Event Log: A Jar Full of Sunshine

Who: Everyone!
What: The Jar Full of Sunshine event
Where: Throughout the city
When: May 3rd-May 9th
Warnings: Fireflies as a conduit for drug use. Annoyingly catchy songs.

On May 3rd, you may wake up and notice that something is different about the cave. Are you sure it's the daytime? Maybe you didn't sleep long enough, because it still seems pretty dark outside. Or, of course, the gods are messing with the lights again.

This time, however, it seems like it's actually a good thing. Sometime around the afternoon, some smaller lights begin to appear around the city, trickling in from Delight's temple and flickering on and off. These fireflies are brighter than what you might be used to, but being illuminated by their light will mysteriously allow a small surge of joy to rumble through you.

By May 4th, the shops are stocked with large mason jars, and you can start distributing them and using them to catch these fireflies as you wish. They're most concentrated in and around Delight's temple, but by now, the delight-erflies are pretty fairly spread throughout the city.

Be careful (or don't) of how many you catch! 1-3 fireflies in a jar will be enough to give you a mild emotional boost, at 4-6 you might be able to realize that you're definitely happier than you used to be, at 7-10, you can definitely tell that something is making you more cheerful, warm and happy. Beyond 10 fireflies, the additional effect gets smaller the more fireflies you capture, but it will still continue to build until you may just spend the next few days wrapped around your firefly jar in a pleasantly drugged stupor.

Just, uh... don't forget to eat.

Well- um.

[He wants to explain that while, yes, he did technically stab Gren in the heart with an injector, he also did it to help him. It's not his fault that Gren almost died, and while there's a rush of relief that he's okay, now Rhys has to deal with the aftermath of, uh. Actually saving him.

He rubs awkwardly at the back of his neck and nods.]

Yeah. I saw it in a movie, where you know- someone overdoses and someone else stabs them with a thingie and saves them. [He shrugs.] I thought it would work here.

[There is so much wrong with the explanation that comes out of Rhys' mouth that Gren's not really sure where to start. First off, he did something that he saw in a fucking movie once, because everyone knows those are so accurate with their medical knowledge, and secondly, he called it a thingie. You don't stab people in the heart with thingies, you just don't.]

You're a fuckin' idiot, but I'm gonna give you a pass because I ain't fuckin' dead right now.

[He reaches over for his bottle of Jack on the nightstand and takes a pull straight from the bottle. He almost died, okay, he deserves this alcohol.]

Well, thanks.

[He's come to his senses a little now, after the stark realization that he did just sort of save Gren's life- which makes him pretty awesome, all things considered. That is, until Gren starts drinking again, and Rhys steps forward, a strange mixture of surprised and offended.]

Hey man, you nearly OD'd. Take it easy.

Why the fuck do you think I'm drinking it?

[Call it a constitutional or something, he needs a little whiskey to steady his recently nearly deceased nerves. Or he's just a fucking alcoholic and this is what he does when things are stressful. Take your pick, it's probably all the same.]

What, a guy almost fuckin' dies and he can't have a fuckin' drink after? Shit, Rhys.

Well... I mean, your drinking is what almost just killed you.

[You know, just being reasonable. Rhys glances about the room around them, lips pursed at the multitude of fireflies still lingering.]

-that and the fireflies, I guess.

That wasn't fuckin' alcohol poisoning.

[He would know, he's done it a couple of times before. It takes a lot of liquor to get Gren into the danger zone, and he would've had to drink more than that whole bottle of Jack to get close to it.]

I didn't fuckin' drink enough. [He snorts and takes another pull.] Who'd've thought you could OD on fuckin' bugs?

[He picks up one of the jars and passes it over to Rhys. The whole room is still heavy with the good vibrations or what the fuck ever that these things put out, and clearly he had too goddamn many.]

Here, fuckin' take some of this shit.

I'm sure it didn't help, either.

[FRANKLY. But Rhys nods and accepts a jar, at least so he can get it out of Gren's room- but when he touches it, he finds himself distracted by the light inside and the increase of the intensity of the warm glow radiating through him. It's nice... and Rhys smiles a little stupidly, lifting the jar to look inside.]

...thanks. [He's plenty happy now- happy enough to have forgotten that Gren almost just died from this very thing. Rhys already has a firefly or two in his room, but he's more than happy to bring this jar back there to keep them company.

Still, he at least remember's Gren's recent almost-death enough to check in with him before leaving with the spoils of his lifesaving act.]

You okay?
