Intro Log: Please Remove Metal From Luggage

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for August
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: August 10th-13th
Warnings: New folks, metal falling apart, fun stuff

As you wake up on the sand of the colosseum, gazing up at cloudy gray skies, you might wonder what you're doing here. Where are you? How did you get here? You'll figure it all out soon enough, so try to clamp down on that rising panic, or you just might end up in a dangerous situation.

Because, of course, you're not the only thing that arrived. The Door has also chosen to pull in some rust monsters. These monsters may look a bit like insects, but they're much larger, with a rather vicious bite. You can fight them, but be careful - anything metal that touches them instantly begins to corrode. Your sword, a bullet from your gun, even your robot friend. Might want to keep a little distance.

And that's not all. Scattered across the ground of the colosseum can be found a variety of unique and delightful musical instruments. If you're the musical sort, maybe you can figure out how to play one - or maybe you already know. Hopefully no rust monster has wandered too close to the one you want to try, or you might find that it's missing important metal bits.

Once you've found a way to express the song in your heart, feel free to leave whatever bit of safety you've found. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[And that? Most certainly not the answer that Carolina had thought she was going to give. Then again, it's not that surprising in the grand scheme of things.]

I suppose having a legion of super heroes negates a need for soldiers.

[unphase]

[she withdraws her arm from the wall and becomes fully tangible again]

There are only twelve of us total, but so far we've done a good job of keeping the United Planets safe.

[until the Daxamites came and begun to tear Earth apart]

[uptightness]

[Twelve.

Total.

That earns a small blink.]

You must be kept busy.

[unphase]

[and they're all under sixteen.

and most of them have modest powers like hers.

she smiles a little awkwardly]

Very busy. There's--a lot of stuff going on.

[stuff like rampaging Daxamites trying to destroy the Earth]

[uptightness]

[A bunch of kids... Carolina would have found that surprising, and a little troubling. Not that she doesn't believe that kids can do things, but kids shouldn't have to.]

There usually is... In one way or another, anyway. Hopefully nothing too bad?

[unphase]

[technically, the age of adulthood has been lowered to fourteen, but it's still a group of very young people who have to deal with very bad situations]

--oh! No. Nothing too bad.

[as long as she remains in denial, it's fine. time for a subject change]

How long have you been a soldier?

[uptightness]

[It is a slight change in course, although not too big of one. She'd enlisted as soon as she was able to do so, and had eventually gotten in to Project Freelancer. On her own merit, as well, not because of who her father had been.]

Sixteen years, give or take.

[unphase]

[she'd rather not discuss the Legion's most recent mission. to say that it wasn't going well would be putting it mildly]

Longer than I've been alive. You must be very good at it.

[uptightness]

[Well. Doesn't that make her feel a little old... Then again, Carolina had started early all things considered.]

It's what I know how to do.

[unphase]

[she can tell by the look on her face that the whole "longer than I've been alive" thing wasn't exactly well received. how to salvage the situation?]

What made you decide to become a soldier?

[uptightness]

[Truthfully? There is no straight answer. You would think having your mother die would dissuade you from becoming one. Her father had thrown himself in to his work, so there is a part of her early on that had wanted some level of acknowledgment from him.]

I guess you could say it runs in the family. I had to practice, and hard, but it's something I was good at. Maybe, for a time, I thought I would be protecting.

[unphase]

[she would understand the part about wanting acknowledgement from a parent. Tinya has been trying and failing to make her mother proud of her for years]

Protecting people is a good goal to have. So is continuing family traditions.

[uptightness]

We didn't really have family traditions.

[Maybe before her mom died, but she'd always gone off to serve, leaving Carolina and her father. They hadn't exactly been a two storey house with a white picket fence type of a family.

Yet she twitches her shoulders as if to say it was what it was.]

Although I suppose it's never too late to start new traditions with those you consider family.

[unphase]

Oh. [a pause] Neither did we.

[unless you count Tinya's mother belittling her and taking her to whatever planet needed mediation until the UP formed and they settled on Earth]

No, of course it's not. Family can be more than who you're related to.

[uptightness]

You can choose your family, no matter what anyone says.

[And she has hers.

But her attention shifts back to the task that she was working on, giving a little tip of her head towards the items.]

I'd suggest finding something, but checking back every few days for something new.

[unphase]

And I chose the Legion. And my boyfriend.

[but hers is not here.

she glances back to the clothes left on the table. the miniskirt works. so does the loose fitting blue sweater. the rest? yechh]

New items arrive that quickly?

[uptightness]

They can.

[It's a routine for her. She tends to wake up early, exercise and hit up the markets, have breakfast... She alters it a little here and there, not going every day, but she tries to at least come twice a week.]

Of course sometimes they don't. Not exactly a shipping schedule around here that I can figure out.

[unphase]

Oh. That's strange, but I guess it's convenient?

[she's not sure what her routine will end up being. probably something similar to Carolina's. she can't let herself get out of shape just because she's no longer with the rest of the Legion]

I should probably fly over to the other islands to see what their shops have to offer, too.

[uptightness]

[Fly... Over.]

Ya. That's a handy ability to have now.

[unphase]

Because of all of the islands? Yes, it's going to be a lot easier than waiting for a boat all the time.

[uptightness]

Certainly because of that. Be nice to have a Pelican here.

[Or even a boat with a nice little motor... although then you'd need fuel, and some place to keep it... Flying ship would be nice, but there'd be the same problems as a regular boat...]

Can you fly high then?

[unphase]

What's a Pelican?

[and there would be the pollution involved with most forms of motorized boats]

Yes, I can fly up to 7925 meters. Anything higher and I need a protective transuit.

[uptightness]

Ah. A type of ship.

[Not that she would refuse any... Although something like the MOI would be rather large for this place...]

... you should be able to get quite the view of this place.

[unphase]

Oh. I should've been able to figure that out.

[the Legion cruiser would've been perfect if it wasn't for the pesky problem of finding it a place to land]

I'd like to think so. Maybe see what others can't.

[uptightness]

[She does chuckle.]

With this place, I could well have meant a pelican big enough to ride...

[For all she knows, somewhere, someplace, there is such a thing...]

Exactly. Still trying to get our bearings on these islands.
