Intro Log: Please Remove Metal From Luggage

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for August
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: August 10th-13th
Warnings: New folks, metal falling apart, fun stuff

As you wake up on the sand of the colosseum, gazing up at cloudy gray skies, you might wonder what you're doing here. Where are you? How did you get here? You'll figure it all out soon enough, so try to clamp down on that rising panic, or you just might end up in a dangerous situation.

Because, of course, you're not the only thing that arrived. The Door has also chosen to pull in some rust monsters. These monsters may look a bit like insects, but they're much larger, with a rather vicious bite. You can fight them, but be careful - anything metal that touches them instantly begins to corrode. Your sword, a bullet from your gun, even your robot friend. Might want to keep a little distance.

And that's not all. Scattered across the ground of the colosseum can be found a variety of unique and delightful musical instruments. If you're the musical sort, maybe you can figure out how to play one - or maybe you already know. Hopefully no rust monster has wandered too close to the one you want to try, or you might find that it's missing important metal bits.

Once you've found a way to express the song in your heart, feel free to leave whatever bit of safety you've found. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

I'm sorry about your grandfather and your brother. That must've been painful. But what will happen to everyone who lives on your world when you break it?

[bythewaves]

We don't know. [ He shrugs ] The Wise amongst us speak of a Second Music, when Arda will be reborn and made right again, but none can see beyond the End, not even the Doomsman, so we have only Hope.

[unphase]

Hope can be a powerful thing, though.

[bythewaves]

There are few forces stronger. [ Maglor agrees ]

Utulien' aure! Day will come again - and it always does, e'en if we do not live to see it. That faith of the final morning is the very heart of estel, and why we keep going.

[unphase]

[she'll have to cling to hope while she's here. hope that she's still alive. hope that the Legion succeeds in their mission. hope for a way out of here.

she nods] That's . . . kind of why the Legion does what it does. To make sure that the day--and peace--will come again.

[bythewaves]

I hope you will live to see it!

[ He says with grave solemnity ]

Not all are so fortunate, but I hope you are one of them

[unphase]

["live to see it." that's almost funny as she's almost sure that she died in battle. but she can't let herself think about that]

So do I. And I hope that you are, too.

[bythewaves]

I have. [ Maglor smiles at her in thanks ]

Just before I was brought here, although this victory was nearly six thousand years of the sun in it's making.

[unphase]

[that brings her up short]

Six thousand? That's. . . a long time to wait.

[bythewaves]

Give or take a few centuries. [ Maglor muses ] And I suppose you could argue for longer or shorter, depending on when you want to start your count. Patience is not something that has come easily to me, but indeed, the day has at last come.

[unphase]

I know it wouldn't come easy to me, if I had to wait that long. I've never been good at patience.

[bythewaves]

[ He shrugs with a wry smile ]

I've nothing but time, these days. I learnt to wait because there was no other choice.

[unphase]

I guess I'll have to get used to patience while I wait for my friends at home to find me.

[bythewaves]

[ He smiles at her sympathetically ]

Unfortunately. [ He agrees ] Folk are working to try and find ways to go home, but ... 'twill be a long process, I deem, as our captors are obviously not terribly keen on letting us go!

[unphase]

Well, they can't keep us here forever. Eventually, we'll find a way to escape.

[she sounds more confident than she feels]

[bythewaves]

That is our hope, aye. But when that will be, who can say?

[unphase]

Soon. It has to be soon.

[bythewaves]

Naisie. [ He says fervently ]

For your sakes more than mine, I admit. I have time - I can wait! But most of you are mortal.

[unphase]

[the reminder of her mortality makes her bite her lip and look down at the ground. she doesn't even know if she's alive or dead in her world]

...it must be nice to not be mortal.

[bythewaves]

[ For a moment, the pleasant mask he works so hard to maintain cracks. For a moment, Maglor looks old. Unfanthomably old and tired, with grief as deep as the oceans. Just for the briefest of moments. ]

Sometimes. But truly it was said that we would weary of the world and envy Men.

[unphase]

[she's an ambassador's daughter, she's learned at her mother's side to notice things about people. so she sees the crack in Maglor's mask, but she doesn't feel okay asking about it]

...because Men can die?

[bythewaves]

Mm. [ He smiles a little wryly ]

I suppose it wouldn't seem such a nice thing to you. But Men are free, in a way that we are not.

[unphase]

[she flashes back to the moment in the clearing, Jo's arms around her, then pain]

...no. Not really.

[tentatively]

How're we freer? Is it just because--because we can die?

[bythewaves]

Not just die - but you leave. One of the names my people call you is Strangers, as you come and go out we know not where, while my folk must perforce linger, for we are tied to the world and its fate, watching as all around us slowly crumbles.

[unphase]

That sounds horrible. How do you. . . how do you stand that?
