Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for September
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: September 10th-13th
Warnings: Fresh meat, lots of rain and angry ogres

If the rain on your face isn't enough to wake you up in the colosseum, maybe the thundering footsteps and- well, thunder- is. The first thing that you may notice is that it's incredibly wet around here, with winds that could knock you over if you aren't careful and thunder that brings with it a torrent of constant rainfall.

That's all fine though, because the gods saw fit to help you out on your way in and now everyone will be waking up wearing a rain coat! These coats are a little odd, and some of them are downright silly, but we trust that you'll make do. Of course, a few of the raincoats have additional sleeves, neck holes, and entirely too many buttons as well- but hey, it's the best we could do.

Wait, what was that about thundering footsteps? Oh right, as you're navigating your new fashion choices, there are some monsters afoot who will want nothing more than to grind you into a pulp and eat you- well, if you're organic, that is. If you're not organic, then they still want to grind you to a pulp, but maybe not so much the eating part.

Ogres are from many fantasy stories, but these in particular are from the Dragon Age series. With incredible strength and stamina and massive horns, fangs, and a bloodlust for violence, these monsters won't stop until everyone around them is a blood smear on the ground. They're also not too happy about this rainfall either, so be careful not to slip in the puddles as you run away from them!

Once you've splashed around a bit, feel free to run off into the stormy abyss of our islands. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[ Drake's not a fan of the storm, but his priority when it hit hadn't been restocking his pantry -- he'd had enough to last one person about two weeks, and figured everyone else would be doomsday prepping and rebuilding their own stashes so hadn't hit the shops. Now, though, he's got two people to feed so goes back out to get this over with. He's in a standard yellow rain poncho that didn't completely protect him from getting wet but beggars can't be choosers, right?

It's no surprise that someone else is here, and Drake's on a mission so he doesn't engage at first when he comes in. The impending freakout is impossible to miss, though, and when the stranger slaps himself in the face Drake straightens up to be seen over the shelves.

He can't just let the guy have a nervous breakdown on his own. Hopefully his approach, one hand up and a bag of supplies in the other, won't alarm him further. ]

Hey. New guy. You're okay, just take a breath.

I am not okay, I'm pretty sure I've lost my mind because this definitely not New York!

[ This is too much. Jake doesn't really flinch back from Drake but doesn't stop pacing either. Maybe he's not cutting the most intimidating figure in his formal raincoat but he doesn't care.

He watched people fighting monsters in the middle of rainmageddon and now he's stuck grappling with the thought that this might be permanent and not a weird fever dream brought on by having to change his sleep patterns all over again. ]

No, it's not. It's Hadriel... I'd say there's a reasonable explanation but it's gonna sound like I've lost my mind too, until you calm down a little.

[ This is far from the first time Drake's been faced with his polar opposite, here or back home, and there are several tacks he could take but as usual he's gonna go the gentle route first. ]

Everybody goes through this, man. C'mon, look at me. You're from New York, huh? I've never been. West coast boy here, I hear it's pretty great though.

Oh yeah, it's great. Other than the poverty, the garbage, and all the crime.

[ It's Jake's god given right as an NYC native to drag it as much as he wants. Still, at least one person in this store isn't losing their freaking mind and talking like the world isn't ending.

Which it totally is, by the way. ]

Still the greatest city in the world, though.

[ Yeeeeeah Drake can tell the freakout is still happening, even if the guy is holding a conversation. Maybe a bit more distraction will help? He's not an expert on managing this sort of thing but he knows the basics of talking somebody down.

Getting them to focus on something else can work, right? ]

You'll have to prove that to me, I'll visit when we get out of here. Where's your favorite place?

[ That actually manages to derail the panic train a bit as Jake stops mid-pace as he tries to think of what his actual favorite place in the city is. Admittedly the city is a hot mess but the first thing that leaps to mind is easy.

It's where practically every celebration has happened since he joined the nine-nine, the place where everyone went from co-workers to friends. ]

...Shaw's bar in Brooklyn. Though a lot of cops go there so hopefully you don't hate them or anything.

Only very specific ones. But I'm surrounded by people who do.

[ Drake takes a moment to size the other man up, because you don't cite a cop bar as your favorite place unless you are a cop. You just don't. It's probably safe enough either way, and Drake doesn't keep this part of himself a secret anymore. Just doesn't usually offer it up first, either. Especially not in association with the Guard, because people do hate cops. Even in another dimension entirely.

He seems to come to a decision and extends a hand to the stranger hopefully. ]

Drake Holloway. Seattle PD.

[ Everyone hates cops, even cops hate other cops. Usually, specific ones who make your life hell but it still counts. Like the Vulture. That dick.

The surprise that tall, pale, and handsome is a cop isn't an unpleasant one. It's kind of a relief and Jake takes that hand. He's still losing his shit more than a little but he relaxes. ]

Jake Peralta, NYPD.

[ Yeah, that's where Drake's at. Benedetto is a dirty piece of shit and Drake would rather see him in jail than half the people they actually put away, but. Baby steps.

He shakes Jake's hand, grip firm and reassuring. ]

Nice to meet you, Jake. Are you breathing again enough for a welcome speech?

Let's say I am because this whole freak out train is not going to stop for a while.

[ If ever. But he's not slapping himself in the face anymore so it's a marked improvement on just a few minutes ago so Drake should take what he can get and give Jake the speech. ]

Speech me up, Drake.

Okay... I've been here over a year and it never sounds any less crazy, so brace yourself.

[ Where's a good place to start with someone who's already freaking out...? Hmm. Maybe he should just rip off the band aid. ]

How do you feel about aliens? Because we're on another planet run by inhuman life forms, and from what people who know about this shit have told me, probably in another plane of existence entirely. We're still working on how to get home.

Kidnapped by aliens. Awesome.

[ The bandaid came off fast and it hurts and Jake is not taking this well. Aliens aren't supposed to be a thing you worry about unless you live in arizona or visit some conspiracy forums on the internet. ]

Cool, cool, cool, cool, cool...

[ Oh boy. He's spiraling. ]

Stay with me, Jake. It's not the end of the world, promise.

I'm on another planet! That feels pretty world endy to me!

[ He's been spiraling since he nearly got mauled to death by an ogre. It's finally coming to a head though because Jake is not taking this well. ]

Is this what a panic attack feels like? Because I think my head is going to explode

[ Drake blinks, then starts moving. He may not have ever had one before himself, but between training and the company he keeps, he knows what to do. ]

Hey, come here. You're gonna be fine, buddy.

[ His grip on Jake is gentle as he leads the other man over to the corner of the shop, pressing him into it so there are walls on both sides, his hands on Jake's shoulders keeping him upright. Most people will curl up and that just makes it harder to breathe evenly. ]

Lean back and take deep breaths, it'll pass in a minute. Play a game with me, what's a 10-90 mean?
