Event Log: In Need of a Boat

What: The event log for the In Need of a Boat event

Warnings: Emotional stuff. You know.

All right, so the gods need your energy. That's not new. You mostly know how this goes... except now it's all in your hands. Instead of the gods forcing emotion on you, it's up to you to pledge yourself to a god and inspire their emotion in others, in order to get the best ships and sails and compasses and all those other things.

So what are you going to do? Set up an elaborate date to make someone feel love... then use the setup for five other people? Wow, scandalous. Start fights in the street? Ooh, spicy! Or maybe you'll lead a yoga and meditation workshop in an attempt to help others find their inner tranquility. How relaxing.

Whatever you do, make the most of it. How many supporters each god has, and the effort they put into what they're doing, directly affects how nice the things they'll end up making are. So if you want food that actually tastes good, lend Hope a hand, but if you want sails that aren't full of holes, well, maybe it's time to work on your streetfighting skills. Rage needs you! And each of the gods definitely appreciates your help. Probably. They might even remember your name this time.

"Why? People have to move on." That was how it worked for them. He doesn't have to because he's not a person, but people grow and change and move.

"It doesn't make them less to stop hurting."

[bythewaves]

"The people do, but the stories don't." Maglor shrugs.

"And ... well. Elven memory is evergreen. It makes it hard sometimes to move forwards, when yesterday is at once both terribly far and so very close."

[fadeling]

"It's too close but too far, too." It almost sounded like the Fade, one thing and another at the same time.

"Do you want to?"

[bythewaves]

"Even so." Maglor nods. "It's a problem, especially when you think about how for my folk death is only a break, a pause in the journey! Somewhere, maybe, my victims are maybe learning to live again in Valinor's protected bliss. I won't dishonor their efforts by forgetting."

[fadeling]

"You don't have to forget." No one ever really seems to want to, even when it's for the best. "You don't have to hurt, either."

[bythewaves]

"I cannot forget." Maglor nods. "And I'm sorry Cole - I know you want to help! - but I dare not stop hurting."

[fadeling]

"You don't forget them if you stop hurting." Cole should probably know better, but it's his nature--he can't help it. "When is the hurting enough? When do the whispers end?"

[bythewaves]

"I don't know if it ever will or could be enough, Cole." Maglor brushes a gentle hand across his cheek fondly. The scars are split and oozing slowly.

"I don't think it would be right to let it stop."

[fadeling]

"Why?" A question he's asked before and not received an answer he liked. Maybe he'd better just get used to it.

"Hurting now doesn't change then."

[bythewaves]

"It doesn't." Maglor nods. "But it is the only penance I have left to give."

[fadeling]

"Is it?" Cole couldn't quite believe that, but he wasn't a person, either. He pretended he was for a while, but he never really was.

[bythewaves]

"They're all gone where I cannot reach them to offer anything else."

He sighs. "So this is all I have left."

[fadeling]

"You're more than your hurt, even when it whispers you aren't." Even if he doesn't and probably never will believe it.

[bythewaves]

Maglor cups his cheek fondly.

"Thank you for saying so, Cole. I don't know if I will ever be worth more than this, but thank you for saying so."
