If the rain on your face isn't enough to wake you up in the colosseum, maybe the thundering footsteps and- well, thunder- is. The first thing that you may notice is that it's incredibly wet around here, with winds that could knock you over if you aren't careful and thunder that brings with it a torrent of constant rainfall.
That's all fine though, because the gods saw fit to help you out on your way in and now everyone will be waking up wearing a rain coat! These coats are a little odd, and some of them are downright silly, but we trust that you'll make do. Of course, a few of the raincoats have additional sleeves, neck holes, and entirely too many buttons as well- but hey, it's the best we could do.
Wait, what was that about thundering footsteps? Oh right, as you're navigating your new fashion choices, there are some monsters afoot who will want nothing more than to grind you into a pulp and eat you- well, if you're organic, that is. If you're not organic, then they still want to grind you to a pulp, but maybe not so much the eating part.
Ogres are from many fantasy stories, but these in particular are from the Dragon Age series. With incredible strength and stamina and massive horns, fangs, and a bloodlust for violence, these monsters won't stop until everyone around them is a blood smear on the ground. They're also not too happy about this rainfall either, so be careful not to slip in the puddles as you run away from them!
Once you've splashed around a bit, feel free to run off into the stormy abyss of our islands. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers September 10th-13th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

They are very useful. This technology doesn't exist where you're from?
[Just easing into prying a bit.]
no subject
No, it most certainly does not. Networks as I know them have to be wired, although we can broadcast radio signals. This might be like a pip-boy, if they had cameras? I've only ever seen one of those in person.
[ What a novelty. DiMA cuts the call, then scrolls through the list Connor brought up to find Nick's name on it. ]
Would you mind if I made a call now?
no subject
At the question he's a little surprised, but--]
If you'd like to.
[Connor will just... Awkwardly stand off to the side and listen?]
no subject
This is not quite as planned now, but as he's peering at the screen to see if there are instructions, the camera flicks back on to record a message. Oh. Okay. He pulls the phone back to a comfortable distance and leaves the following message, then glances back to Connor. Does he just hang up? Oh wait, there's a send button. ]
Now I just press this? [ Yup, that seems to have done it. Now he waits, he supposes, and glances out the window again. ] I hope he's inside.
no subject
He likely is. He spends a lot of time at the Guard post, which is indoors.
no subject
[ DiMA nods once, and sees an opening for another question. Connor didn't seem to know how long Nick had been here to become a commander of it, but he's not certain what the Guard is in the first place either. ]
What is the Guard, exactly? I'd go there myself to inquire but it looks like I'll have to wait out this storm.
no subject
[Although he's pretty sure the storm is actually preventing a lot of the Guard from doing their jobs, which kind of negates the point, but whatever. They're trying, at least, and Connor can't necessarily blame them; he has to step back on his own patrolling efforts after nearly being struck by lightning a few days ago himself.]
no subject
[ It's when groups like that develop agendas that they become problematic -- he's familiar with several in the Commonwealth, though he hasn't ever engaged them himself. ]
There was an organized-seeming group of fighters in the arena I arrived in earlier. Perhaps that was some of them.
no subject
[And Connor's kept his own distance a little even as a part of it; he doesn't mind danger, but being in danger while in the company of someone else is a big risk for him. One small cut that causes him to bleed blue instead of red and he'll have to explain, and enough people have found out about his android nature against his wishes already.]
There are a few other general organizations, however, that I believe the Guard works with, such as the Clinic and the Firestation.
no subject
[ He nods his acknowledgment of the other organizations, he saw them mentioned -- and has already visited one of their headquarters. ]
The clinic seemed well organized. The young man I brought in was assisted immediately despite the crowd. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be of much help to any of these groups in my current state.
no subject
[Connor definitely has a favorable opinion of Nick, and he hopes this person really is who he says he is. This seems like a good opportunity to ask, though--]
You call him your brother?
[He asks it lightly, genuinely curious, not skeptical. As for the Clinic, though, he's a little less positive.]
For dealing with humans and similar species, yes, they are.
[With the obvious implication that otherwise, not so much. Which is unfortunately, especially considering DiMA's last comment.]
Is there any way to improve your physical condition?
[He isn't sure what repairs are or aren't even possible for him.]
no subject
[ He doesn't go into Nick's side of it, uncertain how the other synth would like him telling their history to someone else before they've even reunited. Connor seems like an acquaintance at least, but DiMA is respectful.
The news about the clinic only serving organic species isn't surprising, but yes, it is also unfortunate for him. ]
It depends what you mean by improve. I require regular maintenance back home, and soon enough will need to find a way to power my memory bank. [ He gestures to the trash-bag wrapped bundle he entered with, cradled like a precious thing to his damaged chest. ] It's hard to come by the appropriate parts back home, I don't imagine it'll be any easier here. My personal engineer, Faraday, has cobbled together solutions over the years just to keep me running.
[ He gestures to his.... all of him. The augmentations. ]
no subject
Instead he focuses primarily on the answer about repairs and is immediately considering options. Unfortunately, even the most basic things seem difficult for them to acquire; Connor isn't even confident that if he took apart an outlet it would even have real wiring, let alone any way to power the memory bank. Other repairs are even more difficult, but he does at least have an idea of where to start.]
Once the storm passes, you should speak with Alphys at the Lab. There's a computer there, so she must have some method of providing power to a system, and so may be able to charge your memory bank. More extensive repairs, such as components or exterior shell additions or modifications, as something we're still attempting to find a solution for.
[And by 'still attempting' he means 'basically just started' because apparently it hasn't been a real concern. He's still quite annoyed by that.]
no subject
I will do so, then, thank you for the recommendation. If she can power my bank and perhaps assist in a bit of waterproofing, I don't mind issues like my own run-down appearance. We've simply been repairing me as much as possible as things break, and I expect my time here will be more of the same unless you succeed in... how exactly are you attempting to find a solution? The trouble in my world is a lack of supply.
It's not like I got a good look in the storm, but this doesn't seem like a particularly industrial area.
