If the rain on your face isn't enough to wake you up in the colosseum, maybe the thundering footsteps and- well, thunder- is. The first thing that you may notice is that it's incredibly wet around here, with winds that could knock you over if you aren't careful and thunder that brings with it a torrent of constant rainfall.
That's all fine though, because the gods saw fit to help you out on your way in and now everyone will be waking up wearing a rain coat! These coats are a little odd, and some of them are downright silly, but we trust that you'll make do. Of course, a few of the raincoats have additional sleeves, neck holes, and entirely too many buttons as well- but hey, it's the best we could do.
Wait, what was that about thundering footsteps? Oh right, as you're navigating your new fashion choices, there are some monsters afoot who will want nothing more than to grind you into a pulp and eat you- well, if you're organic, that is. If you're not organic, then they still want to grind you to a pulp, but maybe not so much the eating part.
Ogres are from many fantasy stories, but these in particular are from the Dragon Age series. With incredible strength and stamina and massive horns, fangs, and a bloodlust for violence, these monsters won't stop until everyone around them is a blood smear on the ground. They're also not too happy about this rainfall either, so be careful not to slip in the puddles as you run away from them!
Once you've splashed around a bit, feel free to run off into the stormy abyss of our islands. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers September 10th-13th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

she knows she is, that's why she did it] I think I can manage that. Hope you don't mind sweet and sour mix, though, I don't have any plain citrus. [she mixes the drink for him, pours it over ice, and places it in front of him] Here you go. Hope you enjoy.
[and her curiosity overcomes her]
So, what brings you to this neck of the woods?

[He doesn't mind answering. Conversation is better than silence to him when the company is good. He takes a sip of his drink, finding it perfectly acceptable. Rather tasty even, considering what he usually drinks.]
Oh, the Colosseum wasn't appealing in the rain. Too many monsters. [Tyki gestures dismissively, voice full of mirth and amusement. It's funny to him, speaking like this place is just a vacation full of destinations and interest. And not kidnapping and dangers.] Honestly, I just wanted a quiet place to figure out my cellular phone. [He holds it up, as if it's a very questionable thing indeed. Not just a bit of useful technology.] Phone back home weren't quite so... [He doesn't quite know what word he's looking for.] Complicated.

[she also much prefers conversation when she's in good company, which she seems to be in now]
Yeah? What kind did they throw in this time? [she barely remembers the monsters she had to avoid when she first arrived. she just remembers being so confused, waking up after being killed in her bloodstained lingerie] I don't blame you. The things are weird. They weren't so complicated in my day, either. Most people here are from some kind of Earth of the early 2000s. I'm from 1989.
[she offers a hand] My name's Laura Palmer. What's yours?
Warnings for death and flesh eatin' butterflies k
Tyki never expects a woman to be as she appears. Men either, to a lesser extent.
Tyki knows all about being sweet on the outside, rotten to the core within. He's the monster from fairy tales, the thief in the night who kisses the hand and literally removes the heart, and he loves it.] The pleasure is all mine. [There's a little smile then, a bit more sincere at the comment. The word pleasure has some hidden amusement for him.]
Large, horned things. Rather dramatic boys, no manners at all. [Tyki blinks.] You know, I never stopped to ask gender. But I suppose it doesn't help to be polite when someone is trying to maul you. [Someone, or more somethings got Tyki's precious Teez shoved inside and their organs nibbled and ripped at until they fell to the ground. Coughing and spasming and dying slowly, a painful punishment for the sin of going up against Lord Tyki Mikk.
Lather, rinse, repeat with the next unwanted bit of disgusting company.
He complains, he always does. But Tyki rather enjoyed having a monster or a few to take out his irritations on upon arrival.] We're both a bit behind, aren't we? All we can do then is our best. [Tyki takes her hand delicately, as if she's the finest of lady and not a once-dead girl behind a bar. And if she'll let him, he kisses it just so, something almost reverent in his actions.
Human, or no, she's his kind of person.] Laura? A lovely name. I'm Tyki. Tyki Mikk.
(cw: drug mention, prostitution)
since coming here, she's been much closer to Daytime Laura, but a big part of that has been the simple fact that she can't get access to cocaine anymore.
Laura's no longer sure she loves being Nighttime Laura. she'd been trying to corrupt and degrade herself to the point where a demon, BOB, would leave her alone. here, she's free of BOB and can make something close to a fresh start.
she notices the little smile and decides, why not flirt a little?]
Sounds dangerous. I'm glad I wasn't out in that. [she smiles and flutters her eyelashes a bit] But you look like someone who can handle himself. And, no, if someone's trying to maul you, there's no reason to be polite. [Laura's made great improvements in her archery skills thanks to Cecily, but she knows she'd be no match for something like he described.
still, she's come a long way from the terrified seventeen year old girl who arrived here.
the only monster Laura has in her sights is the resident demon, but it's been gone for nearly a month. part of Laura hopes it never comes back] Mmm, a little bit. I can help you with the phone if you don't mind? [an excuse to spend more time with him. and she lets him take her hand and kiss it as though she was some fine lady, she blushes prettily and bites her lower lip coquettishly for a moment.
he's her kind of person, too] It's really nice to meet you, Tyki.

But there's something about a beautiful blonde with warm mannerisms and a great sense of humor that really appeals to him. It makes him want to corrupt her. To take her out killing with him, to show her the worst of him in hopes she'd enjoy it.
Too bad he can't simply place Noah genes inside of a person and make them blossom, she'd be frightening with power. In the best sort of way.
But that's not possible. So he kills the thought before it takes root, he's been through this several times in this life alone. Some humans are just more interesting than others, and it makes him want to keep them around. To do something about that fragile mortality, and make them something like him. But then again, part of why he loves humans is that they're not like him. They're more interesting because they're weak and flawed and they have to work a hell of a lot harder than he does.] I'd love that. I'm afraid in my time, when dinosaurs still roamed the earth and we mostly used smoke signals for communication, cellulars just weren't readily available. Telephones didn't have buttons, either.
[To Tyki, she might as well be a fine court girl. She's well mannered and charming, with the right dress no one would think twice of her at the fanciest of parties. She just has that aura about her, that easy to adore energy that makes women like her irresistible.
But Tyki would find her far more fascinating if he knew what kind of struggles she's had to overcome. He likes her, he really does. But flaws make for a more fantastic human.] I'm glad there's someone here worth spending time with. It almost makes up for the kidnapping and monsters. [He withdraws his hand, eyes still on her, and he removes his phone from a pocket.] I'll make it up to you if you can get me some basic skills with this contraption, Laura.
(cw: drug mention, underage)
and even with all of the progress Laura has made in maturing, in squelching down Nighttime Laura, she'd enjoy being corrupted. and she's got a few people in Hadriel she'd like to see dead, even if it won't last.
she'd be flattered to know he thinks so. she's often felt like just another ordinary human compared to the superhumans who make up Hadriel's population. that's part of why she's gotten so serious about the bow. to even the odds.
Laura is weak and flawed and has to work really hard to stay a step ahead of her past. she's glad that there's no access to drugs stronger than pot here, otherwise she'd still be self-medicating with cocaine to make herself numb, to dull the pain of what she's been through. and she giggles at what he says about dinosaurs and smoke signals] I see. Well, Hadriel's gonna be a real adjustment for you. Let me know if there's any way I can help.
[she used to go to fine parties all the time at the Great Northern with her parents. she'd dress up, eat fine food, flirt with older men. it was fun. she misses having the chance to do that, now that it's gone.
learning the whole truth about Laura will take some time, some trust, and a lot of work at getting her to open up. but if he tries, he'll get there] I'm glad I'm worth spending time with. [she laughs] "Almost," huh? [and she eyes his phone] I can do that. They're really easy once you get the knack of them. It's just that getting the knack can be a little tricky.
