On May 3rd, you may wake up and notice that something is different about the cave. Are you sure it's the daytime? Maybe you didn't sleep long enough, because it still seems pretty dark outside. Or, of course, the gods are messing with the lights again.
This time, however, it seems like it's actually a good thing. Sometime around the afternoon, some smaller lights begin to appear around the city, trickling in from Delight's temple and flickering on and off. These fireflies are brighter than what you might be used to, but being illuminated by their light will mysteriously allow a small surge of joy to rumble through you.
By May 4th, the shops are stocked with large mason jars, and you can start distributing them and using them to catch these fireflies as you wish. They're most concentrated in and around Delight's temple, but by now, the delight-erflies are pretty fairly spread throughout the city.
Be careful (or don't) of how many you catch! 1-3 fireflies in a jar will be enough to give you a mild emotional boost, at 4-6 you might be able to realize that you're definitely happier than you used to be, at 7-10, you can definitely tell that something is making you more cheerful, warm and happy. Beyond 10 fireflies, the additional effect gets smaller the more fireflies you capture, but it will still continue to build until you may just spend the next few days wrapped around your firefly jar in a pleasantly drugged stupor.
Just, uh... don't forget to eat.► This log covers May 3rd-May 9th.

She wonders about him. About what normally goes on in his head. She's come across plenty of 'crazy' in her many years and never really thought about what brought them to that point. But she wonders this with Krieg. He's calm now. It seems like can think straight-ish. It must be great for him to breathe for once instead of fight whatever goes on in there.
"You know... You don't have to be upset about what happened anymore. We can be friends now too, if you want."
no subject
"We broke you up," he mutters guiltily, unable to meet her eyes. "Bled you dry."
He looks down at himself, traces a line down his sternum. Shuts his eyes and tips his head back, arms out like he's about to throw himself to the wolves.
"Free hits on the house?"

She considers it, deciding that she doesn't need to do it at all. Except he may respect her if she accepts the offer. Honor her, even. She's sure from whatever angle he hits him, it'll hit hard enough. But she sits up anyway. When she turns to face him, she positions herself over him.
And it's a meaningful hook to the left rib, symbolically where he had cut through her. Not enough to break them; He's too thick for that. Definitely enough to knock the wind out of him and leave a decent bruise for a good couple of days. Maybe a week or two.
She can't help but to giggle. She's kneeling over him. Just punched him in the rib. Fireflies all around them in glass jars. It's a little funny.

"A good tingler for the ripper!" he exclaims happily, flat on his back. Pain is never an insurmountable obstacle for someone like him. Pain just feeds into everything he thinks and fuels him, makes him larger and stronger.
Then she's laughing, and before he can track the line of that logic, he's laughing too, not caring that there's a bruise on him that aches a little bit with each deep, hearty chuckle.

It hits her that this would never happen in the City. As similar as they are, she realizes that Hadriel is a different kind of dangerous. Everything is a game for the gods who run the show; A game best played with friends. The voice in her head, the one that tells her when something is wrong, tells her that she needs to be vigilant at any moment. The warmth in her chest feeding off the fireflies in their many jars makes it feel significantly less important.
"Friends now?"
no subject
He grins under his mask, realizes that isn't terribly obvious to anyone who can't see beneath his mask, and shoots her a lazy thumbs-up. That means good, right?
"Good, good murder-pals!" he affirms.

"You did give me a pretty awesome scar—"
Oh, she's sitting up and. Yep. There it is. Exposed skin of the nicely healed, gnarly scar stretching from her side almost across her stomach.
"—see?"
She's visibly proud of his permanent gift from him to her. A symbol of friendship. Like when people get matching tattoos, right? Though she has one of those too; The ears of her bakini-line rabbit poking up from beneath the fabric. But scars are definitely more badass. She only has one that's worse than this.
no subject
"Marks of badassitude," he agrees. A made-up word, undoubtedly, but one that Mr. Torgue himself endorsed, so it's one that Krieg will happily flaunt at every opportunity.
no subject
As she releases the fabric over the scar, she finishes her laugh with a sigh and falls flat back onto the ground.
"My other one is not a mark of badassitude," She doesn't mean to kill the good vibes, murder-pal. But she's thinking about it now.
"It's way worse..."
no subject
But there's a shift in tone here, and Krieg might not always be the most hyper-aware of such things - he's essentially blind to subtlety in all its shapes and forms - but the fireflies have warmed his soul and cooled his temper, and his friend seems sad.
no subject
"I did. I made a mistake."
Again she sits up, this time she turns her back to him. She reaches over, far down her shoulder and pulls the material all the way up her back. All at once her entire shoulder blade, up and over onto her collar bone is covered by a large, oblong shaped scar. This also exposes several of the small round ports embedded into her skin along her spine up the base of her neck underneath her hair.
"I wasn't paying attention and a creature attacked me. It started to paralyze me. Then I couldn't move. It almost killed me."
It wasn't entirely her fault. She knew that the situation they were in was almost impossible; There was a higher chance that it was going to happen than it not happening. And even though she lived, it constantly reminds her of the dangers waiting for her back in the City.

"You must've packed a wallop for that bootlicker!" That is to say, she must have been incredibly strong to fight against something so profoundly damaging as paralysis. He's been there, in times he doesn't like to think about and therefore doesn't, and it's not his big fravorite.

Her fist makes a solid connection with his arm as she turns to him.
"That means I could probably beat your ass, so better not make me mad!"
Correction, they could probably beat each other's asses almost equally.
no subject
"Made the pain so good, though!" But his voice is warm as he says it. Pain is pretty much a given in his line of work and general lifestyle.
No hard feelings, honestly. He's glad she could hold her own, and if he were not so overcome with literal rage at the time, he would've respected her far more for pounding him to a pulp. That's a good quality in a friend! His friends have to be good at standing up against him, in case anything goes wrong and he goes bad - it happens more often than you'd think.
no subject
"Sounds like you're gonna do it on purpose now," With a big smile as she teases a few lighter punches.
"We can fight anytime you want. Promise."
Yeah. One of these days she'll have to let him know she doesn't feel pain like he does. The sentiment of receiving pain is lost on her. She's starting to understand what it means to him though. That's what's important.
no subject
He perks up at that. He and his friends have done plenty of duels for fun, and no one got hurt, and he got to do some quality violence!
"Anytime, anytime!" he agrees happily. "Just say the word, sisterly!"
His nicknames, however, may need some work.
no subject
Cibo hasn't fought someone just for fun before. And even if they do get a little banged up, who cares? When she looks back on their first encounter, it could have been a lot worse than it was.
And what do you mean. Krieg's nicknames are on point.
"Now?"
Being high on fireflies is the best time to decide this.
no subject
"'ll have a hell of a backache," says Krieg, not sounding upset by this in the slightest. His axe...oh. His axe is still on the ground. Well, whatever. He can leave it there, that's all right! He can spar with his hands and feet, and they can try and kill each other like civilized people.
no subject
"At least we'll sleep really well..." A mumble as she makes it to her feet.
Sleep actually doesn't sound too bad with how freaking relaxed she feels. So relaxed that trying to psych herself up for a fight she knows isn't life-threatening is a challenge by itself. The adrenaline doesn't flow quite right. She actually thinks taking a hit will help her get going.
Bring it on, bud.

And misses.
And swings again.
And misses again.
His third swing actually manages to connect with some accuracy, but there's absolutely no punch behind it - he simply taps her lightly on the shoulder. He might as well be asleep with how utterly relaxed he is. But he tries his best to make that pathetic attempt work by announcing, happily:
"Boop!"
