Intro Log: Puddle Jumpers

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for September
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: September 10th-13th
Warnings: Fresh meat, lots of rain and angry ogres

If the rain on your face isn't enough to wake you up in the colosseum, maybe the thundering footsteps and- well, thunder- is. The first thing that you may notice is that it's incredibly wet around here, with winds that could knock you over if you aren't careful and thunder that brings with it a torrent of constant rainfall.

That's all fine though, because the gods saw fit to help you out on your way in and now everyone will be waking up wearing a rain coat! These coats are a little odd, and some of them are downright silly, but we trust that you'll make do. Of course, a few of the raincoats have additional sleeves, neck holes, and entirely too many buttons as well- but hey, it's the best we could do.

Wait, what was that about thundering footsteps? Oh right, as you're navigating your new fashion choices, there are some monsters afoot who will want nothing more than to grind you into a pulp and eat you- well, if you're organic, that is. If you're not organic, then they still want to grind you to a pulp, but maybe not so much the eating part.

Ogres are from many fantasy stories, but these in particular are from the Dragon Age series. With incredible strength and stamina and massive horns, fangs, and a bloodlust for violence, these monsters won't stop until everyone around them is a blood smear on the ground. They're also not too happy about this rainfall either, so be careful not to slip in the puddles as you run away from them!

Once you've splashed around a bit, feel free to run off into the stormy abyss of our islands. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[To be fair, Taako doesn't know many orcs either, but he also isn't like most elves, so he doesn't tend to group. That said, she totally got the magic part right. He doesn't move to also cover her with the umbrella, crossing his arms.]

It'd probably be, uh, super racist to ask if you know her, but you're not kickin' around from Faerun, right?

[He eyes her over, looking for a bracer to match the small silver piece on his left arm engraved with a symbol.]

[ Kettara frowns. She's never heard of such a place. ]

No. I'm from Durotar.

[ Which he's probably never heard of, either. His eyes don't have the mana shine of a Blood Elf, and he's much too small to count as one of the Night Elves. In all likelihood, he's not from her world at all. ]

Are you looking for someone?

[Yeah, he's got big ears, but not that big. He certainly hasn't heard of wherever that is, but he's pretty used to that at this point.]

I mean, aren't we all, kinda.

[No, he won't clarify that.]

So do you make a habit of sitting on the floor in the rain? Cuz there are like, buildings. All over the place. You can just go into 'em.

I'm trying to contact the elements.

[ Kettara pushes wet bangs of her eyes. ]

It works better outside.

[He just squints at her like that sounds absolutely nuts.]

Uh... sure. You some kinda druid? Because everything here is weird ass magic so if you're trying to ring a god or something, good luck, because they're not around.

No. Not a druid.

[ But he knows what a druid is. That's a start. ]

I'm a shaman of the Earthen Ring. We commune with the elements. But I can't hear them, in this place.

[pocketspa]

[Shaman. Not... intimately familiar. It's a word he's heard from other people, but it's certainly not something he has a lot of info about. Usually it's a sidestep of a cleric, which he can reason with in his mind.]

Yeah, that's close enough. You're in another world. Sucks to suck if you need that for magic, so, good luck there. All of this place is some wigged out magic bullshit. Nothing's like, real.

[ Kettara frowns, watching him curiously. ]

What do you mean, not real?

[pocketspa]

Like, you're in another world. Nothing's the same magic realness as you're used to. Buncha stuff here was made by the liches who run the place, so it's all construct. So if you got some, uh, nature or world you're tryin' to reach, it's not gonna work.

[He's still a little salty about that. Thankfully as a wizard, he didn't have a large learning curve to get over when he got here. But his Cleric friend was shit out of luck without magic for a while, and that made healing difficult.]

[ She knows that word. Kettara works her jaw a moment, thinking. ]

But you--you can still call your power?

Yuuuuup. My stuff's from like, spells and things you put together? Not to a world, so.

[So as long as he had some components and his mind he can do whatever he wants.]

Anyway what I'm saying here is sitting in the rain probably isn't your answer right now if you're actually looking to do anything other than get wet.

[ Kettara frowns at him. ]

Wisdom comes from overcoming trials.

[ Necessary trials, though. When there's a worthy goal at the end. ]

How long have you been here?

Uhhh, sure.

[He's an int build, sorry.]

I mean, a while. Guess it depends how time works where you're from. A year plus, if you count a year as about 365 days with a 24 hour day. If that makes, uh, any sense.
