Bon voyage

Who: Three ships a-sailing! (from here Law's crew of 8, Curufin's boat, and Floki's boat)
What: hunting for Door fragments and having adventures
Where: wherever the wind takes us, baby
When: August 14-September 19, a little over 4 weeks at sea
Warnings: unknown besides violence, sass-mouths, and general assholery. Will update as needed.

The first round of texts alerted everyone involved that the ship was finished. Law's plans dictated something alike to a brig sloop, only the final product came out a bit smaller thanks to limited resources. Twenty-five meters long and 6 meters at the beam, two masts, square-rigged, with a half-cabin in front to serve as forecastle and a larger cabin aft to store Kaiba's technology and provide shelter for the galley. Spoilers, he's named it the Corazon. Law's only order at that time was to prepare: pack a single bag and nothing more, make arrangements with your pals staying back, and show up to help load supplies at XX:00. The second text came on the 13th, dictating that only god-provided supplies the captain wanted were a map, a compass, and the boxes from Tranquility. Nothing else was worth his time, or his attention. The morning of the 14th, they're off!

The alliance of three ships includes Curufin's elvish longboat and Floki's Viking ship, so that anyone not capable of getting along could still be along for the trip while safely sequestered out of each other's way. Along the way they will stop off on any island with vegetation and animal life signs, to resupply both food and water, and anyone up for fishing is welcome to have at it. When it comes time to go diving for the fragment they've discovered, difficulty and adventures await.

Your captain has only two rules: your crewmates are your life so no killing each other, and if he gives you an actual order you obey it. Aside from that, there are no orders, just a mild suggestion that you not piss off the captain. He won't care if you piss each other off so long as we can all pitch in together to rig the sails, raise anchor, and get those fragments. Everything else, enjoy yourselves.

On September 5th, an anomalous reading at coordinates uncovers Null Sentries which attack the ship.

On September 7, through the 15th, there is a massive storm after which the ship will limp to one of the small islands just a few days away from the city, so they can make repairs and resupply for the last leg home.

[ooc: make your own toplevels! make multiple toplevels! prompts by day, by phase of the journey (embarking, hunting, searching for the fragment, returning), new prompts whenever you get a new idea, whatever. We're pirates, there are no rules. Jump between the three ships, meet up on an island where we've stopped, come get fed by Sanji because he's the best...

Stow away / Overboard!

Eleven had seen the many people, coming and going on the boats. She's not found a crew of her own and didn't really know how to sail or fully understand why people were sailing, all she knew was it was something she'd never done, something she wanted to learn.

So, with very little thought, El clambered inside a sack of supplies and nestled herself away in a tight corner of someone's boat. She concentrated on the voices she could hear, on what was being said and who was saying it but she couldn't identify the voices as of yet.

When the boat finally set sail, only just over a few hours in and El was starting to feel a little green around the gills. She waited for as long as she could until she couldn't hear the voices of those around her, before sneaking out of the sack and hanging overboard. The sea was rougher than she imagined and in such a small boat too! It felt as though the waves were deliberately trying to toss the vessel up in the air, only to bring it crashing back down.

After emptying the small contents of her stomach overboard, El realized that she was in danger of being spotted, so in a brash moment of impulse, she threw herself over the side of the boat and hung on there for dear life. She didn't like the idea of being spotted, what trouble she would be in, what kind of people would find her. As she hung there, panic set in. The sea lashing at her legs, soaking her right to the middle. Her fingers started to go numb from the cold splash of sea spray and in a moment faster then the blink of an eye, El felt her fingers lose their grip.

Splashing into the water, she gasped out loud! managing to treat water out of sheer fear and automatic reflexes. There was no way she would be able to swim, she'd never learnt! And catching up with a boat that she wasn't supposed to be on in the first place just seemed pointless.

So there she was. Splashing and bobbing up and down. Only bearly able to keep her head above water for long. Using her powers and trying to levitate was harder than she thought it would be, so she tried to stop the waves from crashing over her head, by extending her minds reach and breaking them before they got to her. Her nose started to drip blood from the excessive use of her powers, the water around her tinting pink with each drop that splashed down.

She was in trouble. Deep trouble.

resident ice alien to the rescue~~

It certainly is a precarious position that Eleven has found herself in, but thankfully the danger is lessened nearly as quickly as the situation had escalated in the first place. Given that Glacius has been spending as much time in the water as he could to distract himself from his troubled mind, escorting the boats and keeping an eye out for any trouble, it does not take long for him to notice the small human bobbing about haphazardly in the waves. Her distress is clear, so the alien immediately moves in to assist, his serpentine form winding through the choppy waves.

Oddly enough, the closer he gets to her, the less those waves become a problem; somehow they're breaking before they reach her form, meaning that she's surrounded by a short region of calmer water. Curious. Some innate ability of hers, perhaps? It doesn't help the alien feel better about the situation when he notices that said water is tinted red with blood. Fearing that the young human might soon succumb to injury or exhaustion, but not quite able to break through whatever field of influence Eleven has thrown up in her fright, Glacius has to reach out to her in other ways; his natural form emerges waist-up from the waters, and he extends one large white hand to her.

"Here, young one, take my hand!" Glacius calls out to her, so set in his intent to help that he hasn't much thought of how she might react to an alien suddenly emerging from the dark sea before her. He is largely humanoid in shape... but so was the last creature she faced, unknown to him. At least he has a clearly discernible face, and the lack of mouth is an immediate distinction from the petal-like opening lined with nasty teeth that haunted her. "I promise you, I am here to help if you let me!"

As the form emerged from the waves just outside of her reach, Eleven has to squint to see him. The salt water stung and burned at her eyes, causing them to blur as they became lightly bloodshot and red. A few coughs and splutters as the small girl swallowed a few mouthfuls of the water. As first, she wasn't even sure if she was hearing anything at all or if it was just her imagination. However, when she saw the pale form rise from the ocean, Eleven was sure alright.

"NO!" She yelled out, her voice hoarse and raspy, probably from swallowing all that salt water. With one hand already held out and stopping the waves from tumbling down on her, there wasn't really much she could do! So, having no other option, Eleven broke the invisible hold she held and thrust her hand in his direction instead.

The moment she stopped concentrating on keeping the water from breaking, she sent a psionic blast in the alien's direction. It was hard enough to at least push him back, though her power was fading and Eleven couldn't hold him at a distance like she could the water. Speaking of water, now that she wasn't focused on it, a large wave that had been building, swirling and bubbling behind her, caught her off guard, coming crashing down on top of her head forcing the poor child under the water.

Eleven started to sink, her body like a reed or water lily, just flowing and going where ever the waves took her. Red tendrils meandered from both nostrils as the nosebleed grew stronger, her eyes close, possibly unconscious or exhausted.

This was bad.
glacius: (Gentle giant.)

No worries~

Glacius is used to people reacting with shock or even fright upon first seeing him, as awful as that is—what he is very much not used to is being struck by physic blasts of energy. Perhaps he should have expected it, given the way the waves were breaking on an invisible barrier around her, but there's no time to consider that now as the force hits him. Thankfully he's only partially shifted, meaning his lower half is merged with the ocean water and thus he cannot be bodily tossed backwards; he is pushed away, however, and has to lower his head and fold his arms defensively in front of himself as he tries to rally against it. By the time he raises his eyes, the child had disappeared below the waves.

Wasting no time, Glacius shifted again as he plunged himself underwater, his body elongating into the serpentine form that he's been utilizing most frequently for subaquatic exploration. It doesn't take long for him to spot Eleven again, or to notice that her panicked flailing has gone still; hoping this means he won't have to risk any more psychic assaults, the ice alien winds towards her, using his front limbs to gently nudge her onto his long, smooth back before he starts rising back towards the surface. His strong tail holds her carefully in place as they break up and bob in the choppy waves once more.

And that is how Eleven will find herself when she comes to; resting safely on the back of a large, glittering creature, water droplets and reflected sunlight shining on his shell. His neck is twisted slightly to allow his mouthless face to look back at her, something akin to concern coloring his alien features.

After Glacius rescues Eleven

[personal profile] so_dark_a_road 2018-08-24 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Curufin was glad to give Eleven a refuge, and it had been kind of Glacius to bring her. The little girl was soaked, and Curufin found a blanket and a place for her to sit, sheltered by the rowing benches. At the moment, there was relative calm -- meaning no lightening and no rain and no waves threatening to engulf the boat at every turn. Just the usual turbulence, which required vigilance but did not immediately threaten their lives.

"You seem to have weathered being dunked in the water, young one. It says much for you that you were able to keep your head and keep afloat. I'm Curufin Fëanorion. What's your name?"

Sure, it was calm now, but every once in a while when the boat started to rock a little more aggressively, Eleven furrowed her brow and considered aiding it to a more gentle balance... Though, she had been exhausted and needed to replenish her strength before using her powers again. No, for now, she would just have to sit and be a good boat-guest?

"It does?" Eleven wasn't used to compliments and being told it was a big deal that she hadn't drown, that she had been able to keep afloat seemed to be a compliment? People sure are strange. Another strange thing was the man's name. Eleven took a moment, struggling at the best of times with names and words, as she uttered it back to him slowly, making sure she was pronouncing it right.

" Curufin... Fëanorion?" Tilting her head and offering a small, meek smile as she pulled up the wet sleeve of her arm and exposed her wrist where the number 11 was tattooed onto her pale skin. "Eleven."

Curufin has never met her before, but he'll welcome her assistance once she's rested and they have spoken enough for her to trust him with a description of what she can do. Any useful powers she cares to employ will be welcomed, though she'd be welcome even if all she could do was be a boat-guest!

"Yes, it does. You have a level head on your shoulders, Eleven."

And he nodded and smiled when she pronounced his name. "Yes, that's right. Not everybody can pronounce an Elvish name even on the tenth try, let alone on the first!"

He looked at the tattooed number on her upper arm, and responded. "You have your name on your arm, and it is a number. Clearly, there's a story behind this name. I'm curious, but if you're tired, you need not tell me. For right now, can I offer you a hot drink?"

You wouldn't think there'd be a brazier on a ship, but there is. The Vikings did it and so did the Elves. The trick is just placing it so that the hot edges of the iron appliance don't come into contact with the wood of the ship. There are rocks underneath it to prevent this from happening. On top of the brazier is a pot hanging from a loop of bent steel. Curufin goes to it and pours out a cup of hot herb-mulled tea. The spices make it invigorating and the warmth of the drink is good for any cold sailor, let alone a cold child who has recently been pulled out of the waves and handed onto the boat by a kindly ice-alien.

He brings her the cup and hands it to her.

video; shortly after she's rescued

[personal profile] hardwearing 2018-08-31 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Wash is really struggling not to completely flip his shit in this video.

It's not uncommon for El to wander off on her own for long stretches. Usually, he's not alarmed -- she's safe enough in the city, and has promised him repeatedly to always have her phone and her necklace on. The tracker is biometric, so if she were in danger he'd get a beacon. That's never happened... but this morning? The alert wasn't just for El's vitals going off the charts, it said she was way outside the city.

The only explanation is that she'd gotten on a boat. Without him, without even telling him, and now something horrible is happening out there and even if there was a seaworthy ship left he knows he'd never get there in time. So he struggles to keep calm until her vitals even out, hoping the whole time she doesn't get out of range or lose the necklace in whatever's going on.

As soon as his HUD is telling him El's okay, he's got his helmet back off and his phone in his hand. It's very obvious that he's freaking out in the video feed, whenever Eleven picks up. And trying not to seem pissed off, when in fact he very much is. The worry has taken over at this point, at least.

"El? El, tell me you're okay. Who are you with?"

When Eleven answered the call, she was soaking wet through, wrapped in a blanket of some kind, someone on the ship was kind enough to offer her. She looked like hell. Pale, dried blood crusted around her nostrils and blue-ish looking veins around her eyes and forehead. The whole thing, let alone using so much of her abilities really had taken it out of her, the poor thing.

She didn't know what she was thinking, when she snuck onboard of a boat, without even telling Wash, she knew he'd be worried- but then again, she also knew that he wouldn't have approved of her going on an expedition in the first place... Maybe he would have been right.

"I'm okay."

She uttered, refusing to look at the screen for a moment. Maybe feeling a little guilty as well as sorry for herself.

"I'm sorry."

Her apology came next, little eyes looking at him through the crackling video feed. A half smiled offered as a peace treaty if he would accept it. El didn't really know all the people on the boat. She thought she saw a couple of ladies and a few men that looked pretty enough to be female!

"Curufin took me in. He's nice. Oh, and a monster rescued me!"

Sounding almost excited about that last part, maybe more so than she should have been. Glacius had been terrifying when she first saw him, all pale and mouthless, humanoid and reminding her a little of the Demogorgon, but he was actually really very sweet! Pretty cool too! Hopefully, Wash could look past chastising her if he saw she was excited about some of this misadventure?

Child, you gave him a goddamn heart attack, you'd better be sorry. Wash visibly deflates in relief when she answers his call, though, shoulders dropping with a heavy exhale. Don't screech, she's okay, she's with someone Wash sorta kinda knows, getting angry at her won't help anything. She's just a little girl, he reminds himself, and scrubs at his face with the hand not holding the phone while he finds his composure. There's a little chastising, sorry El, but at least he's keeping his voice even.

"Eleven. Don't do this again, please. You scared the shit out of me, if you wanted to go so badly we would have figured it out, okay? I would have taken you or found someone who would, you can't just run off alone. Even I'm not going out by myself."

It's not just because she's a child who doesn't know shit about sailing -- can she even swim? -- it's an alien planet that's dangerous for everyone. And he's pretty sure whatever just happened to her to send her vitals off the charts was a result of no supervision. She's soaking wet and has clearly been overusing her powers, so he can make a few leaps of logic here.

"You fell into the water, huh? What monster rescued you?"
