1/ open/ who should i meet, who should i call?
Who: Serah & anyone, everyone!
What: Serah tries to get to Guard HQ. It isn't as easy as it sounds.
Where: North Island shores
When: Before Tranquility's post.
Warnings: Nothing at the moment
( Growing up on Bodhum's shores did teach her a thing or two about sailing, but navigating the waters in Cocoon is a vastly, vastly different thing to the wild seas of Hadriel's current planet. The Fal'Cie controlled everything on Cocoon, dictated the waves and the sun, and the currents were mild, it was easy to rent a boat and row out for a few hours.
Here, the sea does as she pleases, the winds curve and curl as they want to, and she's merely their pawn as she travels to the north island, to the guard HQ for a chance to practice her skills and speak to other staff. In all honesty, Serah doesn't so much dock on the shore as she does crash into it, nearly flung forward with the force it hits the rocks, grunting and grimacing before - very delicately - picking herself out of the boat and surveying the damage. )
... Great.
( Decidedly not great. There's a crack in the side where it hit the rocks, and she hates the idea of letting the boat go to waste due to her own mistakes. )
( ooc: if you wanna do something with Serah but this starter doesn't work, feel free to assume your character caught her at / on the way to Guard HQ, in the training grounds, or message me at
forethought / nico#8071 to work something out! )

before setting sail!
It's different from Jabberwock; it's overcast here pretty consistently, and the waves seem to twist and turn at odd intervals. And he can't quite call it a beach itself, not with how there's rocks as far as the eye can see rather than sand. But what he doesn't expect is a girl and a boat.]
Hey...! [He calls out, and though Hinata isn't especially far away, cups his hands a bit so his voice will carry.] Are you really planning on taking that boat out there? Where are you heading?
[And is it safe?]
no subject
She's in the midst of untying a boat when an unfamiliar voice is carried across in the breeze and Serah turns around, straightening up but not letting go of the rope that keeps the boat from bobbing off to sea, waving with her other hand. )
Uh-huh. ( She doesn't seem too concerned about it. ) I need to get to the north island.
( A pause, and then; ) Are you new?
( She's just guessing; after all, people would know this by now if they weren't... right? )
no subject
[But he finds himself approaching, even if just a bit. She seems... almost entirely unconcerned about the state of the waves. Perhaps she's just gotten used to it? But it's very curious.]
Is there something important on the northern island?
no subject
( Like her house, for example. But that's not where she's heading now, and once he makes his next comment, Serah nods. )
The guard headquarters. And the armoury.
( Both of which she needs to visit sometime soon. She's running low on arrows, but mostly, she wants to see if she's missing any important news at the HQ. )
no subject
[A shame there aren't any bridges, like Jabberwock, but he doubts anybody would be up for any construction projects under these kind of circumstances. And the islands could be farther apart, besides; he's seen the map, but it doesn't really mark the actual distance between everything.]
But the guard HQ and the armory, huh... [An idea presents itself. He could be off, but it seems like a reasonable guess to make.] Does that mean you're part of the guard?
no subject
And then another. ) Uh-huh. We help with the monsters in the Colosseum.
( Since that's the main problem now, with them all crowding into one island. )
no subject
And that was when he'd seen the boat. Oh, Ianchus could see maritime calamity coming, and this had everything lined up for a fantastic disaster. He grimaces as the boat slams into the rocks with a painful crack.]
Ah!
Picking his way over the rocky beach, he hurries to the boat, trying to see the damage, and if the person on it's okay. He shouts:]
Are you alright? Do you need any help?
no subject
I'm okay! ( There's a smile and raised hands, as if she's showing that she's not scratched up. There might be a couple of bruises later, but nothing awful. ) But my boat isn't.
( Okay, it could definitely be worse. She's not too broken up about it, just a little miffed. ) I don't think Cure works on boats...
( Unnnnfortunately. )
no subject
[He gives her a small smile, and then moves to check the boat. He grimaces.]
Agghh, certainly not. [He runs his hand over the large, splintered gashes where the rocks punched through.]
At least it's not...an entirely lost cause. It might take some work, but I'm sure we can find something at the Guard's headquarters.
no subject
She looks over his shoulder, a grimace quickly passing over her face. It's not irreparable, but it is the one of the last things anyone really needed. )
Yeah. That's where I was going, anyway. ( Hmmm... ) You think it'll be safe there?
( Or should they try and move it somewhere else? )
after the crash
Hey, you okay?
[ Boat's not okay, but at least that can be fixable. ]
no subject
Yeah. ( A nod. ) Nothing that can't be healed. ( Thank goodness for medical magic, although she's pretty sure she can live with any bruises that arise. )
Didn't think I'd see you here.
( She's not sure why. Maybe because they've been running into each other by her island a lot, she's come to associate his presence with that area. )
no subject
He's going ahead to check on the damage to the boat, frowning lightly. ]
I take walks around here sometimes. [ He tells her by way of explanation, tracing over the jagged edges but careful not to get splinters. ] ] I can help fix this, though.
no subject
She steps back to let him take a look, biting her lower lip as she surveys the damage from over his shoulder. )
Yeah? ( Oh thank goodness. ) Shall we do it together?
