Intro Log: Puddle Jumpers

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for September
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: September 10th-13th
Warnings: Fresh meat, lots of rain and angry ogres

If the rain on your face isn't enough to wake you up in the colosseum, maybe the thundering footsteps and- well, thunder- is. The first thing that you may notice is that it's incredibly wet around here, with winds that could knock you over if you aren't careful and thunder that brings with it a torrent of constant rainfall.

That's all fine though, because the gods saw fit to help you out on your way in and now everyone will be waking up wearing a rain coat! These coats are a little odd, and some of them are downright silly, but we trust that you'll make do. Of course, a few of the raincoats have additional sleeves, neck holes, and entirely too many buttons as well- but hey, it's the best we could do.

Wait, what was that about thundering footsteps? Oh right, as you're navigating your new fashion choices, there are some monsters afoot who will want nothing more than to grind you into a pulp and eat you- well, if you're organic, that is. If you're not organic, then they still want to grind you to a pulp, but maybe not so much the eating part.

Ogres are from many fantasy stories, but these in particular are from the Dragon Age series. With incredible strength and stamina and massive horns, fangs, and a bloodlust for violence, these monsters won't stop until everyone around them is a blood smear on the ground. They're also not too happy about this rainfall either, so be careful not to slip in the puddles as you run away from them!

Once you've splashed around a bit, feel free to run off into the stormy abyss of our islands. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

I wouldn't consider myself lucky. Well, here we are.

[ She smiles in a friendly way to Tinya. ]

I'm from a place called Remnant. It wasn't perfect or anything! I mean, we had monsters like that running around all the time. Sooo....that's why I can fight well.

[ Her skill in combat earlier wasn't just for show. She spent a long time developing those moves back home. ]

[unphase]

Here we are, indeed. You probably haven't had the chance to read the "newbie guide" yet. That's a good place to start, but if you have any questions, I'll try to answer. I've only been here a month myself.

[she gives a friendly smile back]

You're really good. I'm good at hand-to-hand combat, but this was my first time using a weapon.

[her first time killing, too. back home, her friends would be aghast]

Hahah, I'm sure I'll have plenty of time to figure this out.

[Her mission and duties at home will have to wait. That's a shame. ]

Thank you!! You were incredible and that was your first time? You were all like Hiya!!!!! Looked like a real pro.

[She tries to imitate Tinya's fighting style with hand motion karate chops.]

You probably will. Once this place has you, it seems to have trouble letting go.

[and she won't know if the Legion won their hardest battle until she gets home. assuming she's alive in the first place.

she giggles at Ruby's imitation at her] Thank you. You were really good, too! All of that time fighting monsters back home really paid off.

[redlikerose]

Totally! My uncle's the one who taught me how to use a scythe. It kinda runs in our family.

[Her sister's a huge combat nut too. They just seem to have knack for fighting and mobility. It's good though, these skills saved Ruby's life. ]

He's way better than I am. Did you learn how to fight on your own?

[unphase]

Really? It must be nice, being able to follow in your family's footsteps.

[says the girl who'd been all but disowned by her mother because of her choices]

Everyone in my world gets training in Lerdrit when they're around thirteen. It's a martial art that brings phasing into fighting. The rest of what I learned came from the Legion.

[redlikerose]

It is pretty nice. I wanna be reliable like them too someday.

[It's always been her dream to be strong like her family. Ruby's still a kid so it'll take a lot of work, but wow. Tinya's been to many places too! That's neat.]

You've been at it for a while now! That's soooo awesome. I gotta admire that.

[unphase]

I'm sure you will be. You did very well against that--that monster. [calling them "monsters" makes it easier for her to accept the fact that she just took a life.

and it was always her dream to follow her own path, not the one set before her by her mother. and she has been to many places, many worlds]

Well, not a long time exactly. I'm only fifteen, but I guess I've learned a lot the last two years.

[redlikerose]

That makes me officially older than you by a few weeks! I'm sixteen.

[Ruby nods to herself. They aren't too far apart in terms of age. It makes her happy.]

I would have never guessed that, actually. You still have lots of room to learn more tricks!

[unphase]

It's good to meet another teenager here. Most people seem to be in their twenties and forgot what it was like to be a teenager.

[it makes Tinya happy, too. she's hoping that they can be good friends]

I hope so! I've heard that there are a lot of people here with different fighting styles. I'd like to ask them about it.

[redlikerose]

There's too many old farts down here. They need to lighten up!

[She pats Tinya on the shoulder. Ruby's really lucky to find a good friend like her down in these parts. ]

That'd be good! I always enjoy hearing about peoples fighting and choice of weapon. It says a lot about them, really.

[unphase]

Some of them are nice, but the rest of them? Yeah, they need to lighten up. Or at least stop thinking about people our age as kids.

[she smiles happily at Ruby when she's patted on the shoulder. it's great to meet a girl near her age here]

Then you're going to be happy here. [with a laugh] Or at the very least, not miserable.

[redlikerose]

Seriously. We're mature enough to take care of ourselves!!

[Or so she thinks. Ruby sounds convinced it's true though. ]

That's great! I've had enough misery lately. I'll have plenty to do and I won't be bored.

[unphase]

Exactly. And it seems like you're in the same situation I was, where you had to deal with danger on a regular basis.

[Tinya thinks so. she had to face danger all the time in the Legion]

Enough misery? Was your home. . . not a good one?

[redlikerose]

There's a lot going on back where I'm from. I don't even know where to start! I'm being honest, it's a mess.

[Ruby frowns slightly. Just thinking about her place puts a damper on her mood for a second.]

Before this I got separated from my friends. We were really close too. It sucks to be away from people you like.

[unphase]

I'm sorry to hear that. It's--kind of a mess where I'm from, too.

[which is actually a huge understatement]

It does. I miss my friends in the Legion like crazy, but there's no telling how long we're going to be stuck here.

[redlikerose]

Soo....I hate to ask this but how long have you been here for?

[Ruby feels like she's asking something terribly insensitive so that's why she looks uncomfortable.]

Several months? Several years?

[She can only guess.]

[unphase]

[she grimaces slightly] Two months. Not very long, but it feels like a long time.

[especially as she's not even sure if she's alive or dead. that sort of thing tends to wear on your mind]

[redlikerose]

That's still a long time, geez. At least you aren't out here by yourself.

[There's plenty of people around by the looks of it.]

You ever feel lost? 'Cuz that's what I'm feeling a lot of right now.

[unphase]

I guess. I don't know anyone very well yet, though.

[so she's feeling alone in a crowd, which is worse than actual solitude]

...all the time. Unfortunately. I don't know when the feeling's going to be over.

[redlikerose]

I do feel a little better knowing that you're also like that.

[Even if they don't have a solution to it, they're not alone. It helps Ruby! ]
