All right, so the gods need your energy. That's not new. You mostly know how this goes... except now it's all in your hands. Instead of the gods forcing emotion on you, it's up to you to pledge yourself to a god and inspire their emotion in others, in order to get the best ships and sails and compasses and all those other things.

So what are you going to do? Set up an elaborate date to make someone feel love... then use the setup for five other people? Wow, scandalous. Start fights in the street? Ooh, spicy! Or maybe you'll lead a yoga and meditation workshop in an attempt to help others find their inner tranquility. How relaxing.

Whatever you do, make the most of it. How many supporters each god has, and the effort they put into what they're doing, directly affects how nice the things they'll end up making are. So if you want food that actually tastes good, lend Hope a hand, but if you want sails that aren't full of holes, well, maybe it's time to work on your streetfighting skills. Rage needs you! And each of the gods definitely appreciates your help. Probably. They might even remember your name this time.

Well. You've already technically seen what's in there, when you put it in your chest... but... you probably don't mean that literally.

[This whole "emotions" thing really isn't something he's too good at, you'll have to bear with him. He gasps quietly in surprise, looking at Atem thoughtfully as he says all of those things. He hadn't guessed at any of it at all, but it makes him look at him in a new way. Maybe they have more in common than he'd realized.]

Trusting people is incredibly difficult, and so is facing the mistakes of the past. But we have to do both, somehow. Of all people, I know you have the strength to handle that, and to find your place. Atem... [He pauses, looking away, not eager to recall a certain horrific event, but thinking of it anyway.] ...you've been there for me through something no one should have to experience. I can't ever repay you enough for your loyalty. I should be the one thanking you, but...

[Now he looks at Atem, and is entirely sincere, with even the hint of a light smile on his face. He cares for his friend, and... maybe that connection counts for what the gods want of him.] ...You're welcome.

「Atem gives him a bit of a diverted chuckle, of course he's not being literal, but he let's it pass, it's just some of the charm that makes Kain, Kain. He wouldn't change anything about him.

Kain's words make his chest feel warmer (and his face too), it is him who often offers the soothing words and not the other way around, it's a nice feeling, despite of constantly feeling he doesn't deserve them. But the fact that they are from Kain is enough. Atem, who has seen much more than anyone should be allowed knows that it is not like him to do so, so, he embraces them and makes them his, it's the little things like these that make everything worth it.

For a little moment, Atem just stares at him, not quite knowing what to say, for a change.」

I think... I need to put these on water.

「He finally says with a bit of a shy smile and he holds them a tad closer. That's what people did with a bouquet, right?」

[It's surprising to Kain to see Atem at a loss for words this time, but that certainly is meaningful, isn't it? Kain certainly wouldn't say any of these things without meaning them. Even if he'd started this out merely as a means to an end, a way to achieve the goal to aid the gods. He certainly hadn't been prepared to feel any emotions himself, but... Well... it's been a long time since he's been around his close friends. Even someone as seemingly closed off as he is misses the way such friendships made him feel.]

You ought to, so that they won't wilt. I'm really glad you like them, Atem... and... that you're here. I mean here, in this place. I'm glad we met.

「For what is worth, for the little time they may spend in this place together, Atem is glad too, that much is obvious to see despite the struggles.

He gives Kain a hearty nod.」

As do I. I will not take more of your time, doing Love's work is no easy task. I wish you good luck in your very hard endeavor.

「Is he mocking? He's... probably being a little more than cheeky with that last comment, with no ill intention, of course, even so it's true, doing the so-called work can be both infuriating and frustrating but also, rewarding in its own way. Specially if it involves something like this coming from the one of the most stoic persons he's met.」

I'm going to need all the luck I can get.

[At least that sort of lighthearted teasing is the sort of thing Kain is used to from certain friends of his back home. So it's not as if he takes any offense to it. He knows Atem means well.]
