Intro Log: Please Remove Metal From Luggage

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for August
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: August 10th-13th
Warnings: New folks, metal falling apart, fun stuff

As you wake up on the sand of the colosseum, gazing up at cloudy gray skies, you might wonder what you're doing here. Where are you? How did you get here? You'll figure it all out soon enough, so try to clamp down on that rising panic, or you just might end up in a dangerous situation.

Because, of course, you're not the only thing that arrived. The Door has also chosen to pull in some rust monsters. These monsters may look a bit like insects, but they're much larger, with a rather vicious bite. You can fight them, but be careful - anything metal that touches them instantly begins to corrode. Your sword, a bullet from your gun, even your robot friend. Might want to keep a little distance.

And that's not all. Scattered across the ground of the colosseum can be found a variety of unique and delightful musical instruments. If you're the musical sort, maybe you can figure out how to play one - or maybe you already know. Hopefully no rust monster has wandered too close to the one you want to try, or you might find that it's missing important metal bits.

Once you've found a way to express the song in your heart, feel free to leave whatever bit of safety you've found. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

► This log covers August 10th-13th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

[He's turned her down already, but if she's still offering, he can't bring himself to do it again. His eyes light up as he nods, motioning her to join him in the kitchen.]

If the lady really wants to help, how can I possibly deny her benevolence?

[Especially when he really does need to figure this out as soon as possible.]

[this is not the first time she's walked someone through modern technology. funny thing is, though, she's from 1989]

It's no big deal. [she walks over to the oven and points to a button reading "Minutes"]

You see that button? All you have to do is press on it and hold it and there's a countdown to the number of minutes you need. [she demonstrates] See?

[If Sanji tried to explain to anyone that he was from the 1500s, he would be laughed out of the room. Maybe it's those modern suits and ties of his. Or the pack of cigarettes in his shirt pocket. Or the fact that, as far as he's aware, phones are a thing you attach to snails. Maybe he should just tell people he's an alien.

He perks up as he sees the symbols light up the digital display.
]

Down? You're sure? It counts down, not up.

[As long as he knows that, he can figure out what each of the numbers are.]

[people would likely accept the alien explanation. this place gets in all kinds.

she smiles at him when he does]

Uh-huh, I'm sure. I work in the Bakery here, so I've got plenty of experience with these things. The hours button is different. It counts up, so be careful with that one.

[he'll be fine with a little practice]
deviledlegs: (nice hair wanna mess it up?)

[personal profile] deviledlegs 2018-08-27 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
You bake?!

[This time it's his eyes that light up. Is it possible? Can she not only help him with the equipment but with recipes as well?]
outofthefire: (I was born to be the other woman)

[personal profile] outofthefire 2018-08-28 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I can cook meals, too.

[she can do that. she co-ran Twin Peaks' Meals on Wheels program]
deviledlegs: (i'll eat my way to your heart)

[personal profile] deviledlegs 2018-08-29 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
Amazing! Then you must know all about the food here! [The alien plant life, the strange stuff he saw in that shop...] I would love to see you at work! If you would honor me with just one or two of your secrets, I could die a happy chef!
outofthefire: (you were way ahead of the trend)

[personal profile] outofthefire 2018-08-29 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I do know a lot. The bad thing is, if we want meat or vegetables, we're stuck with canned. Though, sometimes the monsters aren't bad. Plus, there's always fishing. One of the only things these stupid islands are good for. [she considers] I can make spaghetti with tomato sauce and meatballs. I'd have to go to my house for the meat, though.
deviledlegs: (no hobo)

[personal profile] deviledlegs 2018-09-01 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
[Spaghetti, huh? The gears in Sanji's head are already turning.]

As much as I would die to see your lovely abode, my baking beauty, I suggest instead fresh seafood! Has anyone caught any crab or octopus off these coasts?
outofthefire: (am I that girl that you dream of?)

[personal profile] outofthefire 2018-09-02 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
[it's been so long since she's been fawned over by a guy, she'd almost forgotten what it was like. almost]

Yeah, there are these little crab-like things people catch and eat. They're pretty good. I don't know how we'd get an octopus or anything like it, though.
deviledlegs: (go out and get a job)

[personal profile] deviledlegs 2018-09-02 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
Crab-like meat, it is! [He announces giddily.] Please show me how it's done in your kitchen, Teacher!
outofthefire: (a freshmen generation of degenerates)

[personal profile] outofthefire 2018-09-02 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
We'll have to go and catch some. They look a lot like crabs, but they have a few extra limbs. And they're purple. [she smiles] I'd love to.
deviledlegs: (i'll be your hot chocolate today)

[personal profile] deviledlegs 2018-09-02 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[He extends his hand for her to take.]

Then you'll just have to show me how that's done too.
outofthefire: (I was born to be the other woman)

[personal profile] outofthefire 2018-09-02 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[she takes it graciously]

I can do that. It's a little tricky to catch them without them pinching you. How many will we need?
deviledlegs: (honeydew you know how fine)

[personal profile] deviledlegs 2018-09-05 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
That depends on their size! [With her hand in his, Sanji smiles the toothiest grin the world has ever seen. He raises his hand - and hers by extension - just high enough to twirl her beneath it.] Let's see how many we can catch?
outofthefire: (it’s alarming honestly how charming)

[personal profile] outofthefire 2018-09-05 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
They're about the size of my palm. [and she's twirled and laughs happily. she's missed being treated like she's special by a guy] Sounds fine to me. We'll need to stop at a store and pick up a bucket or a basket.
deviledlegs: (cinderhella fine)

[personal profile] deviledlegs 2018-09-08 07:46 am (UTC)(link)
[Her laughter is cherubic to his ears, starved as they are for anything remotely affectionate. He basks in it none-too-subtly.]

Lead the way, my radiant angel! Your light could guide me straight to hell, and I'd still be a happy man!

[Gesturing forward, he waits for her to show him the way to his new personal heaven.]
outofthefire: (I don't even have to fake it now)

[personal profile] outofthefire 2018-09-09 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[and she basks in his basking. she likes this guy]

All right. The stores are this way. Some of the clothing options there might make think you've gone to hell, but all we need is a good sized bucket.

[and she begins to lead the way to the shops]
