Intro Log: Puddle Jumpers

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for September
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: September 10th-13th
Warnings: Fresh meat, lots of rain and angry ogres

If the rain on your face isn't enough to wake you up in the colosseum, maybe the thundering footsteps and- well, thunder- is. The first thing that you may notice is that it's incredibly wet around here, with winds that could knock you over if you aren't careful and thunder that brings with it a torrent of constant rainfall.

That's all fine though, because the gods saw fit to help you out on your way in and now everyone will be waking up wearing a rain coat! These coats are a little odd, and some of them are downright silly, but we trust that you'll make do. Of course, a few of the raincoats have additional sleeves, neck holes, and entirely too many buttons as well- but hey, it's the best we could do.

Wait, what was that about thundering footsteps? Oh right, as you're navigating your new fashion choices, there are some monsters afoot who will want nothing more than to grind you into a pulp and eat you- well, if you're organic, that is. If you're not organic, then they still want to grind you to a pulp, but maybe not so much the eating part.

Ogres are from many fantasy stories, but these in particular are from the Dragon Age series. With incredible strength and stamina and massive horns, fangs, and a bloodlust for violence, these monsters won't stop until everyone around them is a blood smear on the ground. They're also not too happy about this rainfall either, so be careful not to slip in the puddles as you run away from them!

Once you've splashed around a bit, feel free to run off into the stormy abyss of our islands. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

► This log covers September 10th-13th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

Y'think?

( Yeah, if only that was the explanation for it all. Being back in her flat and her world sounds a whole hell of a lot nicer than being stuck in this half-destroyed city fighting monsters on the regular.

Fuck, she doesn't want to think about these things running around the city after all of this. So, as soon as the next arrow hits, she's working on another—

And that sure is a hand trying to flatten the annoying little fleas that are these two humans, huh?
)

...Crap.

( Time to move, Jake!

Oh, and by the way:
) You— ( Ugh, too close a call ) — You got a weapon?

You just bow hunted it twice!

[ Who even uses a bow and arrow outside of Terry's nerd books? Besides actual athletes and hunters and... well okay a lot of people use them but not against giant monsters! ]

Do you think a bullet is going to make it less angry? Because I know what my guess is!

[ Another swipe and this time Jake reaches to pull Kate back. God, what he wouldn't give for some fancy SWAT gear. Or maybe to not be stuck in a nightmare. That would be nice. ]

( People who live in a city where getting bullets requires corpses. And people who didn't carry their guns on them when they got dragged through the door.

Thankfully, he manages to drag her out of the way, and a low noise of frustration rumbles from the base of her throat. What a fucking pain these things are.
)

Think it'd be more dead.

( It's a big, heavy bow, and each arrow has done some damage, but apparently not enough, because who needs logic when you're a great hulking angry monster? )

[ Jake really doesn't want to pull out his gun on this thing but even he knows when enough is enough. He draws on the monster and fires off three shots centered around its chest which is a pretty big target. And for a moment it almost seems effective. The monster rears back and roars in pain.

Except then it does another one of those really angry roars and it is definitely not dead yet. ]

I told you! It's angrier now!

...Dammit.

( That's not good. And if this thing isn't dead, it's gonna roam the island until the few buildings that weren't destroyed back in the invasion are.

She growls, the next arrow flying impossibly quick, aiming right for the thing's head with two arrows loosed as rapidly as she can manage.

One of them in the eye or the brain would be great right now, but Kate is going to have to bite the bullet and take the loss here, grabbing the new guy by the wrist as soon as she looses the second.
)

C'mon.

[ Oh, great. Running. What he wanted to do in the first place. Watching Kate turn that thing into a pin cushion is, admittedly, pretty badass but it turns out that watching a monster get stabbed is only exciting when you aren't right there in front of it in real life.

Totally weird, right?

When she grabs him he goes with her, never quite taking his eyes off that ogre because it still looks pissed even though it's been severely wounded. ]

So is this normal for you? Because I'm kinda freaking out right now!

( It's not really exciting as much as it is necessary, in her opinion, but it's clear they need more firepower than a gun and her bow can manage. So... retreat, for now. Hope that someone who does have the requisite firepower runs into it instead of someone helpless.

Her jaw tightens at the thought, but she'll have to come back once this guy is safe. A quick dash to the nearest arching exit — leading into a maze of tunnels — and she doesn't stop or speak until they're so far in the tunnels under the Colosseum's seats that she can't see the door leading back in.
)

Not that big, normally. But aye.

( It be like that sometimes. )
