Intro Log: Puddle Jumpers

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for September
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: September 10th-13th
Warnings: Fresh meat, lots of rain and angry ogres

If the rain on your face isn't enough to wake you up in the colosseum, maybe the thundering footsteps and- well, thunder- is. The first thing that you may notice is that it's incredibly wet around here, with winds that could knock you over if you aren't careful and thunder that brings with it a torrent of constant rainfall.

That's all fine though, because the gods saw fit to help you out on your way in and now everyone will be waking up wearing a rain coat! These coats are a little odd, and some of them are downright silly, but we trust that you'll make do. Of course, a few of the raincoats have additional sleeves, neck holes, and entirely too many buttons as well- but hey, it's the best we could do.

Wait, what was that about thundering footsteps? Oh right, as you're navigating your new fashion choices, there are some monsters afoot who will want nothing more than to grind you into a pulp and eat you- well, if you're organic, that is. If you're not organic, then they still want to grind you to a pulp, but maybe not so much the eating part.

Ogres are from many fantasy stories, but these in particular are from the Dragon Age series. With incredible strength and stamina and massive horns, fangs, and a bloodlust for violence, these monsters won't stop until everyone around them is a blood smear on the ground. They're also not too happy about this rainfall either, so be careful not to slip in the puddles as you run away from them!

Once you've splashed around a bit, feel free to run off into the stormy abyss of our islands. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

Carolina.

[Off-hand, although not rudely. She's not exactly one for small talk to begin with, but the situation is also a little tricky. Usually it's get over whatever needs to be done, and then some chit-chat.

A nod in her direction.]

They look tough. Let's see if we can find a soft spot.

[Her own knives are smaller, one in each hand, each as deadly as the other.]

Nice to meet you. I'm on it, Carolina!!

[She launches herself right at the ogre without a second thought. Ruby sure is reckless sometimes. ]

Here goes nothing!!

[The ogre's standing on guard and it isn't gonna let itself get killed off so easily. What will they do next?]

[She does blink, finding something of herself in her. There is a small jerk of her head, hoping she'll notice that she can go off to the side and wait. Without her armor, Carolina knows she's not much of a match, but she doesn't plan on outlasting the creature or even matching it for brute strength.

Rather, she's going to start in, mindful of any strikes her way, and hope that she can get its focus on her enough with some stabs and strikes of her knife. Enough so that Ruby can move in again. She ducks, slashing out at the hand that comes her way, before darting to the opposite side where Ruby is.]

[ Seems like they can work together well. Ruby has high hopes for Carolina.

She makes note of the opening and runs ahead. As she's dashing forward she shoots out two bullets from her weapon.

Even if it doesn't do much damage it'll be a good distraction. ]

[It is an assumption that like humans, they have similar weak points. It's not like their skin appears to be made of armor, although they do seem to be tougher than your average human. She avoids a slap from the creature, twisting her knife back to lash out across the hand.

Can they understand English? We'll see.]

I'll try to bring him down. You finish it?

[Not exactly waiting for an answer, she's engaging the creature again. A clip to her leg causes a hiss, yet doesn't slow her down as she slides behind, stabbing the back of one knee with one hand while the other seeks to ham-string.]

I'm on it! Ruby Rose special coming right up!!

[ When she runs there's a small trail of rose petals left in her path. It seems safe to get in a little closer for a fatal blow.

Her scythe is sharp enough to deal some considerable damage.]

He's looking at me funny. Yeah, maybe I should run for it. What do you think?

[Well, she can't exactly see where he is looking at the moment, and she's not going to pause to confirm or deny. If his focus is back on her, Carolina's going to shift it again, with a roll, she's aiming for the other leg, noticing that her previous wounds are already starting to heal.]

Either we take it down, or we get out of here.

I'm leaning towards getting the heck out of here?

[Ruby sounds frantic almost. Her eyes shift around looking for a suitable opening so they can run for it. ]

Okay!! Let's go with that.

[She nods, avoiding a clubbed fist that comes back handed in her direction. She really should have worn her armor. Heck, she'll likely come back with it later to help clean this up before it becomes an even bigger mess.]

Head south-west on three.

[Because she's giving a stab in the leg, recalling from experience how much a pain in the ass that is, and slicing down. It should buy them a few minutes as Carolina slips on the mud, before rightening herself.]

Go.

Gotta go!!! That's the cue.

[ For a second it seems like Ruby vanishes out of sight. She's small but she makes up for it by having high mobility. Fleeing won't be an issue for her. Hopefully Carolina can get out unscatched.]

Alright! I got this. It's okay now.

[What... The...

Carolina has seen plenty of things since her arrival here, but even she has to do a double take. Assuming that she's done something to get herself out of there, Carolina doesn't wait around. Her own feet slosh through the puddles, which do hinder her, but also seem to hinder the creatures as she takes off in the direction. It's not until she stops hearing the beast that she slows, nearing the edge of the Colosseum.]

[ Within a few moments they'll be out of the Colosseum and away from the monster! Phew. Ruby takes in a few deep breaths. ]

Looks like you made it.

[ She waves her hand and smiles brightly towards Carolina.]

There's nothing weird standing in this area. I checked.

[She is a little winded and a lot muddy. Better than injured though, so she'll take it any day. Glancing over, there is a wry expression on her lips.]

They don't tend to make it this far this early.

[Not usually, anyway. No doubt they are as confused as the beings that arrive. They're tough. There's no questioning that.]

Aha! So they're stuck there. Good! I don't wanna deal with it ever again.

[Ruby inhales and exhales deeply. They managed to get away this time but they aren't completely safe. It makes her feel a little nervous. ]

That was gross and it's not how I want to spend my day. You get me, right?

They're stuck on this island, unless they find a way across the waters.

[She doesn't think that they would be leaving... They didn't seem the most intelligent, and the water is choppy at best most days. With the rain? It's likely even worse.]

It's fairly common, at least if you come around here during these days. Otherwise, aside from the rain, you're unlikely to find too much.

[Why this place can't bring in chickens or something... Roasted sounds good right about now instead of whatever they can scrounge up.]

Oh, wow. Sure sounds busy around here.

[Ruby makes a dismissive hand gesture and points to the place around them.]

Hearing that puts me at ease. I'm supposed to be heading towards Mistral. Guessing I can forget about my travel plans for now?

[Seeing as they have no way back....so much for that. ]

I guess you can say that they've been put on pause.

[Carolina doesn't know where Mistral is, although by now, it's not that surprising. A fair number of people do seem to come from Earth, but she is aware of those who are from different places as well. Anyway, not like the concept of an alien is a foreign one to her. She's known of the existence of aliens since she can remember.]

People do leave, but how they manage is the question.

Maybe they got lucky?

[Ruby doesn't sound entirely convinced that's the answer to it all.]

I dunno. But hey, if there's a way out that means we can't give up! We gotta keep trying!!

Seems about as legit an answer as one can get here.

[Not that she wouldn't protect Caboose with her life, but he doesn't exactly scream smart. If anything, he likely had just stumbled upon the way out. Probably hadn't even meant to do it, knowing him.]

This place isn't all bad.

I sure hope so, Carolina! I'm going to keep staying positive and I'll do my very best.

[That's what she's been doing up until now. There's no reason for her to suddenly change her views. Ruby seems set for the most part.]

Let's work together!

[Is that a saying that she says, or does she actually mean that? It's not that Carolina isn't a team player, although she can say that sometime she is not, especially when people don't listen. She'd guess that she is a teenager, and a fairly chipper one at that. In a way, her and Caboose likely would have gotten along wonderfully.]

I- ya, I'll let you know if I find anything.

[Ruby waves at Carolina and offers her a high five. Her palm is open awkwardly like that. ]

Gimme a high five. Please?

[There is a moment, glancing at that hand that she is leaving hanging. She doesn't really... high five. But with that please, she does raise her own hand. It's not the most enthusiastic high five in the history of high fives, but it is one.]

How about you thank me if I find anything.

[ It's something! and that's enough to get Ruby to smile. ]

Okay! I'll do that.

[She lets out a cheer and then jumps up high!]

Saying thanks is easy.

[Okay. Yes. She is pretty chipper, isn't she.]

True, but I also haven't done anything yet.

[Well, with respect to the information anyway.]
