The morning of April 15th in Hadriel is cheerful, with artificial light streaming through your window. Your blankets are warm, jabberjays are shrieking, and you're probably going to experience a murder attempt today.
Maybe it'll be from a stranger, maybe it'll be from a friend, but the bottom line is that everybody is after somebody and nobody is safe (...okay, twelve people are safe, but that's beside the point). Time will only tell when you'll be overcome by that murderous rage and try to kill someone else. The best thing you can probably do at this point is stay calm, keep your head high, and try not to die for the next eight days.
Helpfully, Rage will have restocked her armory for the event, for those of you have yet to arm themselves. Additionally, for a limited time only, the armory will be stocked with bear traps, tripwire (in both 'general wire' and 'barbed wire' flavor), and voice recorders. Use all of them, use none of them, just get on out there and kill each other!
Oh, and one last thing...► This log covers April 15th-23rd.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► Did your assassin catch up to you? Please remember to hit up our death post!

That, and only that, has him prepared enough to move, to step around that strike, and draw his sword in the same moment. Even at that, he's aware of the strength behind the blow, feeling the air move passed his body. He steps back, instinctively putting space - and his sword - between them, and fixing his opponent with a hard stare.
He has never even seen him before. ]
What's your quarrel with me, stranger?
[ His voice is loud, and it carries. He doesn't look remotely afraid, though he's certainly wary. This man does not look strong, but the blow he'd tried to land certainly had been. ]
I suck at fight scenes, please forgive me. ;n;
He didn't have an answer. There was no real answer. Coming up with one would mean having all parts of his mind present and rational, but everything was mixed up and miss placed. He was fixed on only one thing which was fighting this guy and taking him out.
He also didn't look afraid even though he himself was clearly unarmed and without any sort of armor.]
Fight me.
[He only gave those few words of warning before moving in again quickly attempting to separate the warrior from his weapon.]

Why? I've no quarrel with you. Stop this, and leave with your life.
[ Few who face Damen in genuine battle ever live to walk away from it. He's taken on multiple men at once and barely broken a sweat. The presence of one unarmed, clearly deranged young man is not enough to worry at his confidence, no matter how strong or fast said man appears.
That said, if a fight is what he's after, he'll have one. Damen won't run away from an honest challenge, even if this seems ridiculous to him. ]
I have no wish to kill an unarmed man. Stand down, and we'll forget this started.

Hakkai didn't answer at all this time. He wasn't in his right mind and he had no thoughts of stopping. Normally Hakkai would go easy on a human opponent if he had to go against one. (Save for those with extreme supernatural powers to where he would have been destroyed if he didn't fight all out.) He didn't like hurting humans unless absolutely necessary because normally it wasn't humans attacking him and his comrades, it was the hoards of demons. But this time, he was treating this stranger as if he were a demon.
Which was why right then, after putting a bit of distance between them, he was charging up a shining light in between the palms of his hands.
Hakkai didn't need weapons because he is a weapon.]

Finally, the man peels back.
Stop this! I am not your enemy.
[ But it's not the respite it had seemed. Something strange happens; a light forming, glowing, held between hands that don't even touch it.
Damen's instincts ping warnings at him. Whatever that energy is, it's an unknown quantity. Out of breath, he holds up his hand. ]
Stop! Put it down. [ Does it even go down? It had appeared from nowhere. ] There's no need for this!
no subject
Unfortunately, he still did not put it down.
Instead, he sent it flying towards the man like shooting a canon ball made of concentrated life energy. It was fast, but not downright impossible to block with a shield or dodge quickly if one dove out of the way. The moment of hesitation slowed down the speed from how fast he normally launches it. However, that didn't make it any less deadly.
The ball of light could be seen breaking apart the rubble that was scattered along the streets and kicking up the dirt to make clouds of dust that trailed right for Damen.
He watched it with cold eyes as the ball hurled its way to his opponent, waiting for it to connect.]
lmk if this isn't the right reaction!
The ball explodes against his shield, splintering a crack straight down the middle, and throwing Damen off his feet. He's tossed back through rubble and stones that scrape at his armour and tear at the skin of his arms. Every one of his instincts is now primed, and any thought of talking his way out of this leaves his mind. He gets hurriedly back to his feet, dropping the shield while breaks in half along the crack. If that orb had hit Damen face on it would have killed him.
He's unsteady. Needing thinking time, he throws his spear with all his strength and with deadly accuracy, aimed at Hakkai's heart. He will need to either be faster or stronger than it. Either way, Damen draws his sword, free now to wield it with both hands.
He doesn't try to talk. If this...whatever he is, wants a fight so badly, he'll have one. Damen charges for him, meaning to run him through. ]
It's perfect!
Then here came the spear. That was no big deal, really. All he had to do was throw up his qi-barrier and the spear would snap against it. That was just fine.
But then came the person that threw it barreling towards him with an impressive speed. His qi-barrier drained energy from him, so he couldn't hold it against a persistent person for very long at all, so he had to think quickly. Quicker than the man that was coming for him.
He could try knocking the sword downwards so that it would push him off balance, but this man was strong--
Too late! It was time to act. Hakkai spins around the blade quickly, getting a deep gash cut into his arm. His body moves closely alongside Damen's as he moves to get behind him but not before aiming to stab the larger man's ribs with his elbow.]

He doesn't intend on testing it. At once he switches his position, so that his left side will do more work than his right, and he attacks again. His sword swings for Hakkai, this time trying to judge his speed. ]
You're stronger than you look. Stranger, too.
[ Another swipe with his sword. Another attempt to close the distance again. ]
This ends now!
[ He drives upwards with his blade, trying to catch Hakkai off guard, and knowing that the longer this goes on, the harder it will be for him. ]

He jumps back from the swings of the blade, but keeping the distance as close as he can so that he can get back into range to strike with his body. He moves with the air coming from the powerful and speedy attack, narrowly dodging them. A bead of sweat escaped his green headband and rolled down the side of his face.
When the blade come with an upwards strike, he jumps up and over Damen's head whilst charging a qicanon in his hand. This one is weaker than his first since he doesn't want to drain himself of his own energy. It's smaller and not as bright, but it's made for a precise strike rather than an obliterating kill.
He aimed it for the back of Damen's armor, wanting to weaken it so that he can go in for a clean strike to finish him off.]

It cracks off the building anyway, whiting out his vision and sending a hot stream of blood rolling down his neck. Dazed, he falls, and feels darkness tugging at the edges of his vision. Desperately, Damen tries to stay awake, knowing that if he can't manage it, these will be his last moments.
He tries to struggle back to his feet, while stars swim before his eyes.
One more hit will send him into the dark. ]
Let me know if this is okay!
He neared him quickly, his hands preparing themselves for whatever he was going to do. He was going to destroy this human. His hand came flying out, ready to latch onto the man's neck and snap it neatly out of place, but he didn't.
He struck him right at the base of his skull to simply knock him out because it wasn't what he wanted.
The quiet voice in the back of his mind was finally able to amplify itself to force him to pull back. This man was a human, an innocent human. Heavily armed and extremely battle savvy, but still innocent all the same. He was finished with his uncontrollable murderous rage. No more. That wasn't him anymore and he couldn't go back.
Hakkai was panting, sweat soaking into his green headband partly from the battle here and the one that happened in his mind for him to regain control of himself. It was like he could see ten times clearer now instead of in a dizzying haze of unreasonable hatred.
And gods did he feel like scum of the earth.
Instead of leaving the unconscious body here because, surely, he wasn't the only one that was going completely off of his leash, he went over to the man to assess his wounds.
He checked his pulse and his breathing and looked him over to make sure it would be okay to move him. This was a very large man and he was going to have a slightly difficult time gently moving him to some place safer, if there was one.
He gingerly hooked his elbows underneath his arms and started pulling him into the nearest building. He wondered if he should stay, but no. Not only would that be completely awkward when the man came to, but it would also be insulting. No warrior wants their wounds licked by the one that beat them.
So he turned him over onto his side in case he woke up nauseous and needed to vomit and left him there.]
np!
He’s unaware of being moved, for now. Later, when he wakes, this part will confuse him more than anything else. He won’t be able to understand why Hakkai didn’t finish it. But that’s a future concern. For now, he’s out for the count. ]
