What: Fourth Wall Event!

The city is a little more... crowded than usual. Throughout the week, you may see a few more faces around, some familiar and some unfamiliar- you may even witness certain characters just popping in and out of existence as the Door flexes its uncertain power. Luckily, this seems to be the only effect of the Door's experimentation so far, but that's not to say that the worry ends here.
Some of you may find friends from home, others may find enemies, or just new allies or people you really don't get along with. Either way, it's time for a party as the gods scramble to put some sort of gathering together so that you can all take care of one another and the gods don't have to deal with another mass influx of people when they aren't ready for it. Aren't they nice?
So enjoy your music, your food, and the random assortments of items you may be able to find in the shops. The kindness won't last forever, but the gods are fairly certain that this explosion of new people is just temporary, so enjoy it while you can!
Due to the Door's meddling, some of the new people may enter the city already aware of their predicament. In order to cut down on some confusion, new visitors from the door may find that they're already aware of the conflict they're a part of, the city they're in, and have some vague idea of the gods they're surrounded by. They may even be aware that their stay here is temporary- still, there's no reason not to find shelter and food and a few allies to help you ease the way.► This log covers October 22nd-30th.

Shit, you must be a kenku huh? Got that little voicebox up in there. What's your name?
[She can probably write it if she can't say it. He'd imagine it would be smart for kenku parents to get someone to say their kid's name in their presence, so they can repeat it. Either that or she's gonna steal his voice forever. At least she's been gifted the word 'fucking', which is obviously vital.]

"Yes, I'm very sweet." [ She says it with confidence, like it's a well-known fact. She's also back to the lilting accented voice from before, thank you Jester! ]
"I am Kiri! I've never done this before!"
[ By 'this' she probably means 'waking up in a stranger's house covered in bedazzled clothing', but... yeah, a notepad and pencil would go a long way towards the communication barrier, here. ]
no subject
Kiri? Cool, cool. Alright, bird nerd. Can you write? You can just like, nod yes or no. Also, who gave you a knife, you're a baby.
[He's not gonna take it from her, but he is looking for some paper, crossing over to his desk area under his bed to find a notebook.]
no subject
"There’s lots of creatures around that could hurt."
[ She starts experimentally poking at some of the larger clothing piles with said knife as she speaks, like she's expecting some kind of bedazzled monster to leap out at them. ]
no subject
Oh, so it's like, protection stuff. I mean, that's cool. I guess people could eat you. Don't worry, the monsters in this place are basically nothing, like, chump change. Even you could take 'em on with your, uh. Knifery. Yeah.
no subject
"I killed people!"
[ Which, uh, probably isn't the most comforting thing to hear from a tiny bird girl with a knife, even if it's obvious that she picked up the phrase from someone else who apparently had a cheerful Australian accent. ]
no subject
(He will not do that. But he would take the knife at that point to avoid future stabbings.]
Oh I'm sure you did pumpkin, I'm sure you did.
[He does find some paper though, which he turns around to hand over next.]
There you go, fantasy birdo. Now you can use your voice. Kinda. You lookin' for anybody around here?
no subject
I don't know where my friends are, I just woke up here. We were staying at an inn. Do you know Jester, Beau, Nott, Caleb, Fjord, Yasha, or Molly?
[ And then, just in case that wasn't clear enough: ]
"Welcome to the Mighty Nein!"
no subject
Taako leans forward, squinting at the page to read the handwriting. Eugh... great, he has no idea who any of those people are. Well, he thinks he talked to someone almost named Molly once, but he hasn't seen him in a while. Usually means that's done and done.
Man, now he has to be responsible for this water bottle. Shit.]
Uhhhh, sorry kid, don't think they're around here. Or if so I haven't seen 'em. It's uh, kind of a thing? People get pulled in from all over and you might not know where they are. Uh... good news, though! You'll probably go home. Like, really soon.
[He has no idea if this is true, he just has no qualms about lying to children.]
no subject
That definitely wasn't the answer Kiri was hoping for, though. She kind of deflates with a sad little coo, and it takes a few moments for her to scribble out another note for him. ]
Can I stay here until I go back?
no subject
Uhhh... sure, kid. Actually, uh, I have another kid around you could hang out with. He's got books and stuff. Can you read? I bet you can read.
[He's about to make this Not A Taako Problem.]
no subject
(Angus will be less than thrilled at the sudden arrival of a new roomie who carries a knife and happily declares that she's killed people, but that's a problem for another day, and it won't be Taako's!
... At least, until he has two sets of kids following him around and chirping "Hello sir!" while quoting the Caleb Cleveland books at length.) ]
"Cool, cool. Alright, bird nerd!" [ she says, in his New Elfington accent. ] "I bet you can read!"
no subject
He will regret this when Angus starts emulating her just to annoy him. This is gonna be a long week.
But for now, his own voice comes back at him and Taako giggles, reaching down and ruffling the feathers on her head.]
See, there y'go, you've already gotten it. C'mon, bird nerd, I got nerd 2.0 for ya.
[He starts heading for the door, calling for Angus as he goes.]
Hey! Ango! I have a present for you! It's gonna be great!
LOGGED INTO THE WRONG ACCOUNT, BUT THIS WORKS TOO
Their eyes meet. Angus looks curious, if slightly baffled, and Kiri's wide-eyed expression is almost unreadable until she jabs her knife in Ango's direction and happily exclaims: ] "Nerd two-point-oh!"
[ Angus freezes up, glances between the tiny knife-wielding kenku and the grinning elf, and gives Taako a look that very clearly says 'Sir, what the fuck??' ]
IM LAUGHING GOOD GOD
Heeeey, Ango McDango. So among all of our new friends that dropped in here, we uh, we picked up a bird. This is Kiri, she kills people, or so she tells me. And now she's your new friend slash responsibility!
[He isn't even sugarcoating this. It's just Time To Die, Angus.]
So uh, be a dear and make sure she doesn't kill anybody, hm? That'd be fantastic, pumpkin, thank you!
THE WORST!!
S-Sir! How am I supposed to... to curb somebody's murderous impulses?! I don't--
[ And then Kiri chimes in with an upbeat "Don't stab humans, don't eat humans, okay?" in that lilting accent from before, which is somehow both more and less worrying than before. At least she tucks the knife back into her cloak! ]
:^)
Just keep her busy! Look--
[He readdresses Kiri, putting a hand on her head.]
No stabbing Angus, alright? He's my friend. Make sure he doesn't get hurt and deffo don't hurt him, ok? Just do what he says. He'll give you like, puzzles and stuff.
[Taako looks up to Angus, twisting his wrist in a way that suggests he thinks Angus should produce a puzzle from somewhere. Right now. Figure it out, Angus!]
probably just about wrapped, yeah?
... That said, he is holding a copy of Caleb Cleveland: Kid Cop! The Mystery of the Missing Mansion in one hand. Sometimes the stereotypes are true, and YA mystery novels are basically just puzzles in book form. He hesitates for a few seconds before holding it out at arms length, like he's expecting Kiri to snatch it away.
Kiri trills and gives Taako a firm nod. No stabbing, no killing, no eating humans! She's got this! And by this, she means the book being offered to her! She flips through the pages, blinks at Angus, and pipes up with "Murderous impulses!" in his boy detective voice, which is either her summarizing the entire plot of the book, or just Kiri being Kiri. ]
I'll, uh... I'll do my best, sir?
"I'll do my best, sir?"
[ Yeah, they'll get along just fine. Taako just has to deal with hearing Angus in stereo, now. ]
yaaa wrapped!
Faaaantastic. See you at dinner then!
[And then he about faces and just goes right back into his room. Parenting duties: officially evaded.]
