Intro Log: Please Remove Metal From Luggage

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for August
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: August 10th-13th
Warnings: New folks, metal falling apart, fun stuff

As you wake up on the sand of the colosseum, gazing up at cloudy gray skies, you might wonder what you're doing here. Where are you? How did you get here? You'll figure it all out soon enough, so try to clamp down on that rising panic, or you just might end up in a dangerous situation.

Because, of course, you're not the only thing that arrived. The Door has also chosen to pull in some rust monsters. These monsters may look a bit like insects, but they're much larger, with a rather vicious bite. You can fight them, but be careful - anything metal that touches them instantly begins to corrode. Your sword, a bullet from your gun, even your robot friend. Might want to keep a little distance.

And that's not all. Scattered across the ground of the colosseum can be found a variety of unique and delightful musical instruments. If you're the musical sort, maybe you can figure out how to play one - or maybe you already know. Hopefully no rust monster has wandered too close to the one you want to try, or you might find that it's missing important metal bits.

Once you've found a way to express the song in your heart, feel free to leave whatever bit of safety you've found. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[Ah - there it is again, that strange catlike monster. Caedra had noticed it some time back when everyone was lapsing into dreams and naturally had to take advantage of the opportunity to gain some insight. But that had been a dream, after all, and she still doesn't fully understand what the creature is.

It also seems just as confused as she had first been by the odd machine that plays music. Songs are selected, switched, stopped, played again. Eventually Caedra steps forward, drink in hand.]

[Mewtwo recognizes the voice and face - from a terrible nightmare. But it wouldn't make any sense for Caedra to be in her dreams, so she forces the feeling of unease back down.

She gives the jukebox a look, and then glances back to Caedra.]

I... am not quite sure what it's supposed to be.

Is it's purpose just to play noise?

[Mewtwo uh, hasn't really been exposed to music before.]

[Perfectly used to telepathy at home, it actually takes Caedra a second to realize that that's what she's experiencing and that it's odd for here, a place where everyone has to actually speak out loud. She possesses no innate telepathy of her own except for with her immediate family, but others often use it to speak with her, and it's oddly comforting. Shouldn't be, but is, just because it's familiar. She smiles a little, then nods at the much taller creature.]

That's right. Music, it's called. Noise that carries meaning. Conveys emotion, and elicits it in kind. Popular in a place like this. It gets people dancing.

Hmmm...

[Mewtwo looks at the jukebox thoughtfully. Of course, she doesn't recognize any of the song titles. She'd been mindlessly flipping through them, curiously drawn to each song.

Which "music" do you recommend, then?

The ones this place has are nothing like what I'm used to. Of course, we don't play music out of strange boxes like this often, either.

[But she's been here long enough to have heard a few, and some are all right. Others are excruciatingly bad. Most she knows nothing about. But pretending like she has any idea what most of the tracks are, she navigates through the list with various buttons until she settles on one with an eye-catching title. And grins as she proceeds to move to the beat.]

[Mewtwo listen carefully to the song, almost like she's analyzing it instead of letting the music effect her. She watches Caedra moving to the music, though Mewtwo's not really sure if she should be doing the same.

Her tail flicks curiously.]

This song is about... eating people?

[Caedra laughs at that. Gods, does she explain, or does she -

No, it is far funnier not to. The voice of her inner writer, who would gladly have explained the metaphor, is drowned out by that wild part of her that much prefers when people are upset and confused. Or at least woefully misinformed, to their own detriment. The laugh fades to a sinister grin and she nods.]

Fun, isn't it? Has a good rhythm.

[Mewtwo tilts her head. She thought she had a pretty good idea about what humans were like (mostly bad), but the ones here are so strange...]

Hmf. It concerns me not what you do with other humans.

[It's a little disturbing, and Mewtwo doesn't think she really gets it. She's still being 100% serious though.]

That movement you were doing earlier... was that dancing?

[abyssalarcana]

[Aww, it thinks she's human. Well, she won't try to correct it. The incorrect assumption works in her favor often enough. Cannibalism is one of the least serious things she could be accused of.]

Yes! Yes, that's dancing, though there are so many different forms of it. None of them wrong, despite what others might tell you.

[But before we can get too far with that-]

I saw you in a dream, but I'm not sure how much of that dream was truth. What do you call yourself?
