As you wake up on the sand of the colosseum, gazing up at cloudy gray skies, you might wonder what you're doing here. Where are you? How did you get here? You'll figure it all out soon enough, so try to clamp down on that rising panic, or you just might end up in a dangerous situation.
Because, of course, you're not the only thing that arrived. The Door has also chosen to pull in some rust monsters. These monsters may look a bit like insects, but they're much larger, with a rather vicious bite. You can fight them, but be careful - anything metal that touches them instantly begins to corrode. Your sword, a bullet from your gun, even your robot friend. Might want to keep a little distance.
And that's not all. Scattered across the ground of the colosseum can be found a variety of unique and delightful musical instruments. If you're the musical sort, maybe you can figure out how to play one - or maybe you already know. Hopefully no rust monster has wandered too close to the one you want to try, or you might find that it's missing important metal bits.
Once you've found a way to express the song in your heart, feel free to leave whatever bit of safety you've found. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers August 10th-13th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

What was your job? Did you like it? [ what's it like to have a normal job? or really, a job at all? Cashmere would really call any of what she's done since winning the games a job. ]

[Connor's never met human twins, so he's curious despite his large databases their information on the subject. As for the questions, they're both... They would've both been much simpler to answer if he'd come from a few hours earlier, at home.]
I work as a detective. It's difficult to say if I like it, however; the cases recently have been complicated.
[He's being purposefully vague, but still honest. He likes--or thinks he does, anyway, because there's a whole mess that goes into whether or not he actually 'likes' something, especially this--the process of investigating and putting puzzles together, but their cases have been... It's been for the best if he hasn't solved them, and so it makes things a confusing mess.]
What do you do?

[ difficult to say if he likes it. she can relate. her life feels like a long series of events that she's not sure she's enjoyed much of. everything depends on how you look at it. ] My job is... complicated. Some of year I spend as a trainer at a boarding school. Not teaching, but social lessons and training people to use weapons. The rest of my time I'm a district representative and spend time in our Capitol doing whatever's needed of me, towards the best interests of my district.
[ she shrugs. ] There's parts I like and parts I don't.

What parts?

[ she avoids his gaze as she talks, looking over his shoulder instead of at him. the worst part of these conversations about her past is always the other person's reaction. ]
There are a lot of rich, powerful people in the Capitol. Our President asked me to keep them entertained. Sometimes that meant being at their party, or singing. Sometimes it meant sexually. I didn't like any of it, but that was the worst part.
But that's all far away now, and I'm safe here.

He decides not to ask her for more details, the general idea of what went on being enough, and he feels a distinct sense of empathy for her. He's no stranger to the idea that humans are horrible to their own kind as well, and it's no better or worse than when they are so to an android.]
I'm glad you can find some refuge in this place.
[Even if the situation isn't as good as it could be. Hadn't that been the philosophy of the androids that escaped to Jericho?]
What do you do here? Now that you can choose.
[Does she have hobbies or a job here?]

his question is harder to answer. she never really used to think about what she wished or wanted for herself outside of the Capitol. she never thought there would be freedom for her, or anyone like her. maybe that's why they didn't see fit to make her part of the rebellion. she never would have believed in it.
and it's tricky, to be someone with freedom after so many years of living your life the way someone else told you to, with no privacy and few choices of your own to make. sometimes she finds herself hiding away and choosing safety when things start to be scary, because she's so afraid to lose what she has now. ]
I help Newt at the lab. He's teaching me the kind of things I missed out on in school. Which it turns out, was quite a bit. I like to sing - which I did before, but now it's just for me. Oh! I like reading, too. Everything at home was government approved. Some of the books here are strange but it's improvement.
I guess I just try to live. [ for all the people at home who couldn't. ]
no subject
What kinds of things are you learning at the lab?
[Might as well ask about that first, because he's got the ideas of reading and singing well enough.]
no subject
What do you do here? [ upside of living on some weird isolated planet? lots of time for hobbies. ]

As for the question he looks briefly unsure, then maybe slightly sheepish; the emotions are genuine, although he's allowing his social integration program to make them more visible on his face. He's still learning to emote naturally.]
I joined the Guard, but I have very little free time at home and so I have few hobbies. That's part of the reason I was asking about what you do.
[And that's truthful, although he's vastly overstating with 'little free time' and 'few hobbies'; it's really more like 'no free time' and 'no hobbies', but he's working on that too. He also wasn't asking just because of that, because he really was just interested in the answers as far as learning about her goes. So far she's on his very short list of pleasant humans.]
