Event Log: Gifts from the Door, Monster Version

What: The event log for the monster version of the Gifts from the Door event
Where: All over the city
When: October 12th-17th
Warnings: Like, so many monsters

No monsters arrived with the newbies - great! One less thing to worry about. Except it never quite works out that way, does it? Maybe the Door was just delayed a little, because on the 12th, a few monsters start appearing. And then more. And then more. Where's the off switch?! Oh right, no one knows.

Some of these monsters you might recognize, some your best friend from another world might be very familiar with. Some might be creatures you've never imagined. But don't worry, they all have one thing in common - they'd all be happy to tear you to itty bitty pieces. Or eat your liver. Or consume your soul. Or just scare the shit out of you, that's fun too.

So lock your doors and stay inside, and hope nothing breaks in through the windows. Alternately, now's a great time to get your hero on and go out and smack some monsters around. It's great exercise, and there's nothing better for stress relief! Just avoid those big scary fangs.

Nah, zombies are kind of a new thing for me. I mean, they're in movies and stuff all the time, but they don't actually exist. Which is. Nice. Kinda missing that whole thing right now, if I'm being honest.

They're not usually a thing back home either, necromancy is super illegal. I've never seen one in person!

[ He's just chilling at the edge of the roof now, munching on pretzels as he watches the few remaining zombies milling around below and bumping into walls. ]

What's a movie, though?

[It's kind of decent entertainment, right? Just look at those undead dipshits down there, bumping into shit and making zombie noises. I mean, they were way cooler in the movies, but this is still pretty funny. Aaand speaking of movies,]

Oh, uh... pffff... Okay, I mean, you've seen plays, right? It's like someone putting on a play, only it's pictures on a screen instead of people on a stage.

Oh! Ohhhh, that makes sense. Kinda like a scrying crystal.

[ This is like watching a bunch of undead keystone cops! Angus passes the bag of pretzels over, and shakes his head. ]

Do you think this was a Door thing? It's not the right time of the month, and the monsters aren't supposed to be able to get past the entrance of the coliseum...

Sure, like a... That thing you said.

[Whatever it is, it sounds badass. Magic is so cool. What is also cool is the fact that Peter somehow hasn't lost his appetite despite the undead zombie stench. Time to go to town on a pretzel]

Either it's a Door thing, or the gods got bored. Those are about the best guesses I've got.

[ Hmm... Ango goes silent for a few seconds, tapping at his chin in thought. ]

... When you put it like that, it sounds more like the Door messing up. The turbo-liches feed off our emotions, right? They wouldn't actively try to kill us, but... actually, scratch that, they would absolutely try to scare the shit out of us.

[itsnotaonesie]

Turbo-liches? That's a new one. But yeah, from what I understand, they kind of need to keep us around. I don't see them coming out here and offing us themselves, but I can totally see them dropping a bunch of monsters on us and going "okay kids, have fun with that".

[hellosirs]

That's what Taako calls 'em. Liches are... they're sort of like ghosts made of magic, and they can use emotions to sort of keep themselves together. I'm not sure if that's what these guys are, but they seem pretty similar.

Okay.

So what I'm getting form this is that your world is terrifying, and also I miss tacos.

[hellosirs]

[ ... wait a minute. ]

What's a 'taco'?

What's a ta- oh my God, your world doesn't have tacos?

[This is one of the most tragic things Peter has ever heard in his life, it's simply unacceptable.]

Do you have tortillas? Because if you have tortillas this'll be a lot easier to explain.

[ With the apprehensive tone of someone who feels like he's about to fail a math test: ]

Um, that's... that's a big 'nope' on tortillas. I dunno what those are.

[D'awww poor little buddy it's okay!]

Oh! That's fine. They're um... Picture like, a really flat round bread. Sometimes they're like, floppy? But for tacos, they're folded in half and they're like hard, they're crunchy. People fill those with seasoned meat and vegetables and stuff, and uh. Boom, taco.

[hellosirs]

... That. That sounds really delicious, actually. No wonder you miss 'em. Maybe if we find a good replacement for the bread, we can convince Taako to make some!

[itsnotaonesie]

They're like, in my top five favorite foods, which is saying a lot because I'll eat basically anything. This guy like to cook? Because I wouldn't wanna bug him, y'know?

[hellosirs]

Oh, definitely! He's really into cooking, he used to be a celebrity chef. I think he'd like the idea of food that shares his name, especially if it's that good!

Celebrity chef, y'say? You have got to introduce me to this guy.

[hellosirs]

I will, promise! You might run into him first though, he's pretty easy to recognize. He's an elf in a big wizard hat.
