The Killing Game
Who: The Raven crew: Gansey, Blue, Adam, Ronan and Noah
What: Blue targets Gansey during the Assassin event
Where: The Raven House.
When: During Rage's Assassin event
Warnings: Attempted murder, the full list of swear words known by Ronan Lynch, teenage angst.
[ As far as Gansey knows, it's an ordinary morning in their house. He's yet to venture outside, and hasn't seen any of his friends emerge from their rooms. Given that his own is the living room these days, and also given that he struggles to sleep most nights, he typically finds himself wandering around alone in the mornings. This isn't a place with a great prevalence of cereal boxes, and his beloved car is still at home, so his usual methods of distracting a wakeful mind are unavailable.
That's why, on this particular morning, his friends will arrive to discover Gansey has built some approximation of the Eiffel Tower out of a range of the house's cutlery. There may have been one or two minor crashes, when his efforts collapsed on him, but really, that should just make everyone glad that he didn't decide to use the plates. This is a lot harder than it looks. He's in the kitchen, minding his own business, and setting this monstrosity up on one of the counters. There's also some indeterminate can of something being warmed in the microwave; let no one say he never attempts to cook for his friends.
Oblivious to what's started to happen around the city, Gansey goes innocently about his model building, and waits for the first of them to wake up. ]

But he understands that it might be awkward for her, having him here, so he keeps his distance. Careful, as Adam always is.]
I guess it must have been. I didn't see them, I have no idea who it was.
[Which is a good part of the reason he hasn't left the house since. If he knew who shot him, he could avoid them, or find some way to make himself safe - but it could be anybody. He knows everyone here is no threat to him, but outside? He has no idea. Adam is far too prudent to throw himself into danger without (what he considers to be) a good reason.
His fingers come up to touch his shoulder, brushing his shirt over the bandage. It could have been a lot worse.]
I don't think I've offended anyone here enough to make them want to kill me. And seeing what it's done to you - well, I guess I can't blame them too much.

It's never the right time. Like today. Even now. If she wanted to, just trying to talk about Gansey wouldn't come out right. It's all messed up in her head. Is she in love with him or does she just want to see him dead? It makes her sick.
So as always, today just isn't the right time to dredge up the past. ]
Please be careful if you leave the house. Even if they're... like me. And they can't stop it and it's not their fault. I still don't want to see anything bad happen to you. [ Again. Anymore. Please. ]
If you need help dressing it, let me know. [ She tries a little more slightly, she even manages half a smile. It's what she's got now. ] I'm trying to get better at the bandaging up thing. Apparently we need it more in this house than ever.

[And to keep an eye on her and Gansey, is what he doesn't say, but it's another reason. A vital one. They're both safer here, too. They're all safer together. But, of course, with Blue affected by whatever is going on here, they have to be careful. Adam still believes it's safer for everyone to be under one roof, as long as he and Ronan and Noah are there to keep them apart. But it's a delicate situation.
There's undoubtedly someone out there gunning for Blue, or at least that's how this seems to work out. And there's no way to be sure Blue is the only one after Gansey, or that whoever shot Adam is the only threat to him. And Ronan - Ronan makes enemies just by going outside on a normal day.]
Thanks. It's not really in a place I can reach easily myself, so I might need some help eventually. I've gotten some first aid experience since we left home, though. I can walk you through it.
[There's a wry tone in his voice. Adam was decent at basic first aid even before - well, he had to be, didn't he? But he never had reason to give anyone stitches or bandage a serious wound or anything like that. He's learned.]

She just doesn't want to see him shot again. ]
I learned how to do stitches? [ She offers with a smile, letting the conversation take her away from the troubles. From the anger. She's not usually so apologetic for her anger. She doesn't buy into the fact that girls should be happy all the time. But even she's exhausted by the anger. ] But I'm lacking in the rest.... [ She shakes her head slightly. ] Should have learned more basics.
Are the others going to be staying too?

[But of course, Adam isn't too fond of that idea. He's still not comfortable asking for help, though he's gotten better at it - it would be impossible not to, with everything that's happened. Even so, if he can do it himself, he will, and if he can't he'd rather trust it to only the people he knows. But that's not always possible.
Still, for something as simple as changing bandages, it should be. He should be able to manage.]
Ronan's staying. I don't know about Noah - I think he might. Everything's gonna be safer if we can all watch each other's backs, and I know Ronan probably would prefer we all stay here.
[Since he's taken it upon himself to try to protect them as best he can. Adam does as well, in his own way, but that's different.]

Except her mind takes that though and makes it too painful to let linger.
She pushes it away and she moves back onto the bed. She's settling now. She hasn't much since he entered the room, but she's making herself settle. She's not leaving. And... right now she feels most comfortable around Adam. More than around anyone else right now. Ronan saw what she did to Gansey. Gansey keeps bringing up bad thoughts. And the news from Noah still grips her heart.
She looks up at Adam as she wills the rage away. ]
Did you know in the other world we had cats? Because of you.
no subject
[He likes cats well enough. He likes dogs a little more, maybe, but he's never had the time or money for a real pet. The place Blue was before must have been a lot different than this place - Adam can't imagine adopting cats here, much less getting any of the others to do it. It's too dangerous, too uncertain. They have their own lives to worry about, and that's more than enough.
But really, he doesn't think he should be given the life and welfare of another living creature. Not until he's really set himself straight. It's an uncomfortable and strange thought that there's another version of Adam out there who might not even have thought twice about it.]
I think a few people here have pets that they brought from home. I mean, Chainsaw, of course, but there are a few dogs and things like that.
[He hasn't seen any cats, though. This is a decent topic, regardless, since it has nothing to do with Gansey.]
I don't think there's any pet food in the shops. It must be pretty hard to take care of them.
no subject
Probably. You'd have to feed them junk... [ She shakes her head, twisting her lips in a frown.
And then... with a heavy sigh. ]
That other world... It made going other places interesting. I almost didn't want to go home. I mean, if mom had been there and everyone else we loved I might never have left. [ She raises her eyes to his. ]
You didn't get much luck in your world before this one, did you?
no subject
I'm not sure I ever get much luck.
[The world she was in sounds much better. Nicer. Like someplace you could really live, instead of just surviving day-to-day and hoping for a way home. Maybe that other Adam got all the luck that this one doesn't have.]
It wasn't great. It was as dangerous as this one, except instead of a power source we were all being used as sacrifices. I don't know if this is an improvement or just a different kind of torture, but at least every once in awhile they do something nice for us here.
[Not that Adam ever trusts those things, but it's better than constant terror.]
Now that you're here, I'm sure you want to go home.
