, I would probably just be frozen in terror instead of saying stupid shit.
[A pause.]
What's supposed to happen if you don't answer, anyway?
no subject
You know, there's like, a ton of things you could say to get away from her, but nobody mentions saying nothing. She'd probably just get impatient with you and kill you anyway, though. Like, how dare you ignore her, do you think you're better than her or something?
[Oooh that's good, she's going to keep that in mind in case Rhys tries to get away with not answering.]
