The morning of April 15th in Hadriel is cheerful, with artificial light streaming through your window. Your blankets are warm, jabberjays are shrieking, and you're probably going to experience a murder attempt today.
Maybe it'll be from a stranger, maybe it'll be from a friend, but the bottom line is that everybody is after somebody and nobody is safe (...okay, twelve people are safe, but that's beside the point). Time will only tell when you'll be overcome by that murderous rage and try to kill someone else. The best thing you can probably do at this point is stay calm, keep your head high, and try not to die for the next eight days.
Helpfully, Rage will have restocked her armory for the event, for those of you have yet to arm themselves. Additionally, for a limited time only, the armory will be stocked with bear traps, tripwire (in both 'general wire' and 'barbed wire' flavor), and voice recorders. Use all of them, use none of them, just get on out there and kill each other!
Oh, and one last thing...► This log covers April 15th-23rd.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► Did your assassin catch up to you? Please remember to hit up our death post!

There's nothing for it now.
She's glad that Lilith is here, anyway.] You'll be okay, Chris.

[Not a lie. Chris is at least holding it together, which is more than she could say for a lot of other people she's seen with broken kneecaps. (LIlith has... broken her share of kneecaps, to be perfectly honest.)]
You're gonna want to chill for a bit while you get used to the way the brace feels. I can't phase while holding somebody, so, um... Chances are, you're gonna be leaning on me and limping back unless I can find somebody else to help.
[she turns back to Maketh:]
I can carry you back while he's resting. If you want.
no subject
[It's a weak joke as he opens one eye, as if testing that it's safe to open the other before doing so. If he holds really still the pain is manageable and if there's one thing he's gotten really good at in the whole wendigo ordeal it's holding still.
Besides, he isn't the one who nearly died, so he's going to try not to complain or make anyone worry any more than they already are. He takes a deep breath and nods at Lilith's words; not great news, but far better than having to figure out some way home alone.]
Got it. I can do that.
[He tries to project more calm and confidence than he feels, offering both Lilith and Maketh a faint attempt at a smile and then nodding again at Lilith's suggestion. She should definitely get Maketh out of here first, so she can start trying to recover.]
no subject
She takes a slow breath, nodding just once. She doesn't enjoy being carried, but knows logically that she's in no shape to walk. Things are what they are.] Put him behind the bar. There's some cover and no one will see you from the outside...
[It's not enough. It's not. But it's better than leaving Chris out in the open.]
no subject
[The shelter that the bar provides him minimal, but it'll have to do. Beggars can't be choosers, particularly not when it's a few extra moments of safety on the line. Lilith takes pains to mind his knee and set him down, before returning to kneel beside Maketh.
She hadn't given a damn for Nick's comfort-- Rage or not, this was still kind of on her-- and she was out of commission, anyway. But Maketh... Lilith can't put any more stress on that shoulder or she'll wreck whatever her healing kit had just done. She wipes a smudge of Nick's blood from her cheek, brow furrowed in thought.]
If you can't hang on with that [that being her shoulder, which Lilith gestures to with an incline of her head] on my back, I can just carry you in my arms. It won't be for that long.
no subject
[The nausea's fading a bit, though it comes right back when he stands up with Lilith's help; still, between Lilith's support and the bar itself the whole thing could go worse and soon he's out of sight behind the bar. Although he doesn't think he's in a whole lot of danger--as far as he knows no one's after him--it still doesn't hurt to be safe.
So he'll just take a moment while Lilith deals with getting Maketh somewhere to rest, deciding to work on getting some of the blood off his hands--and his phone--by wiping them on his jeans while that goes on.]
no subject
Chris will be all right. He has to be.
Maketh exhales slowly.]
You'll have to carry me.
[Not just because of the pain - Maketh thinks she could ignore most of that if she tries - but because her hand has stopped cooperating. She can't make a proper fist or curl her fingers. She won't be holding onto anything for a while with that hand.]
no subject
Lilith gets to her feet, and after a moment of adjustment, takes a step forward. Maketh seems to be fine too. So far, so good.]
Chris-- I'll be back real soon. If anything happens, just call me, okay?
[Deliberate step by step, Lilith leaves the bar with Maketh in her arms.]
no subject
[He tries to project some confidence in his voice, but about all he can manage is to not stammer. Now that the immediate crisis is over he's exhausted and shaken and everything that's just happened is really settling in, and despite that he'd rather be almost anywhere but hiding behind a bar he's also really glad he's going to have a few minutes alone. It'll give him some time to try to keep his composure.
But first--]
Be careful.
[The last thing they need is to be attacked on the way to wherever they're going. Chris would offer the same as Lilith--that they should call if they need help--but he's kind of useless at the moment.]
no subject
Damn. The circuit to the clinic and back has worn her out more than she'd assumed it would. Guess that fight had taken more out of her than she thought.]
'Sup. [Lilith says with a sigh, turning her head to Chris. She grins sheepishly.]
You want something back here before we head off? [She jabs a thumb at the wall of drinks they're currently leaning against.] Could help. Shit. I know it's gonna help me after today.
no subject
He offers a tiny wave of his fingers in greeting when she sits down, even if he can't manage a smile; in fact he's pretty concerned, or would be if he could feel much more than numb exhaustion.]
N-No, um... I-I'm good. But yeah, definitely uh... H-Help yourself.
[He's silent another moment before speaking again.]
Is um... I-Is Maketh okay?
[Or whatever passes for okay right now.]
no subject
[She has no idea what she grabs-- she could be drinking cleaning fluid for all she cares right now-- but whatever it is, the fluid's a thick amber and she takes a quick swig without looking at the label. Lilith exhales and leans back against the shelf.] Goddamn.
[Eyes falling shut, she quietly breathes through the moment of silence; as Chris speaks up again, she nods rather easily.]
Yeah... yeah. I left her at the clinic, that chick with the pink hair's taking care of her. [nearly as an afterthought, she adds--] Her and Nick.
no subject
This is good. Really, really good, and he wishes he could really feel that but he's just too shaken and tired to feel much at all.]
Okay. Great.
[He's quiet a moment, then opens his eyes again and looks over at her.]
Um... Thanks. For... Geez, everything; I-I don't know what we would've done.
no subject
[She doesn't want to think about how close that would've been. Even if they get resurrected in the end, Maketh dying for something like this isn't worth it.]
I wish I would've gotten here sooner. I'm just glad you're both alive.
no subject
Thanks, but I um... I-I screwed up. I-I thought maybe I could talk Nick out of attacking--we're friends--but with the event a-and her being mad at me about something else it just...
[It didn't work, and he's had all this time he could've acted and prevented Maketh--and therefore himself too--from being attacked at all. Instead he waited, and it's a miracle his mistake didn't get anyone killed like it had last time.
He doesn't understand how he keeps ending up in these situations, and how he keeps making the wrong choices.]
no subject
[She's made her share of fuck-ups, too, and this? This was not nearly as bad as Chris believes it was. No one died-- that's the important part.]
Nobody gets it right the first time, you know? This was a screwed-up situation all around. You did fine, kid. I promise. You just need to rest.
no subject
But he nods, taking a deep breath and trying to shove the guilt to the back of his mind. He pulls off his glasses a moment to rub his eyes--he has a headache, which is totally not a surprise--before putting them back on and looking over at Lilith.]
Yeah. Yeah, you're right. Rest uh... Sounds like a really good idea. For both of us.
[He's pretty sure she needs some too.]
no subject
God, she remembers when she felt this guilty about things. It's been years. Chris still has a lot to learn.]
C'mon. I'll help you up. [She manages to get to her feet, then bends down again, putting an arm around Chris' shoulders.] You ready?
no subject
[But he gives a weak smile to make it clear it's a joke, putting his arm over her shoulders in return and reaching out to the counter with his other. At least he's pretty used to limping around already so he doesn't have to figure that part out, just deal with how much it hurts.]
no subject
[Lilith gives him a moment or two to adjust to standing, fully allowing him to put his weight on her, before she takes a tentative step forward. It'll take a while to get them to the clinic, but hey, they'll get there soon.]
no subject
W-Wait, Lilith, my gun is... Somewhere.
[He needs that; they don't have any other weapons at home. He just doesn't know exactly where it went in all the chaos, because he's pretty sure he dropped it somewhere in the middle of the floor in a rush to help Maketh.]
