Intro Log: Puddle Jumpers

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for September
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: September 10th-13th
Warnings: Fresh meat, lots of rain and angry ogres

If the rain on your face isn't enough to wake you up in the colosseum, maybe the thundering footsteps and- well, thunder- is. The first thing that you may notice is that it's incredibly wet around here, with winds that could knock you over if you aren't careful and thunder that brings with it a torrent of constant rainfall.

That's all fine though, because the gods saw fit to help you out on your way in and now everyone will be waking up wearing a rain coat! These coats are a little odd, and some of them are downright silly, but we trust that you'll make do. Of course, a few of the raincoats have additional sleeves, neck holes, and entirely too many buttons as well- but hey, it's the best we could do.

Wait, what was that about thundering footsteps? Oh right, as you're navigating your new fashion choices, there are some monsters afoot who will want nothing more than to grind you into a pulp and eat you- well, if you're organic, that is. If you're not organic, then they still want to grind you to a pulp, but maybe not so much the eating part.

Ogres are from many fantasy stories, but these in particular are from the Dragon Age series. With incredible strength and stamina and massive horns, fangs, and a bloodlust for violence, these monsters won't stop until everyone around them is a blood smear on the ground. They're also not too happy about this rainfall either, so be careful not to slip in the puddles as you run away from them!

Once you've splashed around a bit, feel free to run off into the stormy abyss of our islands. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

► This log covers September 10th-13th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

never apologize for starscream

[Oh boy. This is fun already. The guy insists on being called Lord? And he thinks Tucker's a human, but so does almost everyone else. And hey, maybe in giant robot land, they don't make much of a distinction.

In any case, Lord Starscream seems pretty irritated, so it's best to go for a calming approach.]

Sorry, my bad. [Tucker holds up his hands in the universal gesture of surrender.] Didn't mean any harm. I'm Tucker, your... Lordship? Just wondered if you accidentally ended up here some other way. Do you think you could make it off this dumb rock, or would you need one of those space bridges?
traitory: (⓬ inquisitive)

but he's him so I must apologize inherently ):

[ Listen Starscream has a poor track record of knowing what humans are. He'll roll his eyes and shrug his shoulders. ]

Of course. It's called a space bridge for a reason. It can literally traverse you to planets across the universe...with the right coordinates and application.

[The idea of even building one here though is...laughable, so he does laugh. ]

But finding the required materials to build one on this scrap heap will never happen.

[ What are they going to use? A bunch of Null corpses? Not only that but his knowledge in building one is flimsy at best. ]

[Tucker considers that for a minute. Supposing they actually had a shopping list, so to speak, he can imagine a scenario in which they could acquire the right materials. A little double dealing with the gods, a little creative substitution, a little roping in the other people in this place who know a thing or two about space travel. It's not completely unfeasible. Probably.]

Do you... actually know how to build one? We've got ways of gettin' stuff around here. You might be surprised.
traitory: (② incredulous)

You want to build a space bridge? [ He just laughs at that. Ah, that's a good one. Give him a second to regain his composure. ]

You have no idea how complex and huge a space bridge is to build. But I will give you a pass considering you are human. Building one takes time and even then, the amount of energon needed to power it would be impossible to find on this scrap heap.

[ He says all of that with an annoyed tone of voice. As if building something like that was just a quick and easy project. ] But if you must know I have...some dealings with building them. But they are not my...specialty.

Well, yeah, you're right. I don't know shit about space.

[Self-deprecation works better with people who have big egos. Admit that Lord Starscream is smarter than him, and it might win him some subtle favor.]

I wasn't plannin' to build it myself. Once you tell everyone you know how to make a way outta here, you'll have a line of volunteers a mile long. But you've got a good point about the energy thing.

[He's... assuming that's what energon means.]

All we have here's a generator, and it's kinda busted, last I checked.
traitory: (⑧ thoughtful)

[ It does wonders for his ego so it's a good move on Tucker's part. Starscream snorts in amusement at the self deprecation. ]

Yes, well, humans and their own space travel are quite...primitive. I don't expect them to know very much in terms of it.

[ Though he does tap his chin as he brings a hand up thoughtfully. ]

One lousy generator will never work. But...if I can harvest and stock up enough energon that might be enough to get us off this forsaken rock. But it's implementing it that will be the tricky part.

[ Also the fact that he still knows very little about constructing a space bridge from the bottom up. But details. ]

[personal profile] nowherewolf 2018-09-26 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
[Yeah, details.]

Alright, and this, uh, "energon" stuff? How do you harvest that?

[Tucker's never heard of it in his life, but maybe it's just some robot alien word for a really common resource, like water or rocks. Preferably water or rocks. Since that's... pretty much all they got, here.]
traitory: (⑩ untroubled)

[personal profile] traitory 2018-09-29 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
It is usually in a crystallized form, but we have methods of processing it into a more valuable liquid form. It's easier for us to ingest and to apply to our technologies.

[ Which is becoming increasingly apparent that he's not going to find much of that here. ]

But if what these other humans have told me, there might be some in the store here. Generously provided by the...gods of this place. [ 'Gods' said with no small amount of sarcasm. Tell us how you really feel, Starscream. ]
nowherewolf: <lj user=swansong> (better)

[personal profile] nowherewolf 2018-10-01 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh, so they eat it, too. Makes sense. If it powers some big world-hopping machine, it could also power robot people. Who are, kind of, also machines.]

Yeah, could be an issue. They might only give enough for you to eat. You'd have to be willing to save some every week, and I realize that's kind of a lot to ask.

[It isn't, not for potentially getting out of here, but he needs to seem nicer than he actually is if this is going to work. Don't make demands, just suggestions.]
