Intro Log: Better Off Dead

What: The intro log for November
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.

Good morning and welcome to Hadriel! The forecast is cloudy with a chance of cold rain, and the weather is a bit too chilly for your tastes. That's alright though- you've got bigger things to worry about. Like the fact that you're waking up alone on the ground of what looks like a colosseum, and that you're surrounded by scattered jewelry. These various pendants, brooches, and chokers all feel- fleshy and slightly warm to the touch, though they'll cool off and firm up the longer you might be holding them.

But what kind of sick and twisted person would do something like this?

Well, the same kind of person who would apparently throw you in here with not only messed-up body jewelry, but also messed-up body monsters. You may hear them approach, thumping on the ground and growling as they come closer to you... but there's not much to be afraid of, really.

The monsters that surround you this month are grossly deformed, appearing as if someone tried to inexpertly combine multiple monsters together to make them more fearsome- the head of a hellhound is too big and it can't lift it, so it drags along the ground, the bear has too many legs to walk properly and falls on itself, improperly-spliced chimeras have dead heads that loll lifelessly about their necks- so on and so forth. It may be a better idea to put these creatures out of your misery before you go- if you're able to, that is.

But at least you can find your freedom relatively easily- if you could 'living in Hadriel' as freedom, I suppose. Once you escape from the colosseum, you can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

That's the way of it, isn't it? There's nothing quite like home. I'd imagine Chase would feel the same, were we to be separated.

[Chase barks in agreement]

I hadn't really had a home for some time.

[Or ever really, being a Bright Shiner. They had made a stand on the planet where she had come from, but it isn't where they had come from.]

But my mistress has her own story now.

[theladyofhighever]

Oh? I'm sorry to hear that.

[she knows that she'll be making her home in Denerim with Alistair, but part of her will always miss Highever]

Your mistress? Who might she be?

[standformyself]

[She has no qualms, having given up most of herself in the Beginning. There are gaps, anyway, times when she was dormant.]

Lirael. She will have a golden hand in the future, and be known as that.

[theladyofhighever]

[being dormant. that sounds like something to be feared. like being trapped in the life of a Warden, endlessly fighting darkspawn]

A golden hand? Is that magic?

[standformyself]

It will be.

[As it hasn't happened yet by the Dog's counting.]

[theladyofhighever]

It will be? [she cocks her head to once side slightly] It's not happened yet?

[standformyself]

[A little wag of her tail.]

No yet, no. And it will take some fine tuning.

[theladyofhighever]

[awwww!]

Magic frequently takes practice to perfect. Though, you know of her. Does she know of you?

[standformyself]

She sees the past, not the future.

[theladyofhighever]

[a small frown creases between her brows] How is seeing the past useful?

[standformyself]

There are many things that are lost or forgotten over time.

[theladyofhighever]

I. . . suppose you're right. It would have been useful to know what previous Grey Wardens faced during a Blight.

[standformyself]

It is not the solution to everything, but her skill did help but a great threat back to rest.

[theladyofhighever]

[she smiles] There is no solution to everything. Would that there were. I'm glad to hear that her abilities were able to help.

[standformyself]

Oh... I don't know. A good scratch behind my ears is always a good solution.

[theladyofhighever]

[she continues smiling] Oh? Then, may I...? [she reaches out to scratch between his ears but stops short of doing so without permission]

[standformyself]

[See that tail? That tail is waggling enough to wiggle her rear as well.]

Behind the left first, if you don't mind.

[...so cute!

she reaches down with a smile to scratch behind the Dog's left ear]

Is this good?

[standformyself]

[Given that she is leaning in to the touch, eyes half closed, it is clear that the Dog does enjoy it.]

Very- a little to the side though.

[theladyofhighever]

[and Chance is jealous, he leans in against Mariane's other side, demanding scratches in his own way. she puts her other hand to work on her own mabari while she moves her hand in accordance to the Dog's wishes]

Is this better?

And not to worry, Chance, I have plenty of time for you both.

[standformyself]

Very much so.

[Although the Dog is a ham and will work hours out of her, if she can get away with it. It does feel like though, far better than scratching herself. Thankfully people here seem to enjoy giving pets and pats and scraps of food.]

Change is lucky to have you, and no doubt vice versa as well.

[theladyofhighever]

Good, I'm glad to hear it.

[she's used to one particular dog who's a sucker for attention and affection. adding another will be no great strain]

Yes, I owe him my life many, many times over.

[standformyself]

A very good match then, indeed.

[Humming that, as she is quite content now to just let her scratch.]

[theladyofhighever]

Yes. [a pause] None expected me to get a Mabari. We'd went to the breeder looking to get my elder brother Fergus one and instead, I was chosen.

[and scratch she does, paying attention to what seems to be the preferred spots]
