People were gone, Gowther was gone and everything Atem used to remember of this place, gone as well. Not that Atem actually ever noticed that Gowther had never been in this place before the influx of people.
Now, that might an exaggeration, he remembers people, but not all of them, he's not sure who knows him or not anymore. It turns out it was probably not the so called gods messing with his head, but it probably didn't matter now, did it? It's like Kaiba would say, 'Just ignore it and crush it under the weight of your future', literally... He spent so much time trying to get his memories before coming here, it sure doesn't feel like something he wants to do here as well. He knows himself, he knows Kaiba, and others, and they know him. That should be enough.
He cannot help but wonder, who else did he forget? So far he hadn't found many who claimed to know him, maybe he shouldn't worry that much.
But as much as he wants to move on, he finds himself staring at people's faces, wondering if he's met them before or not. Either you may feel someone watching from where you're sitting down at the Speakeasy, and when you turn at the counter, there he is, this scrawny young man you might or not talked to before looking at your face as if it had something on it. Maybe you're just passing by as he's sitting down at the sidewalk or just as he passes by you, stealing glances from under his umbrella—were it a rainy day—or just as you're trying to find a new pair of pants at the stores, there is this pair of amaranthine bright eyes staring curiously, maybe a little worriedly even..
What do?
( ooc: A gentle reminder Atem was given a hard reset during the fourth wall event, which means he's forgotten most of the people he's met in Hadriel. Send me a PM if you wanna plot around that, otherwise please assume a clean start with your character. )

「After how things went down with the first tree he grew, Atem has been taking things a little more calmly, after all, he doesn't want to pass out again from using too much energy to turn a little seed into a full grown tree, if anything he's trying to make them grow to his knee or so. And that's what he's doing at the moment, flattening the dirt around a recently planted seed, as much as he possibly can. Then he can be seen drawing some circles and markings around it, it's not that easy to make the glyphs as perfect as he wished he could, but he keeps on trying. 」
There must be an easier way...
「He mutters under his breath.」

「Just as Carlisle had cut the communication, Atem hurried down to the piers, jumped on a goddamned boat and hurried towards the North Island as fast as the winds allowed him to. It was amazing how good he had become at this sailing thing after a while, still, dreaded it—the sea was not his element, it was so wet—but not even this time he cared to get his shoes and pants wet if it meant to get to his mentor as soon as possible.
Finally, he knocks on that familiar door, perhaps a bit more obnoxiously than he should.」
Carlisle! It's me! Open up!
「He sounds really excited at least!」

「Atem did promise he'd help beautify whatever little house Sal decided to build for his little new friend. He's been practicing in fact! Trying to build something more spacious and fireproof for his fiery salamander. Meanwhile, he waits for his friend to arrive as he writes some notes in his notebook, anything that comes to his mind that could potentially help with creating new things, or just transmuting them into something else.」

「Still a little unsure of what the future will bring them, Atem decides to act on it anyway, he could use a new jacket, the one he's got, even if it's from home, has seen better days. He remembers being at the sewing shop before, but everything aside of that comes as a blur to him, he pokes his head into it, expecting some kind of magic to happen and suddenly remembering everything.
He doesn't.」
Hello?
「Is anyone there?」

Hello?

she's sitting in a corner booth, minding her own business, when she feels eyes on her. at first, she tries to ignore it. but as the feeling continues, she looks up to see Atem staring at her.
so, she waves him over. she hasn't seen him in a while, might as well hang out a little. right?]
no subject
What was her name...
Damn.
He waves back at her and approaches to her seat.」
Hey, want a drink?
no subject
Sure, I'd love one. Whiskey sour, please.
no subject
Giving her a quick nod he goes get her drink. At least he hasn't forgotten how to make those, it would certainly be a pain to have to relearn them again. It doesn't take him too long for him to leave the glass neatly on her table.」
Anything else you need?
「He's probably being too polite, huh.」
no subject
she grins at him as he brings her the drink, and gestures at the seat across from her in the booth]
Nope. Well, unless you count your company.
no subject
「It kinda seems it's been a while regardless.」

「He says as he fishes his deck out of his duelist belt. He could probably show her the basics, see if she's interested at all, maybe help her make a deck with the cards he had found the last time. The moment he spreads the cards in his hand however, his eyes fall upon his most faithful. His Egyptian God cards, whose essence had been somehow transferred to these small cardboard cards, He always keeps them close with him, but he wonders if maybe he should let them rest too.」
I don't suppose I ever told you why I'm so into it, did I?
no subject
[she watches curiously as he gets his deck of cards out, fanning them out in his hand. she notices his gaze turn solemn as he stares at a particular set of cards, one she can't see from where she's sitting in the booth, but she can't help being curious about what they are]
...no, you hadn't. Is it okay if I ask why?
no subject
I don't think I knew you back then when I was able to summon them into the real world. 「He cannot remember if she was there before. During their fight with the Null, he risked himself out there, and in rare occasions they could see a red dragon with him, it was tiring though.」 Um, sorry I'm started wrong. These actually hold the spirits of Egyptian Gods, the same ones I used to summon back home, so you could say we have a bit of history together. Destiny found a way to reunite us after a few millennia, I guess that's why I'm so into it.
no subject
No, I don't think you did. I'd remember something like that. [during the fight with the Null, George pressed herself to the absolute limits of her Reaper metabolism and endurance, going two weeks without food or sleep to be there for the Clinic.
and she needs a moment. sorry]
They hold the spirits of Egyptian Gods? Seriously? Holy shit! Yeah, I guess you'd have a history together. Explains why you're so into it, too.
no subject
「It's probably both a blessing and a curse, he misses them so even if they are there.」
Osiris 「He points at the red one.」 can be a little clingy though.「Look who is talking.」 Ra, 「The yellow.」 is prideful, he gets offended easily, and Obelisk 「Yes, that's a God for him, that blue guy.」 is quite the warrior, incredibly loyal.
「He seems a little nostalgic, he doesn't get to show these cards to other people so easily and doesn't get to talk about them so often either.」
no subject
[George Lass' famous lack of tact strikes again. she's getting better though, really!
she inspects the red card. looks cool. they all do] Nothing wrong with clingy. It's like a cat that just wants to sit on your lap. And I better not say anything to Ra. Just to be on the safe side. And Obelisk sounds like a good God to have on your side.
[and she sounds impressed. she'd never imagined that such a thing was possible, Egyptian Gods in the form of playing cards]
no subject
I also have this little buddy with me. 「And he pulls out a card with the weakest monster there possibly might exist in the Duel Monster universe.」 Kuriboh. He's not a god but has been with me ever since too.
「He leans back on his seat.」
And, I need a lot of magic and a way to channel them into the real world, I used to be able to do it because I managed to get my hands on an ancient item from home. But kind of lost it. 「Kind of, yeah.」 For now they are just... Cards.
「The coolest cards tho.」
no subject
[she looks at the Kuriboh card] Oh, that's cute. Like a puffball with claws. What does that one do?
[she has her elbows propped up on the booth's table, cupping her face in her hands as she looks the cards over]
Oh. That sucks. But the whole "lot of magic" thing sounds exhausting. And from the way you talk about 'em, they're not just cards.
no subject
「He gives a little chuckle at the memory. Anyway...」
It was exhausting. 「There is no need to tell her how they were linked to his soul energy, is there? That'd be probably worrisome. But she's right, they are not just cards. He's not gonna drag her into this sudden melancholic place he's found himself in, though, so he decides to change the subject a little.」
... You have petted normal sized cat, right?
no subject
Well. Let's hope you don't have to go there again. Maybe we'll get lucky? [there's an edge of hope in her voice. she would love to think that the Null will never find them again, but she's a realist. she knows that they will and it will be even worse than the first time]
Of course I have. Used to have one, even. Named Sylvester, which was a pretty bad idea given that I also had a bird named Tweety.
no subject
Yeah. 「Maybe! He can only hope, however, but not even him is as jaded as others think he is, there is an impending fight to be fought and their chances are low.」
... Why are those names familiar? 「He should probably know them, but you see, Japan is not big on cartoons, anime on the other half...」
(cw: pet death)
and she's far more jaded than people give her credit for. ever since word came of those Null found in the ocean, she's been bracing herself for the worst and paying even more attention to her medical studies]
Well, there were these cartoons with a cat named Sylvester and a bird named Tweety. Sylvester always wanted to eat Tweety, but Tweety kept owning his ass. But in George's real life, Sylvester succeeded in eating Tweety and then kind of. . . threw up and choked to death on the bones.
no subject
「He's sympathetic though. Poor thing.」
You know, back in the day when a cat died, its owner would shave their eyebrows in grief.
「Random fact or whatever.」
no subject
I was a little young for that. My parents barely let me mess with safety scissors.
[tiny George totally would've went for it. if only to annoy her parents]
no subject
「Weird ancients, you know.」
Anyway, let's begin, shall we?
no subject
[she mainly read up on Greek and Roman mythology, not Egyptian]
Ready when you are.
no subject
「She probably isn't anymore though!
But he gives her a nod and a smile and begins explaining to her the rules of the game, the point of the game itself and the basics. How she always needs to read the small print to know what to do. How all these things combined could create a deck. He goes on with how one would need to come up with an strategy and probably even a theme for their deck, and how some would work better against others. Then he gives her examples with the cards he's got.」
But the most important part, is to believe in your cards, they'll trust you in return and lead you to victory. 「Easy, right?」
no subject
[she listens carefully to the explanation, nodding at the important parts. she wishes she had a notebook to be keeping notes because this sounds very involved. but, doable. she gives herself credit for being able to do a lot more than she used to, at least here]
Believe in my cards. I can do that. [and she can. used to be, she didn't believe in anything]
