If the rain on your face isn't enough to wake you up in the colosseum, maybe the thundering footsteps and- well, thunder- is. The first thing that you may notice is that it's incredibly wet around here, with winds that could knock you over if you aren't careful and thunder that brings with it a torrent of constant rainfall.
That's all fine though, because the gods saw fit to help you out on your way in and now everyone will be waking up wearing a rain coat! These coats are a little odd, and some of them are downright silly, but we trust that you'll make do. Of course, a few of the raincoats have additional sleeves, neck holes, and entirely too many buttons as well- but hey, it's the best we could do.
Wait, what was that about thundering footsteps? Oh right, as you're navigating your new fashion choices, there are some monsters afoot who will want nothing more than to grind you into a pulp and eat you- well, if you're organic, that is. If you're not organic, then they still want to grind you to a pulp, but maybe not so much the eating part.
Ogres are from many fantasy stories, but these in particular are from the Dragon Age series. With incredible strength and stamina and massive horns, fangs, and a bloodlust for violence, these monsters won't stop until everyone around them is a blood smear on the ground. They're also not too happy about this rainfall either, so be careful not to slip in the puddles as you run away from them!
Once you've splashed around a bit, feel free to run off into the stormy abyss of our islands. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers September 10th-13th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
Mettaton | Open and Closed
[Look. Mettaton had done his time waking up in places he did or did not recognize. And he's also probably done his time waking up without knowing how he'd even gotten here. The main thing thing on his mind was, of course, where Alphys was. The one thing he did remember was her being in a particularly vulnerable state.
...Which isn't new.
Imagine his surprise when he gets to his feet and realizes he's clad in a gaudy raincoat that makes him look like a flower.]
Another day in paradise, I suppose.
[He's not going to ask questions, or even wonder too hard. Hadriel's just as obnoxious as it ever is, and this is probably some strange happening as per usual. But...don't arrivals from the Door usually end up in this place? They're definitely playing loose with their own storyline. 2/10, revisions needed.
Unfortunately though...he realizes quickly that he doesn't have time to ruminate on matters, because the raincoat is a poor covering to prevent water getting into his circuitry. He can't afford to stay outside, and so Mettaton begins to run to whatever shelter he can find.
Eventually, he finds a spot to hunker down for the moment, letting out an honestly dramatic, long suffering sigh that didn't really match the situation.]
Rain? I mean honestly, how immature.
B. What Happens When an Ogre Gets Struck By Lightning?
As it turns out, there's no rest for the wicked, and Mettaton's hiding spot does little to prevent an ogre from catching sight of him. He, on the other hand, would have loved if he never had to look upon such a disgusting creature ever again.
Though...it did present an opportunity most fortuitous to let him vent out his...aggravations. So once he'd had quite enough of "tactical retreat", Mettaton spun on his heel and extended his arms out in a wide gesture.
It momentarily confused the ogre, because...what is this weird metal man doing?
"Well well well~ Since you seem so interested in an autograph from the most splendid robot in all of Hadriel, I suppose I should oblige you!! Really, aren't you just the most energetic fan?!" he exclaims loudly, but there's something about his voice. Something that doesn't seem all that pleasant, like a candy coated knife.
"But first, I'd like to ask you a question," Mettaton added simply, raising a hand. There's a spark at his gloved fingertips, subtle of course. The ogre grows bored of such theatrics easily because it's an ogre, and rushes towards Mettaton. Perhaps that could have been thought out better.
"Did you know that water is very conductive?"
Immediately after the last word rolls off of Mettaton's tongue, a more pronounced bolt of electricity blasts into existence, trailing a path towards the creature. The enemy.
...Naturally, it only serves to piss the ogre off for however much harm it does. Mettaton doesn't care though. The thought that he might need help never crosses his mind because it doesn't matter!
Still. Help is something he needs. This ogre's a big guy and Mettaton's movements are in danger of causing damage to him as a raincoat can only prevent so much.
C. Let's play Catch-Up [Closed to Alphys]
[Finally...Mettaton's made his way out of the colosseum only to find that the landscape was definitely different from what he expected. So here he is, covered in a soggy raincoat and experiencing some annoying power flickers in his limbs due to the rain. He has to get inside. He has to dry off.
Clearly, the most immediate solution here is to text Alphys with a thinly-veiled SOS.]
ALPHYS, SWEETHEART!!! I'M AFRAID THINGS HAVE BECOME A LTITLE UNFAMILIAR AROUND HERE!!! ARE YOU ALRIGHT? THIS RAIN IS AWFUL! >:(
PS THIS RAIN IS PARTICULARLY AWFUL TO ME. METAL AND THE LIKE.
SO WOULD YOU BE A SWEETIE AND PICK ME UP??? HONESTLY, THE THINGS THIS PLACE GETS UP TO, WEREN'T WE ALREADY IN THE MIDDLE OF A COMPLETELY UNRELATED ISSUE?? AT ANY RATE I'M RAMBLING, PLEASE ANSWER BACK QUICKLY!!!
[Oh, dear...
He has absolutely no idea how long he's been gone.]
B
Seeing groups of people fighting off monsters wasn’t anything new, but she makes an effort to save those who look overwhelmed. It’s hard to see Mettaton’s robot features through the rain, all Mewtwo can make out is a human figure struggling with an Orge.
So that Orge is getting a psychic blast to the face, and Mewtwo floats down between Mettaton and the Orge.]
Hurry and leave! I’ll handle this!
no subject
Mettaton appreciates the help, but...what?! There's a giant glowing creature in front of him projecting a message into his head and he doesn't yet know why, though it is a little troubling that the creature can do it at all.
That being said...]
You are more than welcome to offer your assistance, but this is and remains my fight!
[He's not getting ousted from a chance to vent his...frustrations, so to speak.
The ogre has no intention of being distracted by the conversation it seems, and swings an arm viciously at the Pokèmon before it.]
no subject
She doesn't seem to trust Mettaton to handle the fight himself, but... she doesn't really trust any (supposed) human here to have things under control.
Luckily the orge stumbles, but it isn't defeated.]
Can you defeat it?
no subject
Her asking him whether he would be able to defeat the enemy was a little distracting though. Fair, he supposes, as this was their first time meeting. Still, Mettaton puts a hand to his chest, faux gasping in obvious (if conflated) insult.]
You wound me! Of course I can defeat it. All it would take is a little time, I think! Would you be a dear and help with that?
[Electricity crackles at his fingertips once more, spreading along the raindrops a fair distance before ebbing. It's up to her whether she believes in his abilities, but Mettaton's just itching to unleash some real magic.]</small
no subject
[She pauses, eyes widening in surprise that she forgets what she's saying. It's... electricity? Either way, it catches her off guard enough that Mettaton's more than welcome to fire off a magical attack.]
no subject
Ohhh, he hopes it hurts. How dare this creature attack him so thoughtlessly?
The creature is forced to take a knee from the power of Mettaton's attack, but the cat monster is easily within her rights to join in at this point. For his part, Mettaton's going to rally a little--the water's starting to seep into the gaps between his arm segments now.
Very uncomfortable.]
You're up, darling...
dabs
Mettaton disappeared back when they were all kids running around; she woke up from her god-induced nap to find him missing, his phone line dead. Normally, she would have made some sort of announcement, but-- it was just too much. To be alone, to be the last monster still here... well. It was a lot. Too much to take public.
So to get a text, idly grab her phone, and see his name caused a scream and a hasty drop like she had been burned, followed by a scramble to the floor to grab it and reread the words over and over.
He's here. He's-- back.
He remembers she's here.
Her hands are shaking too much to respond via text, and while she's never been a fan of using her voice, she has to know this is real right now. Prepare to be screamed at, Metta.]
Metta, M-Metta, please answer, I, I-- is that really you!? Please, tell me you can hear me, oh my god--
[She'll just blow up here it's fine. So good.]
ohhhhh i missed these two
The second...is that she even decided on a video feed at all, given how nervous she was at the best of times. It must mean something.
He winces at her volume, pausing momentarily before answering because she's pretty much close to verifying what he was afraid of, deep down. Not that he should be afraid that he was gone, not really. So what? Here, there, home...it's all potentially terrible just as much as it might be good.
But he'd left her alone...if that was the case.
Better play it off. That's better right? HIDE YOUR FEELINGS!]
Of course it's me, silly!! Why are you so overwrought, it's just something the Gods have done right? They just put me back in the Colosseum for whatever reason, it's so difficult trying to keep up with their capriciousness!
[A pause.]
So, how about that pickup, sweetheart?
[Please don't let this have been a long gap...the longer he's been gone the more he'll owe Alphys for possibly upsetting her.
...Definitely upsetting her.]
god me too!!!
I'll-- I'll be right there! I promise! Find somewhere safe I'll come get you!
[She's skittering out of the lab as fast as she can, throwing a screwdriver into her pockets and grabbing an umbrella on the way out the door, though she's sure it'll be largely pointless considering all the wind.]
Is there anything in the Coliseum? D-Did you make it out??
such late. but like. i NEED this.
[Although Mettaton knows better than to hang up, he almost wishes Alphys couldn't see him at this point. He knows that he looks guilty, and it takes every single ounce of restraint in him not to apologize, practically prostrate himself before her and express how much he knows he's screwed up.
Even...if he wasn't really in control of his coming or going. He should be, shouldn't he?! He's Mettaton...!
That used to mean something.
Regardless, the expression is forced away, and he glances around, trying to get his bearings a little better. It's hard--not everything looks the same as he remembers it.]
There were some ghastly ogres trying to disassemble me, but of course you know just as well as I that there's no competition!!
[As usual when it comes to such subjects, there's a mild, discomforting aggression just under the surface. Look, he'd been getting better before. He hadn't had as much LOVE in him as he had before. But...it's not all going to go away like Hadriel's a magical fairy tale place now, is it?]
...Anyway, I'm a little ways north of it, around a temple. Does that help?
SHHH ITS OK
Yeah, it's-- I'm coming from the Lab. It's on the same island, so it'll be quick.
[Oh dang, she's gonna have to explain the islands also. How long ago did he disappear...? It feels like a lifetime.]
Just stay there, and I'll come, and we'll g-get to the Lab. Okay?
[She says like she isn't already jogging there, knowing the path well after nearly two years of traversing the city. She doesn't recall which god's temple it is, but she doesn't much care as she puffs her way nearby and just starts yelling outside of the phone.]
Metta? Metta! It's me, I'm-- I'm here!
