Intro Log: Puddle Jumpers

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for September
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: September 10th-13th
Warnings: Fresh meat, lots of rain and angry ogres

If the rain on your face isn't enough to wake you up in the colosseum, maybe the thundering footsteps and- well, thunder- is. The first thing that you may notice is that it's incredibly wet around here, with winds that could knock you over if you aren't careful and thunder that brings with it a torrent of constant rainfall.

That's all fine though, because the gods saw fit to help you out on your way in and now everyone will be waking up wearing a rain coat! These coats are a little odd, and some of them are downright silly, but we trust that you'll make do. Of course, a few of the raincoats have additional sleeves, neck holes, and entirely too many buttons as well- but hey, it's the best we could do.

Wait, what was that about thundering footsteps? Oh right, as you're navigating your new fashion choices, there are some monsters afoot who will want nothing more than to grind you into a pulp and eat you- well, if you're organic, that is. If you're not organic, then they still want to grind you to a pulp, but maybe not so much the eating part.

Ogres are from many fantasy stories, but these in particular are from the Dragon Age series. With incredible strength and stamina and massive horns, fangs, and a bloodlust for violence, these monsters won't stop until everyone around them is a blood smear on the ground. They're also not too happy about this rainfall either, so be careful not to slip in the puddles as you run away from them!

Once you've splashed around a bit, feel free to run off into the stormy abyss of our islands. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[Tyki listens to what she has to say with a quiet sort of expression. It's hard to take in, but then again so is everything in this strange place. So she seems to know him? He can't say that he remembers her at all. But perhaps she met Joyd. Or one of the other incarnations he's lived as.

Either way, she's not human. And she doesn't trigger the hatefulness and conflict that he feels when he's near them. The brutal mix of love and hate that makes things interesting and wonderful and miserable is missing when he speaks to her and stands in her presence.

He's not going to lose the chance for more time with people that he can be somewhat neutral about. Not wanting to kill her instinctively is something kind of amazing for him. And rather confusing.]

I'm certain that I'd remember a lady as lovely as you. It's a pity that I don't. [Tyki really wants to know more.] What name did you know me as?

[He's always been so smooth. It's a lot, honestly, more than she was able to handle the first time and certainly more than she's able to handle now. It's been a long time since she came to this place, but she didn't get treated like some incredible lady back home. And even here, it makes the color rise to her cheeks as he says things like lovely, even if she knows he's just a charmer. Alphys looks away for a moment, trying to force down the red she knows is coloring her face, stammering out a reply.]

Uh-- Tyki? You said you name was Tyki. We only t-talked a few times, uhm, you knew a friend of mine, and so, it... yeah.

[And they danced at a fancy ball and he said all kinds of nice things and she died a little bit because it all felt like it was absolutely not real.]

It has been a pretty long time, uh, since I saw you last, so-- it's okay! If you don't remember. It happens to a lot of people.

[He is charming, another carefully shaped facet of his personalities used to make his life more interesting. It's just how he is, building whatever side of himself up he needs to to make things fun.

But fun aside, he really is charmed by her, far more than he expected to be. She isn't lovely by any stereotypical judgement from Tyki's world, but her actions are as fantastic and fragile and feminine as any court woman he's ever met. Tricia, his brother's wife, has a gentle and simple face. She's hardly a stunning thing. But her ladylike demeanor makes her beautiful. And it's a beauty that will outlast her peers, her sickly life will end young but Cyril will never forget her actions and mind. And his family will judge other humans by her for ages. His brother might not love his wife, she's more like the dog they adopted, just another part of the game. But she's a treasured part of it that really can't easily be replaced now. Another white dog can be found any day of the week, but Tricia Kamelot is unique.

Like Alphys is unique. Not a traditional belle, but one that will probably never be seen again. And in a way, Tyki understands Cyril's strange choice now, at least a little. A charming personality is far more appealing than beauty that fades away and dies.]

I thought you might have known someone else, that looked like me. I've got a family member with more than a passing resemblance. [It's entirely complicated. Then again, so is everything since arriving here.

He's honestly not sure what to make of the whole situation. And there's something frightening in the idea of it, he doesn't want to carelessly make contact with Joyd to find out. The idea of his memories disappearing or being altered is unappealing entirely. And he doesn't want to think about it.

So for now, he'll leave it. And focus on good company instead of something that actually scares him a little.]

Thank you for being so forgiving. I'm behaving like a common heel, and you're still so kind to me. I wish I had the memories we shared. [Another smile graces his face, so gentle and appealing.] Perhaps then, we can make a few new ones?

[She'd be endlessly flattered if he said that much to her. She's not used to being interesting, or fascinating, or charming; she wouldn't consider herself beautiful or someone who turns heads for the right reasons. She's short, and round, with weird spikes and a tail and strange buck teeth.

But he treated her like a princess the first time they met, too. She's never forgotten it. And her voice flutters as he speaks, a shuddering inhale as she tries to think of the proper thing to say.]

It's really, it's, n-no problem-- honestly! I don't hold it against you or, uh, or anything, it happens all the time.

[But she knows he means it, and that makes it somehow... even crazier. Because he's kind and smooth and it's?? To her?? For some reason??

Wild.]

It's, uh... nice to meet you again, I. Yeah. I'm Alphys. If I didn't say that? I have n-no idea if I said that.

[Alphys gives him a smile, showing some of the sharper teeth in the back of her mouth, even though it's possibly the least threatening thing for someone with a big teethy mouth.]

Alphys. I won't forget this time. [He honestly isn't sure if he'll forget or not. Or if he has any way to protect against his memories being altered. To make it worse, Joyd has been suspiciously quiet since his arrival here, and the fact that he's been here already once before makes him wonder if he has any real control over the situation. He hates it. It makes him feel angry and weak...

But that's something for another time. There's no use worrying about things when he has company to attend to. Charming, odd company with sharp teeth and a sweet demeanor. She's far more interesting to think about right now than fussy feelings about kidnapping and manipulation.]

Do you need an escort? The weather is dreadful, but I could keep us both dry and safe as we travel.

[It's strange, to have no time have passed for him, to have him not even remember, but for her reaction to be exactly the same. He smiles and offers polite gestures and is kind. It's nice. It's not something she knows how to handle, still, after all this time.]

Well, uh, I don't actually have to go s-super far-- I've been staying at my Lab since it's kind of hard to get between the islands. The city used to all be in one, so uh, suddenly my apartment went from being close to pretty far...

[Jeez, that likely sounds totally incomprehensible to someone who hasn't lived here. She'll probably have some explaining to do...]

You have a laboratory? What are you making there? Or is it more of a study?

[He really is curious about the fact that the city has apparently split, it makes no sense and enough sense to him all at once to make him almost desperate for knowledge about the incident. But he find science entirely and endlessly interesting, enough so that whatever it is she's doing in that lab means much more to him than a city that literally pulled itself apart.

He's not a very scholarly man. He was never formally educated. He loves a good book, even ones of scientific theory, but beyond that he just doesn't have the mind for it. He finds the work of scientists and alchemists beyond interesting. He knows some biology. Enough to kill a person in multiple creative ways. But it's just not where his talents lie.

So he'll enjoy the work of others, instead.] You know, it's rude of a man to ask so many questions of a lady. Especially right after becoming reacquainted.

[She blushes visibly, waving her hand his direction.]

Oh no, really, it's fine! I mean, I'm n-not really a fancy lady anyway, and uhm, society here is... kind of a mess, uh, anyway.

[Oh right, he asked a question, she should say something to that.]

But uh, right! My lab! It's mostly for study, I guess? I used to use it mostly to research the Door and try to get everyone, uh, h-home. And it's still some of that! But I've also been doing a lot of repairs lately for other robots in the city. There are some completely mechanical people the Door has brought in, and with it being so dangerous, they need help s-sometimes too.

[How charming! She's humble too. Tyki listens with interest, so she's not only a clever woman, but she's able to focus on the task at hand. He likes that.]

So you're working towards aiding our situation, then? If you need any information gathered for you, please feel free to ask. [He blinks, and then shakes his head. A look of something almost like embarrassment on his face.] But nothing too complicated of a task, I'm afraid. I'm hardly of a scientific mind and wouldn't want to set you back.

[Humble's one way to think about it. Mostly she's just depressed. And anxious. Which leads to downplaying a lot of accomplishments.]

It's okay! I, uh, a-appreciate you volunteering. Its not just me at the lab anyway, uhm, there's a lot of other people. It's not even... well, okay, it was just my lab, and then other people showed up. But I wasn't really doing anything with it before they did, so...

[So it all shakes out. She prefers sharing, anyway. Having her own lab was just paralyzingly big, considering what happened when she was solo back home. This, with all the activity and help, is so much nicer.]

So you graciously allowed them to stay, despite the boorish behavior. Again, you prove yourself far greater a lady than you give yourself credit for.

[If it was Tyki in the situation, it would have gotten unpleasant very quickly. While he tends to be easygoing on most accounts, he wouldn't be very happy with intruders. Even if he had more than enough room.

He thinks she's been taken advantage of, honestly.]

Oh no, it's-- it's not that bad! I had picked it up from a friend when, uhm, t-they left, but I wasn't really working in it, so when people wanted to use it, it was better than having it sit without use.

[She was just fiddling around, and now it's a thing. Not what she expected.]
